Grunge never took hold of Japan so Heavy Metal and Hard Rock never left. You're witnessing a golden renaissance in J-Metal and J-Rock that has been growing internationally for the last 14-18 years. Especially the all-female bands which Japan has the most in number and per capita than any nation. There are hundreds of all-female Japanese bands in many genres. Not to takeaway from the good and great Japanese male dominant bands but people tend to take more notice to the women.

This June I'm going to do something I've never done before: follow a band round their tour! Got tickets to four of their gigs in Europe. All four tickets were criminally cheap for such elite musicians, and the venues where they will be playing are also ridiculously small for such an amazing band. It's great for the audience, as we'll be able to see and hear them really close. I'm sure it will be a fantastic experience! But it does feel a bit odd as Lovebites deserve so much better. And as soon as two other Japanese bands - Band-Maid and Nemophila - should come anywhere near to where I live, I'll be there too! (Nemophila is currently going through some troubled waters as one of their members has just left, but I'm sure they will be able to overcome this setback and continue to kick ass. As Lovebites does with Fami, who replaced Miho.)

"of our lifetime"? With all due respect: I even think that they play the best Metal _in music history_ . And I am not even getting emotional on this. I mean: They perform _everything_ you possibly can within the Metal genre. Asami can even _growl_ ("Dissonance", studio recording), Haruna is an unstoppable and precise top speed drummer, and take into account the _iconic_ "M&M" dual-shredding passages... And every one of these ladies is able to play at least one intrument (Miyako even plays _four_ - piano, guitar, bass, drums), and they all _can sing_ . Therefore, Lovebites i.m.h.o. is the most _skilled_ Metal band in _music history_ . No other Metal band unites so much creativity and so many individual skills - as far as I know.

Thank you for coming back to Lovebites. The Japanese girl bands are saving metal, and Lovebites are at the apex. Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She is self-taught on the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iXac1tOgmburcZc.html.

@@1970Phoenix For Break the Wall, the instrumentals are good, but the vocals are lacking. Because of this, it might not hold the same appeal for some. Although, it still depends on the reactor. From the first two songs, ultimately my comparison would go like: Set the World on Fire > Holy War > Break the Wall. So to me, that would be a decline in the watch order (particularly because of the vocals). Obviously, people have their own opinions.

Nice reaction...here's a sub! Japan is where it's at right now for rock and metal. The bassist in this video, Miho, left the band a couple years ago. They took a hiatus, two of them had babies, and they went through a long audition process which resulted in the hiring of Fami as the new bassist. At 21 years old, she is about 10 years younger than the rest of the band, and is something of a prodigy. Any songs suggested from Judgement Day and Knocking at Heaven's Gate I or II will be with Fami. The dark-haired guitarist, Miyako, is also a concert-level classical pianist and brings a classical influence into her compositions. Lovebites don't have a bad song, so you really can't go wrong. I could suggest 30 other fantastic Japanese and Korean bands but long lists are boring to read :) Just know you are on the precipice of a rabbit hole that you will not want to find your way out of for a very long time! Try Band-Maid, Nemophila, and Hanabie for starters.

Im a kid of the Woodstock generation and listened to Hendrix-Zeppelin-Who-Cream over and over {and luckily saw them all} and many other groups that ALL had kickass guitarists as well. I have heard and listened to some great groups since then but have never played a group this much over and over in MANY years. This might seem like hyperbole but they have a super group edge to them with the talent everywhere. I hear they are coming to the US-hope to see then sometime.

@@user-ho6qk6xx7r It's too long to fit in one comment, so here it is in a few pieces: Japan has had an active all-girl rock and metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in eight cases, mixed gender) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have tried to pick clips that are high quality and are representative of the band's style. If you put the question out there, you are likely to get suggestions mainly for Aldious, Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus and Wagakki Band. (If you area long-time listener or reviewer you have undoubtedly heard many of these). You can’t go wrong with any of them, but find time to check out more of the bands on this list. They are all worth the time and deserve the love, and many will really surprise you. My personal favorites include Asterism, Bridear, Doll$Boxx/Gacharic Spin, existTtrace, Hagane, Hanabie, Mary’s Blood, Sokoninaru and Tricot. Ok, the list: Show-Ya (1981) The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring. Did a 14 city US tour in 2022 that sold out 48 hours after being listed, and a 2023 global 10th anniversary tour. So many great Metal and rock bands in Japan and lots of variety - Hanabie (metalcore / nu metal with elements of punk, hip hop and electronica), Glim Spanky (essentially blues rock, the vocalist Remi can sound awfully like Janis Joplin and they have covered some of her songs) and then my favourite progressive rock band, Band Maid (pretty much all sorts of rock from ballads to hard rock bordering on metal) as has been mentioned elsewhere Hate? live is the current goto song as a start.

Miho left for personal reasons toward the end of 2021 and the band went on hiatus for nearly 2 years until after a world wide search they recruited a new bass player in the form of 20 year old Fami. They played the first gig with Fami in Tokyo, March 2023 and this year are doing a tour of Europe kicking off in London in June and will play their first gig in the USA later in the year. If you like high energy songs, try Thunder Vengeance.

Arguably the "BIG 4" of Japan are Baby Metal, Lovebites, Band Maid, and Nemophila! I highly recommend diving head first into the rabbit hole for all 4, it'll be the musical ride of your life!
