On 15 December 2021, a/political label presented a special show at The Jazz Cafe celebrating the 10th anniversary of the classic sophomore album Soundtrack to the Struggle by English-Iraqi hip-hop artist and activist Lowkey.
Upon its release in 2011, Soundtrack to the Struggle shot to No1 in the iTunes hip-hop charts with an emphasis on political lyricism and heavyweight features from the likes of Klashnekoff and Immortal Technique.
Known for producing art to confront power and war across the globe, the activist-artist duo kennardphillipps have presented their work both in museums and street protests. At the Soundtrack to the Struggle show, kennardphillipps set the stage with UNTITLED (IRAQ), featured their piece INHUMANITY on an exclusive poster, and designed t-shirts that included work from the series STUDY FOR A HEAD. These t-shirts were worn by the LJ Singers choir who performed with Lowkey on iconic songs such as THE GHOSTS OF GRENFELL alongside special guests singers Mai K, Kaia Laurielle and Karim Kamar on the piano.
