Lowden F25C and Cole Clark FL1 AC Comparison

Музыка

Herewith a video comparing two guitars of mine I love very much.
The intention is not to make one seem better than the other…
It is simpy to let you hear the differences between the instruments by playing the same piece of music with the same type of and gauge of strings in exactly the same environment.
My assessment is that the Lowden has more warmth and a little less projection. Also, as you can also hear during the fade, it is also harmonically much more complex.
Whereas the Cole Clark is a little brighter, projects better and to my ear has a better bass response than the Lowden. It is more crisp...
Yes...I'm aware that
Cedar and Bunya pine are very different woods...but both form part of the softer species and I found it an interesting comparison.
In a band ensemble...I would definitely choose the Cole Clark over the Lowden. It would cut through the mix better. In addition to being a smidgen more versatile.
In a Finger-style concert and venue...I thinks its fair to say the Lowden would be my instrument of choice.
To sum things up...both are superb instruments.
Strings: Elixir 13 to 56 PB
Tune: "Verbatim" F. Herrmann 2021

If it comes to the acoustic sound - lowden is a true winner for me even if i'm in love with cole clarks but mostly for the electronics system :)

Very nicely played (as always with you)! The Lowden seemed to have more overall clarity in its intonation while the Cole Clark sounded a bit more 'all over the place' in terms of how the intonation was ringing out, harmonic overtone type thing. Just my opinion. Your demos and compositions are always a treat.

Interesting comparison. I felt like the registers across the strings was more balanced in the Lowden, more distinctly different on the Cole Clark. I think that's why people almost always come up and ask me about my Lowden. There's something so uniquely warm and whole about the sound that is appealing to me. Not that the Cole Clark didn't sound nice, but when it comes to finger style I'm all in on the Lowden. Maybe it would be different if you did a rhythmic piece using a plectrum on the two, but finger style I'm hands down a Lowden guy.
