Low Cost Bus | Narita Airport to/from Tokyo Station | Cheapest, Easiest, Fastest Way to Tokyo

On February 1st, 2020, a joint operation of Access Narita and Tokyo Shuttle launched Airport bus "TYO-NRT" Shuttle which connects Tokyo and Ginza station with Narita International Airport. Due to the joint operation, there will no longer be separate buses run by Access Narita and Tokyo Shuttle.
The Airport bus "TYO-NRT"shuttle will operate at approximately 10 minute interval and there will be 284 buses per day. On busy hours, the bus is expected to run at approximately 5 minute interval. It will stop at Tokyo Station, Ginza Station, Oedo Onsen Monogatari, Shinonome Garage, Shinonome AEON, Narita International Airport and some hotels in between Tokyo station and the airport.
Buses are equipped with luggage storage facilities and some will feature power sockets and complimentary onboard Wi-Fi. However, there are no onboard toilets and the legroom is slightly less. Bringing on skis, surfboard, golfbags, bicycles and other big luggages are prohibited. Only 1 suitcase per person is allowed. The first shuttle will leave Tokyo Station at 5am and the last one will leave at 19:30, while departures from Narita Airport are between 7:30 am and 11:00 pm. Departures are every 10 minutes during peak periods, with the journey taking between 70 and 90 minutes.

I took this low cost bus from Tokyo Station to Narita Terminal 2 (after I have watched this video) last August 07, 2023. I had a small and medium luggages. The baggage handler just asked which terminal I am getting off. Was given 2 stickers for claiming my luggages on arrival. I paid using suica card - 1,300 yen when I boarded the bus. It was a smooth and quick ride...and much cheaper than the limousine bus.

Hi Xyrus! Thank you for watching my video and for giving such wonderful feedback! I am really happy to hear that my video has helped you in your recent trip to Tokyo. Just want to clarify though. You mentioned that you had two luggages with you. So you mean they now allow 2 luggages per person to be stored under the bus? If that is the case, that is definitely good news! This great deal even got better! 😊

@@wheretonext1190 Honestly, I missed the part where you mentioned passengers are only allowed for 1 piece of luggage when you took the bus on the early part of the video. When I got to Tokyo Station Yaesu Exit and looked for bay 7 for this bus, there was a queue and I simply joined the other passengers. I was asked which terminal I am getting off and handed me 2 stickers. When we arrived at terminal 2, I waited for other passengers to collect their luggages. And when it was my turn, I handed over the 2 stickers to the handler and without a word, just handed me my luggages. Maybe because it was a small and a medium size...? (I noticed that this low cost bus is operated by JR Bus Kanto Company......)

Hi again Xyrus! Thank you for your reply. I guess you are right. It could have been because you only had medium and small luggages with you. OR maybe you were just also lucky with the bus company or the handler. But just the same, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it. It made me curious to check further and confirm if they really allow 2 luggages now. I can probably check it myself when I use the low cost bus again. Will give an update in my channel if ever there are changes. Thanks a lot again Xyrus! In case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more travel videos. Hi Flobo! Thank you for watching my videos and for subscribing to my channel. I really, really appreciate it. With regards to your query, Ginza station is actually just a 7-min walk from Tokyo station. But of course, depending on where in Ginza your destination is, the walk could be much further. As to the low cost buses, there are actually trips that stop in Ginza (though the bus stop is much closer to Yurakucho station than in Ginza station). Though they are not as frequent, you may want to consider that if your arrival coincides with the time of departure of the bus for Ginza. For more details, you may refer to this link. tyo-nrt.com/wp/wp-content/themes/tyo-nrt/files/timetable_en.pdf Yes, taking a train for just one stop is also an option, but if you have luggage with you, you may also consider taking a taxi for about 500-700yen. I hope I was able to help you in my own small way. Thanks again for your support and enjoy your travels! 😊

Hi Hero! Thank you for watching my video and for giving such positive feedback! I really appreciate it. With regards to your query, low cost buses only allow one luggage per person to be stored under the bus. If you have more than one wheeled luggage, you may wish to also consider taking the limousine buses as they allow 2 luggages per person to be stored under the bus. I have heard feedback that some low cost buses allow 2 pcs of small to medium-sized luggages, so I guess it may depend on the size of the luggages as well, or the luggage attendant. But just the same, their rule is really one luggage per person. @wheretonext1190

Hi! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, there is no price difference whether you pay using an IC card like Suica or if you buy a ticket at the vending machine or at the ticket counter. The cost will be the same. I guess it is just a matter of preference and/or convenience. Most locals use their IC cards since they already have access to them, but it only takes maybe 1-2mins anyway to get actual tickets. The low cost buses all have non-reserved seating so you can sit anywhere. The driver will let you know if the bus is full already. Anyway, I hope I was able to answer your questions. Tokyo Station JPY1300 2. Ginza JPY1300 3. Shinonome Aeon JPY1300 4. Toyosu JPY1800 5. Kawaguchi/Akabane JPY1800 6. Low cost buses only stop at main stations like Tokyo, Ginza, Toyosu, Ikebukuro among others. You can just probably take a train from Tokyo station to Higashi-Nihombashi station, which would take around 15mins. You can also opt to take a taxi (10min ride). You can easily buy tickets at the JR Expressway Bus office at the Yaesu South Exit of Tokyo station. This is also where you board the buses to Narita Airport. @wheretonext1190

    8 ай бұрын

Hi Woody! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your question, as far as I know, the earliest time you can reach Narita airport by public transportation is 6:05am using the low cost bus. The bus leaves Tokyo station at 5am. There are trains leaving at 4:45am but travel time is longer so your best bet is the bus. If your flight is at 8am or later, I think you should be ok taking the bus as you will arrive at the airport at least 2hrs before your flight. Alternatively, you can also consider spending the night at a hotel near the airport as they would normally have shuttle buses to the airport. I hope I was able to address your concern and help you in my own small way. In case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more useful travel videos. Hi, you mentioned under one of the replies that the driver will let you know if the bus is full. Does that mean that buying a ticket at the counter under a specific time doesn’t guarantee a spot on the bus? If we were to take the bus from terminal 1, can we pay with IC card?

  • @wheretonext1190

    @wheretonext1190

    9 ай бұрын

Hi! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, the schedule of low cost buses is frequent - every 10mins during peak hours and so they rarely get 100% full. The ticket counter is just a few meters away from the loading area and so I guess they have their way of monitoring the passenger count of the buses. They usually offer you a choice, if you want to take the current bus, or the next bus. And yes, you can use your IC card when you board the bus at Terminal 1. It would actually be more flexible if you use an IC card as you can just ride the bus without being limited to a specific time. I hope I was able to answer your questions and help you in my own small way. In case you havent, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more useful travel videos. Thanks again! Hi Afif! Thank you for watching my video! With regards to your query, yes, the low cost buses should still be running when you arrive. As far as I know, their fare of JPY1300 holds until the 10:45pm departure (second to the last) so you should still be fine, granting that you are out of the airport by 10pm. Hi Rosalyn! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, your choice of hotel in Tokyo would depend on which area you want to stay in and your budget. There are a lot of options in the busy and touristy areas of Shinjuku and Shibuya but the more reasonably priced are located in the areas of Asakusa, Ueno and the neighborhood of Ningyocho. Regardless of your choice, it is best to just stay near a train station - maybe within a 10min walk, so that you can easily move around and see the tourist areas. Personally, I can recommend the two hotels I have stayed in: JR Mets Hotel in Akihabara and Sotetsu Fresa Inn in Ginza. Here are the links to my hotel videos in case you are interested. kzread.info/dash/bejne/aIebq9mdZ5jZitY.htmlfeature=shared kzread.info/dash/bejne/c5-XltiDgc2cotI.htmlfeature=shared I will be featuring more Tokyo hotels in my future videos and so in case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel so that you don't miss them. Hi Alecs! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, yes, based on my experiences riding the low cost buses, so far, they do leave and arrive on time. Although if I recall it correctly, they do have a note saying something like delays may occur due to traffic or incidents beyond their control. In your case, maybe a longer trip is more prone to delay due to traffic/road conditions and/or extended bathroom and food breaks. Although of course, it is ideal that they should always be on time. You can also opt to use the low cost bus from Narita airport to Tokyo station, then take the train from Tokyo station to Shinjuku station. You may download the app Japan Transit Planner to help you with the trains and buses in Tokyo. Hope this information helps. 😊

Thanks for your reply. I have a question for a totally different subject and was wondering if you could help me out. I am trying to book tickets for Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden in Kitakyushu. The link takes me to Webket but it is asking for Authentication ID. The ID is not the same as the login. Do you know what Authentication ID is? Is it a special Japanese ID? I really appreciate you answering questions. Thanks!

Hi again Kelly! With regards to your query, I am sorry but I haven't tried buying tickets for Kawachi Fujien Wisteria Garden. I tried simulating the purchase of tickets though, and it seems like ticket sales hasn't started yet. I saw the following notice: The 2024 ticketing period is scheduled from April 20 to May 6. Best regards. ● Convenience store tickets are available from 0:00 am on April 1st. ● Online tickets (sold only on this official website) are scheduled to go on sale from 10 am on March 25th. So maybe we can try again on March25. Hopefully it works out then. :)

Hi John! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your questions, yes, you can use your IC card to ride the low cost buses from Tokyo station to Narita airport. Alternatively, for buses running between 5am to 6am (outside of office hours), you can also pay in cash directly to the driver of the bus. I hope I was able to help you in my own small way. In case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more useful travel videos. Thanks again! Enjoy your travels! 😊

Hi again John. Yes, for early morning and late night buses, the fare is JPY2600 for adults. In this case, you may also consider taking the train. There is a 5:04am Sobu line train from Tokyo station to Narita airport which costs JPY1342 and takes 1hr and 24mins. Hope this information helps. 😊

Hi Robyn! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, yes, there is a ticket counter at Narita airport where you can buy the bus ticket and pay in cash. Alternatively, if you will also purchase an IC card like Suica, you can also use that instead of buying a ticket. The cost will be the same. I hope I was able to answer your questions. Hi, thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, low cost buses only allow one luggage per person to be stored under the bus. You can carry a backpack or travel bag with you. Just ensure that you can comfortably put it on your lap or by your feet without bothering the passenger beside you. If you have 2 wheeled luggages, you might want to consider limousine buses which allow 2 luggages per person. It is more expensive though. I hope I was able to answer your question and help you in my own small way. In case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more useful travel videos. Thanks again! 😊

Hi, thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. Yes, Japan is very tourist friendly. You will find English signs in major cities and tourist areas. Even their ticket and vending machines have options for English as well. And when all else fails, you will definitely always meet a local Japanese who speaks at least basic English. And yes, there is also the ever reliable Google Translate. 😊

Hi Robin! Thank you for watching my video and for visiting my channel. With regards to your query, low cost buses allow you to bring in only one big luggage per person that would be stored under the bus. As for hand carried luggage, you can bring maybe a backpack or tote bag, or any bag that you can comfortably place on your lap or near your feet. So far, I haven't seen anyone yet who has brought in a wheeled hand carry inside a low cost bus but I have seen people with backpacks. I hope I was able to address your concerns. In case you haven't, I hope you can also consider subscribing to my channel for more useful travel videos. Thanks again! Enjoy your travels! 😊
