Finding out Richards alive and well and doing ok even as recently as a year ago is really comforting.

I was just watching "Smithereens" last night for the first time in nearly 40 years. He looks almost exactly the same same 40 years later.

I always liked Richard Hell. I even enjoyed the movies he did. I can understand that feeling of your heart being near exploding, and being worried anything would surprise you and give you a heart attack. I need to check out the new Destiny St album. Thanks for the interview

I thought he was terrific in Smithereens .... I thought he was an actor when I first saw it, back around 1983. I had no idea he'd never been in anything but some very very very indie pieces. Susan Sideman and Susan German really brought out something in him.

Would have loved to hear his recollections of being in the Heartbreakers, considering all its members died now officially with Walter Lure passing...and the fact that everyone knew he didn't care about music, he was only looking for a medium for his writing. I agree with him about the teenage thing..Once you become an adult who's learned the routines and patterns of society, it's harder to illicit natural anger at things because you intuitively understand human nature in a more intellectual way. Rock was a primitive, angry reaction at the paradigm set up by society and human kind's bad energy..Once you get older you learn to bob and weave around this and learn that you can create your own personal world within your own home/sphere. Good interview from one of the few "humble" celebrities in the world!

This is a great interview. There's relatively so little material about or with Richard Hell, especially in depth interviews such as this one. I have been listening to "Destiny Street Complete" on streaming (cd is on the way) and you're right, the original 1982 is the best. Now we get it remixed, which is even better. Greetings from Brazil.

Thank you for sharing this! Richard is one of my all time favorites. Would it be ok to take a small clip to replay on our show? We started a stream to help promote musicians and businesses and would love the opportunity to promote your show as it’s gotten us through this past year. We originally air on Facebook then upload after the live to KZread. Thanks very much!

I love Richard so much because I agree so much with his tastes. As I agree with the Stones. And I barely listen to other music than the few i like the tastes of. When I first listened to Destiny Street I found it really missed that clarity that Blank Generation had. And that I think is pretty rare, clarity mixed with energy, creativity and sensitivity. But I felt too that the lyrics and some aspects of the music were greater in that second album. So I ended up loving the second better. I think you have to listen it one thousand times to compensate the mess it is and get to the interesting stuff. Destiny Street Repaired I was found of. I found it legitimate, but daring, but really nicely done. I mean the guitar additions are interesting and I respect immensly people that go back in time and do it right (I don't think it happens really often). But obviously it didn't sound so spontaneous. So I've progressively got to prefer the original mix. I think this new remix could be the one. But f*ck it's not coming to me !!! I think i'll listen to the three versions anyway. Just for variety. Thank you for sharing this!
