I have been fortunate enough to have seen live many of the rock/metal giants from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Who, Rolling Stones, Dio (with Rainbow and Black Sabbath) Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc, and honestly, not many of the bands of this generation really blow me away. I mean there are some really excellent, talented bands out there but not many really grab me and draw me in. Then there is Lovebites. They are everything I could want in a great band. They are amazing musicians, songwriters, and lyricists. The vocals are tremendous too. As you go down the rabbit hole, you will hear they play all different styles of metal and with each song, you get more and more blown away. And with the addition of their newest bass player, Fami, it seems they are taking their sound and talents to a new level. Enjoy the ride!!

The bassist on this song was original bassist Miho. the only song with Fami that is a full song is the release from their new album due out in February Judgement Day. and a short version of one of their original songs Bravehearted (Not a full song)

Lovebites were named for the Halestorm song. So: Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 and dropped their first song, “Judgement Day” on December 22. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics, and cowrote the music for “Judgement Day” with Mao. In mid-2020, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They recently announced their new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Meanwhile, Lovebites' LB videos uploaded by fans are accepted for most countries in the world. Lovebites has become known worldwide through these videos and the resulting reaction videos. Other bands, such as Mary's Blood (extremely good band) have continued to pursue this erasure strategy. Mary's Blood did not become popular because of this. That's why the band broke up in April of those years.😭

That's how it goes on and on, everything you knew and loved from before combined in the new style and brought to perfection, the girls are also very proud of their roots. suddenly Lovebites is in your life. if you go on a Japan Reaction trip in particular, your entire musical worldview will be severely shaken, but it's hugely worth it. As a middle European, I'm very spoiled for metal, but it all hit me hard, I've been on the Japan Music trip for 5 1/2 years now, I'm probably at 30% and already know quite a bit (I imagine! 😬) Great reaction

It’s funny besides the metal scene is getting huge in Japan, but a lot of the bands are all females. I have about 5 bands on our list. Well actually 8. The 5 bands we just added to 3 we already enjoy, or at least I do. I’m not sure if Rod knows as many Japanese artists as I do. I just introduced him to two recently. One he loved, the other he hated. When people ask me my favorite genre, I usually say Tokyo post hardcore alternative. I may have to update that. 😉 Thank you so much for your comment.

That's what I was thinking. That it was related by name, but not the song. You don't hear it because I muted it during the song, but Rod started to say it was a Halestorm song, but immediately retracted when they started going nuts on the guitars.

@@UniversalReactionsOfficial babymetal has quite a following. personally they don't do a lot for me though. they seem like a 3 girl idol group backed up by a metal band - the kami band. there are a lot of other really good female metal bands to check out where the ladies play their own instruments. LOVEBITES has no competition in my eyes. they are at the top of the metal pile as well as a lot of other styles as you will tell if you keep going with them.

When Asami auditioned as singer, the last song was Lovebites (so do I). They all thought it sounded great and called her back again. They were looking for a name, and liked that one. Later at a metal festival Asami sang with Halestorm on stage for a song or two.

Halestorm's "Lovebites" is where they got their name from. "Set the world on fire" is their own song and has nothing to do with Halestorm.

It is the band name, not the song that is named after Halestorm. When lead singer Asami auditioned, she used the Halestorm song "Love Bites (So Do I)" for her audition piece, which led to them choosing the name Lovebites for the band. That is pretty much where the similarities end. Lovebites are much heavier and much more complex in their music than Halestorm. They have covered Halestorm live (and Asami has joined Halestorm live onstage to also perform the song with them), but the only other covers they have done are Judas Priest's "Painkiller" and Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free."

And they have covered Halestorm's "Love Bites (So Do I)" for "Invitation to the Theater." It's on my channel. You should check it out since it doesn't sound like you know about it. Also, in their early days, LOVEBITES covered "Overkill" by Motorhead, but as far I know, there isn't any footage of it, just setlists as evidence.

Their first ever show was a "secret" show under the name "Powerslaves" on August 4, 2016. In this show they performed covers of the following songs: 1. Headhunter (Krokus) 2. Heavy Metal Thunder (Saxon) 3. Creeping Death (Metallica) 4. Overkill (Motorhead) 5. Battery (Metallica) You can see some footage of this show in the music video for the song "Nameless Warrior" that was released at the end of 2021.

My advice is stay in Japan and stay with LOVEBITES. This is not a cover it is a LOVEBITES song. And yes they are little. The drummer (Haruna) is 4ft 9in and the tallest of them (Miyako) is 5ft 2in. If you thought this was awesome just check out any of their other songs.

Did I put Midoria in the intro? If so, that was an accident. I was trying to get this one cranked out, so I may have added a letter. I’ll fix it in future reactions, since we’ll definitely have more. I am glad that y'all were able to experience Lovebites. I discovered Lovebites shortly after I discovered Band-Maid about 3 years ago. They are still my two favorite Japanese bands but there are a few others that are right behind - Nemophila, Asterism, Unlucky Morpheus, Hanabie, Gacharic Spin and the list could go on. Set The World On Fire was composed by Miyako, the guitarist on stage left with the Dean, and the lyrics were by the vocalist, Asami. As of now Lovebites has 46 songs and 3 instrumentals in their released catalog, the 46th being Judgment Day, the title track of their upcoming album. Miyako has composed 20 of the songs and 2 of the instrumentals and she works alone on her compositions. The only exception is a great song called Break The Wall which Miho started and Miyako finished (probably around a 65/35 split between the two). From the beginning of the band's founding in 2016 by the original bassist Miho, the band has had an unofficial 6th member named Mao. Mao is a composer/keyboardist who began concentrating on composing when his band ended. He has written 5 Lovebites songs on his own and has collaborated with three of the band members in their compositions - Miho (10), Asami (6) and Midori (2). I believe that Miho brought Mao in to assist her in composing since he had a great deal of experience and I know of only one song that Miho composed in her previous band. He then assisted Asami starting with her first song on the second full length album and Midori starting with her first song on the third full length album. As for the naming of the band Lovebites, that is primarily due to Asami. She had learned of an audition for a metal band that needed a vocalist who would be very comfortable singing songs with English lyrics. Asami had a great deal of experience singing in English but in the genres of R&B and Soul. She had virtually no experience singing rock music. To prepare for the audition she began practicing rock songs sung by female vocalists, particularly Lzzy Hale. One of the songs she sang was the Grammy winning Love Bites (So Do I) which was released 4 years prior. Miho and the others were so impressed by Asami that she was brought on as their vocalist and loved the song so much to name the band Lovebites.

Funny, I’ve seen 46, 52, and 54. I personally am not going to quibble over the number, but the preparation story is very interesting. We have Hanabie and Band Maid on the list, but it looks like we’ll be adding some more names. This will be fun. Maybe we’ll see Barker on drums so I can tease Rod again. Lol. Thanks for the info. @@salsaucedo Great! We have more awesome songs to listen to. I’m sure that number will change when the album comes out. That’s my favorite thing about bands. Dropping fresh music we can all enjoy, and then going back and checking out their earlier stuff. It’s like the number of songs is a moving target. 54 just means we have more great music to listen to. I've said it on other channels but I'm going to repeat myself: at 70 I've seen and heard hundreds of bands and I can say, without denigrating or criticizing these bands, that these young women are the best band in metal that I know. They have changed my musical universe for 6 years. And since this period, given what they have shown, we should no longer compare them to the groups of the past because they are the ones who should now serve as a point of comparison. 5 talents of this level in the same group only happens once every 30 years! And still it's not sure.

If you really know Halestorm, you would have known from the first note that in no way is this a Halestorm song, not even close. Hopefully you've learned, forget about Halestorm when it comes to Lovebites music. Its only about the name, that's it. Forget comparing them to ANY band. You nailed it about the 80's/90's, because that is the base of their style, but it's nothing like those days, it's modernized. The only covers I know they've done are "Eagle Fly Free" by Helloween and "Pain Killer" by Judas Priest. Lovebites draws influences from many places, and blends many styles of metal into every one of their songs. They are riff queens.

Yes. I was transported back to all the metal bands my youth pastor told me not to listen to. Lol. It's muted, but Rod figured out right away it was nothing like a Halestorm song. I figured it was by name only, but sometimes it's fun to see where Rod ends up. I used to interrupt him and interject a lot. I'm really trying not to this year. Thank you for your feedback.

Thanks for the reaction. "Set the World On Fire" (Lyrics - Asami / Music - Miyako) original song by LOVEBITES. Slash and Kennedy have a song called "World On Fire". There is a difference in the title.🤭 But there is a Swedish musician Ericsson (E-Type) who wrote the song "Set the World On Fire", but it's a different song, in the style of "disco". As they say, feel the difference.🙃 Often different bands have songs with the same title. But at the same time, the songs are completely different in lyrics and music. And they are all-female.🤗 - British all-female punk band LOVE BITES was formed 15-17 years ago and named after the song "Love Bites" by DEF LEPPARD. The band lasted several years and broke up. Then the band was not heard for 10-12 years. A few years ago, this band announced that they were going to re-establish themselves. - Just as little is known about the Japanese all-female punk band LOVE BITES. They recorded their first album only in 2022. - About the Japanese heavy metal band LOVEBITES, to the song of which you made a reaction, I can say that this is a Phenomenon💥 in the World of Metal. If you pay more attention to this band, you will understand what I mean. Suffice it to say that in 2018 LOVEBITES received the prestigious GOLDEN GODS Metal Hammer Award (London). They received it less than 2 years after their formation. LOVEBITES third studio album "Electric Pentagram" (2020) was included in the Top 20 Best Metal Albums of 2020 by Metal Hammer. You will find parts of their music that have some sound of their influences but eventually you will just come to realize they sound like Lovebites. They bring back the Old Thrash, Power Metal, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, Some hair band and more and intertwine it into Modern Metal. One of the few band's I can honestly say haven't written a bad song. One Hell of a Rabbit hole to go down but you'll enjoy it, They just simply can't be beat.

We do that intentionally. We do no research on the first reaction so we don’t know what to expect. Once we do the first reaction, we’ll do more research for subsequent reactions.

The members of Wolfpack(Fan club) highly recommend live videos. LOVEBITES is better with live videos than with music videos. In our experience, live videos outside of LOVEBITES have often not been as reproducible as music videos. However, since the release of the album, the girls have practiced and improved on some of the songs, and have recreated songs that would be impossible to recreate in a live performance. All are tight performances. There are many others, which we have included below. Please watch at your leisure. P.S. Halestorm has the song "Love bites", and Lovebites took only the name of this song. "Set the World On Fire" is completely their own song. I know only "Eagle fly free" Helloween that Lovebites covered. By the way, all Lovebites songs are different but all of them are awesome! You should watch more their live videos. I suggest you the songs "Holy war" from their own KZread channel and "Break the wall" form the LB_WOLFPACK channel if you want a heavy song. Whoa. Whoa. We figured it out early into the song. I had Rod muted though. One thing I thing to do is not to research the band until we do the first reaction. That way we know as much as if one of our friends took us to a concert, but we didn’t really know who the band was. If we did a bunch of research beforehand, we would know what to expect and our first reaction wouldn’t feel as genuine. Now that the floodgates have opened, we can research them more.

You guys are way too focused on Halestorm here. LOVEBITES named themselves after the song, they covered the song for a live recording, and vocalist Asami has performed that song with Halestorm. That's where it ends. LOVEBITES is not a Halestorm cover/tribute band and nothing in "Set the World on Fire" or any of their songs is from Halestorm. Miyako's guitar is a Dean, a company named after its founder, Dean Zelinsky. Dean Martin was an old school pop singer (and _that's_ an oversimplification if I've ever typed one) that was often associated with Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack as well as Jerry Lewis. Miyako's guitar here is a Switchblade ML, but it's not a Dimebag signature. As for her pedals, the one she's using at the end is either the Dunlop John Petrucci signature wah or her DigiTech Whammy pedal. I've seen this full show enough times to see both on her board.

I was just repeating what the person who requested the song said. It was our first LOVEBITES reaction. We go into our first reactions with no info. I think trying to figure out the connection is pretty harmless, and other commenters were nice in their corrections. Rod figured it out during the song, but I had him muted so y’all weren’t able to hear him. It’s doubtful we’ll mention Halestorm again, although I may for S&G. 😉
