I have re soldered my board which has brought it back to life. However I now get a parking brake fault. Is that something that would likely just need resetting or is it likely to be a solder issue

I have not had to replace those on this unit yet, so I am not sure.

Can you tell us more about this raking tool?

It's a dental tool used by dentists. You don't have to use that one specifically but I like it because it's got a good toughness/flexibility ratio. I got it as a part of a pack, I don't remember where anymore. I use it to rake the pins essentially to be 100% sure all of them are making proper contact with the PCB. Sometimes even after 10 years of soldering you can look at a joint, think it looks good, rake it, and realize it's not properly bonded. It's always a good idea to rake pins after a job to be 100% sure.

@@NicksElectronicRepair I see, so the point of the tool is to ensure proper bonding between the pins and the pads. How can you tell though? Does it make a sound? Or is it haptic feedback?

physically I am pushing them. If the pins move and get bent then I know it wasn't soldered correctly.
