I used a 470 ohm, 1/2 watt resistor off Amazon. Not needed when factory ECU is used because the alternator output is controlled by the ecu in factory applications.

You should make a video about that air intake setup.

Yeah? My buddy found that for me. Is from a corvette. Only way we could get the offset above the Radiator. Thanks for noticing!

Im running a painless harness that came with the resistors. I also have a 5.3 out of a 04 yukon. Im not running the stock computer that came with the 5.3 so what wire do i need to run the resistor on? The painless harness has a red regulator power wire and a white excitor power wire. Thanks

The white exciter wire is the one.

Also can you do a video of how much out put is at the end of the plug with the resistor on reasons im asking i bought a holly alternator wire with the resistor and i connected to a hotkey 12v but im still getting 12 volts at the end of the plug ? Shouldn't that be less if i have a resistor on it

1. Alternator got hot, quit charging, and melted connectors. 2. I'm not a wiring genius, but here is the short answer based on my knowledge. It will still be 12vs, but lower amps will be pulling from battery/alternator. It's like putting your thumb over the water hose vs getting a bigger water hose. Volume vs pressure. It's not the voltage(volume/hose size) but the amp draw(thumb/pressure). The stock ecm monitors the amp pull and adjusts the alternator output up and down. Without the stock setup, the alternator gets a full power signal and runs at maximum load. The resistor turns down that load and maintains a lower output rate. Hope this helps. Mine is still working great.

What if I have 5v at that one wire with the key OFF

The 5v should be on a small exciter wire, mine was white. The larger red wire goes to the battery and is hot at all times. O e-wire alternator serups do not usually require the resistor. Also, stock ecu harnesses do not need the resistor.

,👍dose the red to go to the hot Brown need s the resistor ?

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I hate when people do that. Shouldn't be hot wire except wirh key on. Mine in the holley harness was white. I've seen small red, too.

When i wire my alternator straight to a12v wire it puts out 13.1 amps. But when i put in the 470 1/watt resistor it only puts out 11.4 to 11.9? Do you thank its a week alternator?

Possibly. Are u using stock wiring and/or ecu? The stock stuff adjusts the voltage and does not need the resistor. It needs to put out over 13 and under 15.

Mine quit working completely after 500 miles and was purring out almost 15 v all the rime. I researched to see what might be going on and found this info. It's worked fine for 2 yrs.

so if i’m using the stock harness and ecm and there’s 2 wires pinned on the 2 middle connector going to the ecm i’ll be fine running that ?

Yep. Stock ecm takes care of it!

What pisses me off is the Holley terminator kit cost me 3,000 and doesn’t have this simple harness included. The holy kit is a joke it will nickel and dime you to death
