Hamas intentionally crossed the line this time and they knew that when they did it. I don't know if they think there is some secret surprise attack coming from Iran or what, but they did something knowing it would lead to probably 100,000 of their people dying. This was always going to happen eventually, but giving Isreal a real excuse to get the party started was not a wise move.

I find this whole "Israel wouldn't lie to us because they're the good guys " thing equal parts sad and amusing.

I’m trying to imagine the response to Serbian militias if they were targeting UN personnel and facilities and journalists, hospitals, ambulances and press buildings. I certainly remember how the siege and shelling of Sarajevo was and is treated. There was no talk about Serbs being able to defend themselves and requiring a 5 minute long condemnation of Islamist militants and Al Qaeda among the Bosnians.
