Glad it helped
None of the “professional videos” made on nitro rc tuning that have come out since this one are as easy to understand as your videos thank you I just got my first nitro in 2021 and your video makes the most sense
Thanks very much, I'm 40 but I still learnt something from you, well done and keep it up :)

im new to nitro rc. ive finished running in and ready tune. ive watched many video's and have been confused by many of them until now. your video is the best. very well explained. hopefully u have one on the HSN as well. thanks heaps for the video dude.
Mate your videos are top notch stuff and very very well explained for beginners to understand like myself. Just getting into nitro after having a year on electric and I'm struggling to tune it but watching your videos you are making it very clear.
Well it depends entirely on how the engine is running :) sometimes you have to tune the LSN first as it simply won't run to tune the HSN.
Great information here! Been into large scale gasoline boats and now I'm into big brushless electric boats. But I decided to get a nitro truck yesterday. I got the new HPI Savage XL K5.9. I had a hard time getting it running out of the box. The tips here helped me get it running in minutes. Thanks!!!
Thanks a lot for this video! I had been having severe difficulty starting my Savage XL ever since I bought it. Using your vid I was able to recognize the problem right away (low speed was way too rich). I leaned it out and now it starts with ease and I get great throttle response!
I think this is hands down the best LSN adjustable video I have seen yet. I'm new to the nitro hobby and am in the process of breaking in my new Losi 8ight Buggy, my 1st nitro rc car. This low needle adjustment has been a pain lol. I seem to get it running okay but the next day when I start it, I have to lean it out to get it to start & then richen it up again to run it right. I'm hoping that it's just cuz it's a new motor. I'm on tank #7 today. For my break in, I ran 3 idle tanks on the vert rich side, cooling down between tanks. Then tank #4 @ 25% throttle bursts & tank #5 to #7 @ 50% throttle bursts. Today it seemed to start somewhat easier, but I still had to lean out the LSN prior to starting.
this kid is better than me at nitro stuff and has taught me a thing or two and im 4 times his age. so anyone out there who has a problem with his video's simply dont watch them. thanks jthornley your doing a great job keep it up. just ignore the haters they're just jealous that you know more than they do
Out of all the videos I have watched, this was one of the best. Thanks.
well done for the video. This is much better than a lot of adults out there who claim to have experience but know nothing about delivering that to others.. You'll make a great teacher one day kid.
best LSN tuning guide video on youtube, tones of info and examples of right, too lean, too rich, great pinch test demostration as well. thanks jthornley12 :)
Dude I still come to this video every now and then considering I'm fairly new to the hobby and always refreshes my mind and helps a lot thanks buddy
Great video buddy. Im breaking in and tuning my Revvo 3.3 today and this help alot. Top work.

I'm new to nitro rc and am totally lost. Your videos are helping me find my way. Thanks a bunch.
Your videos are so helpful my nitro car was passed down to me and am now learning how to tune and to keep it running for a long time and I thank you for all your help
Awesome! happy tuning mate
I have watched many videos and not one of them made sense to me until I watched yours THANKS lol my nitro rustler is running great
Good job on the tech video RC-Madness! This should help anyone learning how to get into nitro RC.
Thanks a lot dude ... the pinch test was new to me and helped me a lot. Thanks from a 35year old german nitro noob !
Ok sounds good J. I will give that a try. i watched your videos on how to tune the engine and i learned very much from them. They're a lot better than the others i found on youtube with the demonstrations and what not. Thank you!!
Really informative man. I've been having problems with this but you explained it really well. Thanks
I was having some issues with my new nitro engine and this vid helped me loads! Keep up the great vids mate!
@rcfreak96 well any area of the Fuel line is ok. Just remember to pinch the same part every time for accurate tuning. I would recommend you putting a line on the fuel tubing with permanent ink to mark where to pinch it every time.
@ScarabChris No problem :) A good choice as well, in time for snow! Have fun
@thanhson000 One had half turns in from flush, LSN flush n one turn in :) You'll need to adjust it though depending on your running conditions/fuel %/brand/Glow plug etc.
@MrPelefant Sounds like its running pretty well to me. 7 seconds suggests slightly on the rich side, but thats not a problem. wheels always spin when you pinch the fuel line :D
Well done youny man! Not only are you knoledgable, more importantly, you have the ability to explain things so a noob to tuning rc nitro like me can understand and grasp. Only recomendation would be to actually show us your making adjustments by sound with the engine running...how you found the right spot on lsn and idle.
Thanks for your support :)
ive since watched your other vids you posted and seem to have sorted my truggy now so thanks alot for posting the vids they helped me out loads!!
Well said sir. I've watchecd a few videos on tuning and this has to be the easiest to understand. Thanks.
It's those R/C Nitro pull starts. Great way to do a work out
Thanks man this video helped me out I been trying to turn my nitro on for 2 days I saw ur video and my car runs perfect
That is the best video I have ever seen on nitro. Very well done
One of the best nitro tuning vids
@rwdb11 Sometimes Nitro engines always spit some fuel out, even when properly tuned. As long as temperatures are in the 200-250 degrees F Range & you have good exhaust smoke at full throttle, it's tuned correctly
This makes perfect sense now. Well done.
Thanks, i blew a glow plug first, but then everything was right!! Awesome video bud!!
I think I understood most of it. Nice explanation and demonstrations of what is being explained. Saludos!
@Kill3rAnth no problem, thanks for your comment and view :)
wow bud , you are half my age and taught me something , great video great advice , i do beleive you just saved me from having to buy a new engine , thank you .
Dude omg thanx a lot. My ofna hyper ss wouldn't start unless I held the throttle all the way down and once I let go it would shut off. It started doing that when I richened the low speed needle and it shut off. From then on I couldn't get it start without holding the throttle. Great video dude
Great video! Well done. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

@troll0405 Hi there, I'd recommend you check with the manufacturer for the settings on your Engine. For 21 engine if using 25%-30% fuel then use a medium cold/cold plug
Great vid , was having problems with bogging and this vid help me solve it . Cheers pal
@vincedajose No problem :) thanks for watching
@ahmedtheking123 Check the idle gap is only 1mm open. you can adjust it using your Idle speed screw. Additionally, upon checking and you can confirm it is 1mm open, perhaps your clutch shoes are due replacement. you can check this if you push the break on your car and it stalls, then your ready for clutch replacement.
@graemecan Ok no worries ;) yep always good to make a note of them
You did a fine job young man .I bet your parents are proud of you .I would be .

old video.. but VERY useful THANKS... I have never tuned it because manual recommended not to -.-* it runs much better now, and starts much easier thanks again!
Great video, learned more from this than the TRAXXAS video! thanks little man!
best video i've seen until now !
Thanks, great video my tmaxx just revs super high when started n wheels creep a lot. Trying figure it. Will try this.
Great video Lad!! I learned everything I needed to know my friend good job!!
@MrHeAtErMaN No problems. Thanks for watching :)
No problem :) Thanks for your comment
@mattz7tube No worries :) thanks for watching
absolutely brilliant m8. you know your stuff! u just saved the life of a CEN GX-1, my fella was about to throw it at a wall until he came across ur videos lol. thank you very much! x jess =]
best vid on here about setting your traxxas, very helpful! thanks young fellow
bigger motors tke a little longer to shut down when pinched ,but when you have stable idle and good acceleration you have a good low speed screw setting !my low speed needle is 1,3 mm out !on my mgt 8 monstertruck !good imformative video !
@graemecan Hi there- If you've turned the LSN all the way in then It will be rather lean... If you start engine, and just turn the LSN counter clockwise (Back out) Until it's flushed with the edges (It'll probably stall engine at that moment) then turn it half a turn in. That is stock for the LSN. Re-start engine and check that it idles ok. If it is low engine sound then lean it (CW) If it's high engine sound then Richen it (CCW)..... HSN default is flush to edges and one and half turns in :)
@rwdb11 When the tank is filled over 3/4 sometimes it can add too much pressure and can often cause your engine to run rich for the first 3-5 mins or so of running.
Great video. I'm struggling to get a good tune with my nitro but I think I got it now
nice vid , I was having that prob on my tmaxx , now I need a good break video thnxx
Such a fantastic instructional video. Thank you!

I just finished the 4 part videos and now I got my deploma as a nitro rc champ. lol. Anyway I learned a lot and I'm new to nitro I like nitro now more than electric.
Well hopefully when I try that tomorrow it will sort my running problems out. Wish I found these vids ages ago. So nice to hear an English voice instead of American. Well done mate i've already subscribed and watched about 20 of your other vids
@Nnitro12 What car do you have? most cars require double A batteries
Very well put young man. Thanks. I'm tuning in the cold season right now. more oxygen in the air. keeping the kit warm before use, and heat guns are my friend. Keep it up. Peace.
well done young man you sorted my problem out thanks keep it up
cheers for this video matey, will help me tune my savage 4.6-keep up the good work, and posting good videoes..
@KiTKaTsOG The truck revving up and moving forward is totally normal as said in the video :D if it quits within 5 seconds then your settings are good. The wheels spinning could be due to a High idle or lean LSN. Use pinch test to check the LSN and if it's good then lower idle screw :) Carb opening gap should be 1mm open
@gixxerovios Very good question, You always make tuning adjustments when the engine is at normal operating temperature. Usually this is after 5 mins or so of just driving around, using throttle. 110c is a good operating temperature for most engines, it's pretty perfect actually. You could try Richening the LSN just a tad, but it seems all good. Hope this helps :)
Many thanks for the comment, :) RC-M
@Chris71920 You can replace the seal mate. Check your User manual for part number
@trigeron Could be either ;) Sounds more like HSN being too rich to me though. Do the pinch test and see if the engine quits within 5 seconds. if it takes longer then most likely it might be LSN being too rich problem
Hi , what can i say , best ever , keep up the good work .
@Theapplefan97 no problem I'm glad it helped :)
Thanks mate. I know this is an old video. But a really good demonstration.

Thanks for your kind comment :)
@MrMLMFB Perhaps you have a clutch issue. But for new engines, it is fairly normal as the clutch needs to wear in a bit. See how you get on, keep it off the ground when idling it
@MrHowells1986 No worries :) Glad it helped
Mine 3 days ago on my savage it was to lean on the low and I melted the piston ordering a piston thanks to you vid I know what I did wrong, but you vids are very helpful thanks
great vid i have a thunder tiger s50 i guess the same applies very usefull all i need is a hight speed one now thanks mate very good
thanks, replacing the glow plug fixed, it runs great now!
Hi I would like to start by saying your videos have been very helpful to me in the past and helped me set up my last nitro car. I have been running a thunder tiger sledgehammer for 6 months which has been working great and easy to tune. I have just picked up a tomahawk mx and am having a bit of trouble starting it. I have been breaking it in (its been through 4 tanks of fuel now) but have been having trouble starting it since. When I pull the cord the engine starts then stalls instantly.
I bought a used tmaxx with a 3.3 and it constantly overheated and was really accelerated that was my first nitro i think this video might be the answer. Thanks time to bring it out of retirement

Good to know!
@syndrom321 Yes, totally normal. Like regular car engines, these consume more fuel when cold
@Rcman444 Is your radio/electronic system working correctly?
Thanks for the positive comments! :)
@Kill3rAnth Lean LSN perhaps? and check the Carb gap is 1.5mm or so open at idle.
Good i could not understand the video at the first view but after watching different videos about pinching the hose now i got it. Cool!!
Well fit the car or the engine? It should fit the engine, but moulding it to fit around your body shell might be an issue
@xontroi Hmm well the possibility might be, that the HSN is running very lean and therefore is effecting the Idle mixture as well. As long as your Glow plugs are not burning out quickly, and the Idle is not too high or engine is revving by itself, then your ok. Fuel % and heat of plugs can often effect tuning settings and engine behaviour :)
@randomguy2k6 No worries, glad it helped :) Thanks
Great video. Really helped me a lot, thanks JThornley :)
It's practice mate ;) that's all I can say to you. I nearly gave up with Nitro after a few weeks of owning one. but after nearly 4 years of RC I'd never look at leaving Nitro for electric again. I truly love both but nothing beats the thrill of a nitro, stick with it :)
