My Dad’s first fish finder was a flasher. We eventually rigged it up for ice fishing. My brother figured out that the sensor could read thru the ice if it was in a bucket of water and the snow was removed. That totally changed our scouting and structure finding tactics. Fast forward to 2006 and I picked up a lowrance 68c ice pack. I used the map books to find structure. Then wrote notes on lecture cards along with estimated points on the gps map. I’d fine tune the gps map based on in field experiences. After a few years I got into the smart phones and added navonics. I used the navonics to get exact gps locations of structure from my phone and then pre marked them on my ice pack gps before I even got on the ice. I was too worried about dropping that expensive phone in the snow or water so I had to get everything on that 68c. I still have that 68c and will be using it this season of ice fishing. Thanks for this very informative video.

Thank you for being the only person to make a useful video about these sonars. I inherited a slightly used M68C and I have been struggling to find information about it.

I have one for both ice and open water. Yup. Wrap that rascal. And yea it’s a handy little things ain’t the fancy pixie machine but it works well. Remember the best fish location device is the end of your line.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and recommendations. I'm searching for a fishing kayak sonar but will need to mount transducer inside kayak. Typically fish lakes up to 30 feet depth. Should my concerns be with the transducer wattage when making a choice since I must "transduce" thru the hull? Probably going with 5"-7" screen. Thank you so much.
