Low Rider ST First Ride Review

This week I’m riding a Harley Davidson Low Rider ST for the first time. Did I find the ultimate bike for my next riding chapter? The FXLRST is close to Harley Davidson level perfect IF you're under 5-10” tall and 250lbs. If you're larger than that you may want to compare this model to one of the touring chassis models, a Street Glide or Road Glide. At 6’0 and 215lbs there’s some quirkiness to its ergonomics for me. I'll admit it's nothing $1600 wouldn't fix. But add that on top of the MSRP price and the dealer fees and well you're easily at $25K or more. That's the thing about a Harley, you can modify them. But the point I'm making in this video is why modify one Harley when another will equally serve you better and cheaper. Let’s hop and ride this steed. See you in the video.

    Some additional comments from a '23 FXLRST owner: 1) The vent in the middle of the fairing funnels debris, bugs, and rain straight into your helmet [I am looking into getting someone to create a mesh screen of some sort to fix that] 2) That stock exhaust runs HOT and has caused a lot of radiating heat burns on my inner thigh [looking into a 2-into-1 exhaust and tuner to fix that] 3) There are not a lot of OEM options for it yet, and I'm not a huge fan of HD options 4) Agree on the lights and chrome handles- very outdated and both will be replaced 5) I personally like the simplicity of the display- not a fan of a bunch of distracting displays, buttons, etc 6) This girl GETS IT on the highways and when I really need to twist-and-git. 7) She's way lighter than full-sized baggers (about 725 wet) and it way more nimble 8) I've taken her on long-distance trips already, and other than the stock seat being mediocre- I had zero problems and really enjoyed myself. All in all, best irresponsible decision I've ever made and I'm pretty satisfied. I plan on employing Blockhead Garage to do some upgrades for me in '24. Great video!

    I purchased a 2022 Lowrider ST. I didn't like the peg position but Harley does make forward controls for this bike. You will hear some say that the snorkel type air filter gets in the way when using forward controls. I'm 5' 11" and it's not an issue to me. These allow you to get your feet out in front of you and to me a much better riding position. As for the incandescent turn signals and non-black levers I think Harley does that just so you will spend more money to change those out. Not an issue with me. Now that the weather is getting cooler in Texas it's just now getting riding season and I'm ready to lay down some miles on this bike.

    Congratulations! Forwards are available and different bar options to create your custom rider triangle. Shorter riders choosing forward controls may require a seat that pushes them toward the bars. In the end it’s a Harley, very customizable. Did you consider a street or road glide or did you go straight to the FXLRST?

    @@KennyQuestShow I looked at all of those and was torn as to which I wanted. Actually it came down between the Roadglide and the ST. My problem is that I don’t know if my wife will enjoy riding. If I knew without a doubt that she wanted to tour with me I would’ve gone with the roadglide. But if she doesn’t the ST will be all I need. So my plan is to try it out on the ST and if she loves it we may go roadglide. But if she likes traveling on the ST we may keep it. Time will tell.

    @@westtexan2263 that makes perfect sense. 2 up riding and touring is where a bagger shines, otherwise a nimble Swiss Army knife type bike like the ST, Heritage, Roadking or Sportglide checks the boxes.

    Not a fan of the digital instrument and info display.Should have the analog display on the tank,or an insert in the fairing with instruments.Should have offered it with a choice of blacked out or chrome imo.

    I just started the process of buying a sand Pearl today. I’m fairly excited, on the negative side I’m not a fan of HD but nobody offers a bike like this other than an 80’s Honda, I’m not a fan of the bags for the Indian sport chief and I’m tired of wearing a backpack.

    To me, it looks incomplete inside the cockpit. The FXRT had a finished look inside the fairing. This needs a cockpit equal to a road glide, but at that point you may has well buy a road glide.

  • @KennyQuestShow

    @KennyQuestShow

    It’s a style that mimics what has been happening in the custom scene, mounting FXRT “style” fairings onto dyna and softail chassis. Though many of these after market versions have solid interiors that allow for cutting in of controls and speakers, so I agree it’s hallowed out appearance looks incomplete. I think HD was value engineering to a price point to give a reason to step up to a fully faired touring model, IMO.

    I haven't tried the ST, I've rode multiple Lowrider S though. has the ST always had only 1 mirror? that would drive me nuts! So far the S is one of the best Harleys I've ridden. When this weather clears up we still have to get some miles in brotha!

    Most definitely, we need to lay down some miles on the sporty’s. I rode the stage III Low Rider S after this first ride review (there’s a link to that experience at the end of this video) and THAT set up is hands down the best HD I’ve ridden so far. With some mods for my specific needs, like that 117 to 122 kit, this could be the next bike.

    Yeah I went into more about that in my low rider S review. Im seeing bigger people doing forward controls on the ST and S. I’m also noticing on the road (in my area) as well as on you tube that people who buy these bikes are women and smaller dudes. Men 5-11 and up are choosing baggers, road kings, fat boys or the heritage
