I'm not sure if you can go to Mae Jo University in time right now ( around 20 Kms from downtown ) It is the best place for sky lantern in Chiang Mai or even in Thailand.

The lantern festival is the new festival called Ye Ping Thirty years ago when I moved here there was no lanterns but think what you will...
