You are correct about Asami's singing. English is obviously not her first language, and so it can be difficult to understand her. When I first started listening to Lovebites, I considered this a "weakness". But now, I love Asami's singing and I couldn't imagine Lovebites with a different vocalist. And also, there are plenty of hard rock/metal bands who have a native English speaking singer who can also be hard to understand.

This is true. Some of the English speaking metal singers need close captions to understand their English lyrics.

Asami is also getting better with her accent over time, more recent performances have better accent I think.

Bare in mind that Eddie Van Halen played the guitar riff on Jacksons Beat It and Jennifer Batten played the guitar part on tour with Jackson. I believe that both have been an influence on Miyako of LOVEBITES and they quite often incorporate such bits in their songs in homage to those who've gone before.

Yes, it’s difficult to follow her sometimes, but the band wanted an English speaker to sing the songs because it was English and European bands that inspired the formation of the band. They actually regard her voice as another instrument. Asami formerly sang RnB and jazz, and I find two thing’s amazing. Firstly, there is no resemblance between Japanese and any other language, even Korean. That she can sing with such excellent enunciation in a foreign language AND remember an absolute torrent of lyrics (ED is atypical of the average Lovebites song, they cram in an above average word count). I know you weren’t criticising, but as self appointed world number one Asami fan I am duty bound to defend her honour. Strongly recommend the other E songs, which are from the same gig (lucky audience). One of them, Edge of the World also has a “stolen” riff, but as a huge fan of the band they “borrowed” it from, I hadn’t spotted it. That said, I think it’s *similar* but not the same, and is a transition (as is the original).

LOVEBITES - Empty Daydream lyrics: Memories I can’t erase still haunting me Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes Falling down Breaking heart A growing addiction Just let me go away Just let me go my way Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control I’m losing sight of me I’m losing sight of you I’m losing sanity and I don’t know how I will go on Nothing new, pretending not to know the truth Rendezvous, without emotion or heart I won’t show how weak and sad I am inside Even though I know it’s just silly pride Empty room Endless rain The end of a daydream You never call my name You never feel the same You never make me feel like I deserve any love I’m waiting for the dawn I’m waiting for the time I’m waiting for my bleeding heart to heal, so I can go on SOLO: miyako / midori / miyako / both Memories I can’t erase still haunting me Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes Falling down Breaking heart A growing addiction Empty room Endless rain The end of a daydream Just let me go away Just let me go my way Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control I’m losing sight of me I’m losing sight of you I’m losing sanity and I don’t know how I will… You never call my name You never feel the same You never make me feel like I deserve any love I’m waiting for the dawn I’m waiting for the time I’m waiting for my bleeding heart to heal, so I can go on ----- lyrics: asami music: miyako arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami) from Clockwork Immortality 2018

Thanks for coming back to these ladies 🐺!! I know it’s ‘hard for you to understand, being, it’s not her primary language! But I as kept listening, I’ve grown accustomed to her! They say, it’s the emotion in the song that matters!! There a lot of western metal bands where it’s hard to understand the vocals, or lyrics, but don’t hold this against them ! Please react to FROZEN SERENADE,live!!

Yeah that is certainly inspired by it. Miyako, the guitar player with black hair, grew listening MJ among other bands from the 80s, that were her mums favorites. Recently she mentioned Jennifer Batten as one of her favorite guitar players and she has some videos on her instagram playing Beat It. So yeah, certainly inspired by that song. You caught it really quick.

I was very happy to see that you liked this performance after giving Lovebites another chance. It was very observant to detect that Beat It influence, not too many people picked up on that. Miyako, the pianist, is classically trained and has been playing piano as a child prodigy since age 3. She is also a composer and arranges many of their song. If you’d like to see her play one of classical music’s most difficult piano piece by Frederic Chopin, then consider sometime checking out their performance of “Swan Song with Chopin Intro” where they blend a classical piano piece into one of their masterpieces. Thanks for the shout out, you just gained the Cowboy as anew subscriber.❤😊❤😊

Absolutely stunning song about (emotionally) dysfunctional couples or marriages. Extremely hard to put into words, bravely sung by a non-native speaker (Asami), masterly transformed into music and lyrics, in my opinion. 🐺

I love this song. I love all of their songs honestly (lol), but the "E" songs are great. For the lyrics, it really helps to listen to the song once, just to enjoy it first, then read the lyrics, then listen to it again (maybe with the lyrics handy). You'll learn her accent pretty quick that way, and then you'll usually hear most of the words in other songs they do. I don't know if it came up in the comments from other videos, but they wear all white and sing only positive lyrics, to show that metal doesn't have to be black and dark. They have some really great lyrics. Highly recommended to check them out.

Thought it was a great react, knowing your not huge metal fans. This is one of their softer, more melodic songs so a good choice. Believe Miyako (pianist / guitarist), named Jen Batten as one of her influences, and she played on MJs BAD tour. Could be wrong though. 1 of 3 down, 2 to go! 😀 Again, great song selection. Love these ladies! 🤘🐺 Song you may like Swan Song w/Chopin intro. Features Miyako on piano again. An amazing song.

The band is amazing because they were brave enough to singing all their song in english.. At least, you can understand some of what she said.. If they're sing in Japanese, you must be had no idea what are they singing about.. That's why you should put the lyrics/subtitle on of you really want to understand the lyrics.. It's not like you have to memorize all lyrics of the song, but just some of it.. So, reading the lyrics is better than saying "I don't understand what she's saying".

I just listened to Beat It again after you said that about the riff, and I don't know, there's a similarity, but really not a very close one. The rhythm is similar (but faster in Lovebites), the melody only in the first two or three notes; I couldn't even say that any similarity wasn't a coincidence. There's a common, shall we say, disco or soul influence in both songs, that much is obvious. On Asami's accent, yes, it is strong. The Japanese and English phonological systems are not well compatible, so any accent a speaker of one language has in the other is bound to be strong. Curiously, her accent when she speaks English or sings in the studio is strong, but nothing as strong as when she sings live; I guess the live situation takes its toll. Being German, I have always considered English lyrics to be an actual burden on the English-native listener: you poor souls, you *have* to understand everything, even bad lyrics (not referring to this song). Seeing how execrable German song lyrics often are, I'm actually glad that I can zone out the lyrics when listening to English-language songs.
