    Thanks for posting all of these organs videos. PLEASE leave them up even if the organ sells, many of these organs have absolutely no representation on KZread, much less the rest of the web. It's important to keep a good archive of these great organs in action. We really need a good video demo of a WURLITZER electrostatic KEYED-REED 1946-1953 where the player is playing staccato! These guys insist on never 'striking' a key and it drives me nuts watching their fingers never leaving the keyboard as to 'attack' the note. I posted a video of my free-reed electrostatic Wurlitzer 4410- paulj0557 [ on my sons log-in btw]. Another great organ that doesn't get totally represented for all it is made of is the Hammond X66. My X66 is a BEAST!! Blows away the Hammond Elegante I owned previously to it. The X66 is very professional sounding, not plastic like the late 70's LSI models tended to sound like. Organs after around 1971 were hit and miss because of the IC's that entered the picture. DISCRETE component organs ( EVERY BRAND up to around 68') always sound great regardless of how basic the model. Discrete, meaning 1 part does 1 duty. ie. INDIVIDUAL> transistors, tubes, tone wheels, electrostatic reeds.

    +Theroux Burroughs I actually have a '68 organ that I'm trying to fix, a Lowrey DSA-220. The problem is, that the guy who owns it, though knows his electronics, doesn't have time to help me out with it (and he's had it for over 12 years, still isn't close to being fixed) so it's really inconvenient how there's so little help to be had even on the internet. There's a video on my channel representing what state it was in a few months ago, now it's somehow managed to get even worse.

    Somewhere inside the organ is a speed adjustment for the "repeat" function. The "Baba O'riley" sound uses a faster setting.

    Yes, there is a speed trim pot on the back side of the organ. There is a KZread video that shows the location of the adjustment. I left it at its factory setting. I can always show the buyer where to adjust if needed.

    Thanks for such a great demo. Too many people who demo organs on YT just run through each note with each stop without actually playing any music or they just play some cheesy jazz tune! This gives a great demonstration of the range of the TLO-R. Best Lowrey organ demo I've found on YT!

    At 1:17 to around 1:23 those chords and that setting sound identical to the organ part on Pink Floyd's song Cirrus Minor. I'd always taken it to be a Hammond but now I'm not so sure! Great demo!

    It's possible. Rick Wright's signature organ in the early Pink Floyd was a Farfisa Compact Duo , and then he began playing a Hammond M-100 around 1970. However on some of their early studio recordings he might have used Abbey Road's Lowrey DSO instead; "Matilda Mother" for example doesn't quite sound like a Hammond, and sounds nothing like the Farfisa.

  • @nickhirst999

    @@moogyboy6 Yes, Matilda Mother has always stood out as being a different sound. I've actually got a Compact Duo and you're right, it's not a standard sound from the Duo. I wondered whether he was putting it through the Vox wah as he sometimes did, set in one position to give it that nasal tone. I've got an original Vox wah too and keep meaning to try that. More was recorded at Pye studios, who may have had a Lowrey. That's not to say that overdubs may not have been done at Abbey Road. The odd thing about Cirrus Minor is that it's mono until the organ comes in suggesting it may have been recorded earlier (and maybe elsewhere) than the rest of the album.

    They also arpeggiate the upper keyboard notes, by how you play a chord on the lower manual. They call it the Virtuoso, it acts like the Hammond Arpeggiator/Thomas Arpeggio Magic.

    Hi! I have a lowrey TLDR1, it looks almost exactly like yours except for the top key thing and some effects. I wanted to know if by any chance you could help me figure out why one of the keys is constantly playing on the top deck. I looked inside and it might be a spring but i killed it so it can stop but it came back!

    On a different model I have, that's the Orbit 3 Synthesizer up there. Very rare. I should get it working again. Pretty amazing at the time, the first one with a Synth as I recall.

    I still have the next model up with the Orbit 3 Synthesizer on the top instead. Hasn't worked in three decades. I should try to get it going again. Quite the advancement at the time. It may have been newer, around '71 I think.

    I had a Lowrey organ kind of like this, but older. I think it was from the early '60's. The music books that came with it, had advertisements on the back for instructional films about the organs that you could buy back then. I'm kind of curious to see them. I wonder if anyone has them and would put them on You Tube?

    @@organist660 I'm not looking for the books. I'm looking for the educational films that were advertised in the books. I'm not sure what kind of films they were. Probably whatever format you cold view on a home film projector back then, probably super 8, I imagine. I don't want to buy the films, I'm just curious if anyone has them so they can post them on KZread. I bet all the Lowrey organ collectors would love to see them because they probably tell you how to do things with the organ that people today didn't even know you could do with them.

  • @patricksaxon3983

    Nope, it is from the mid 1960s, not from the 1970s. Up on top is what they call the Virtuoso (Mini keyboard) as it arpeggiates the upper keyboard organ voices according to how you play your chords on the lower keyboard.Try it with sustain on the upper keyboard. You play a chord on the lower keyboard, then slide your finger across that very top mini keyboard, called the Virtuoso. It is just like the Hammond Arpeggiator/Thomas Arpeggio Magic.

    I recently inherited a Lowrey TLO (not TLO-R). I'm trying to get it to sound more like a jazzy Hammond type organ. But even with the leslie speaker the sound is lacking. any ideas?

  • @timothyrogers3647

    @timothyrogers3647

    It's probably pretty hard to make a Lowrey TLO sound like a Hammond. Lowrey has completely different electronics from a Hammond. You probably need to work with the tibia/flute sounds to try to come close. Plus you need to keep the Leslie speaker on. I think I did a mod to one of the speaker Leslie rocker switch. If I recall, you could not isolate the Leslie speaker from hearing it by itself when going from slow to fast, vice-versa. I added a little jumper wire on one of the switches. I don't think this Lowrey has percussion to make the keys pop a little, that would help too. Good luck.

  • @WeirdCrazyShortGuy

    @WeirdCrazyShortGuy

    Yeah, playing around with the flute and oboe sounds with vibrato and leslie speaker does somewhat vaguely resemble a Hammond type of sound. I figured that out last night. Not too similar to a Hammond, but still a jazzy bluesy type of sound.
