Great reaction to this comedy classic with legendary Jim Varney as Ernest P. Worrell. I hope you do more Ernest films on your channel. They made several Ernest movies, TV shows & specials as well as Direct-To-Video features. They are... *Hey Vern, It's My Family Album (1983) (TV Special) *Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam (Ernest makes a cameo in this film) (1985) (TV Movie) *Ernest Goes to Camp (1987) (1st big Theatrical Film) (great for summertime fun) *Ernest Saves Christmas (1988) (Theatrical Film) (great for Christmas time) *Hey Vern, It's Ernest! (1988-1989) (Kids Saturday morning TV series only lasting for one season) *Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain (1989) (TV Special) *Ernest Goes to Jail (1990) (Theatrical Film) *Ernest Scared Stupid (1991) (Theatrical Film) (great for Halloween time) *Ernest's Greatest Hits (1992) (Two-volume compilation of Ernest TV commercials throughout the 80s & 90s, with bloopers & outakes) (Direct-To-Video) *Ernest Rides Again (1993) (last Theatrical Film) *Ernest Goes to School (1994) (Direct-To-Video Film) *Your World As I See It (1994) (TV Special) (Ernest & his family do various skits and mini parodies) *Slam Dunk Ernest (1995) (Direct-To-Video Film) *Ernest Goes to Africa (1997) (Direct-To-Video Film) *Ernest in the Army (1998) (Direct-To-Video Film) (very last Ernest film) There were various story ideas for future Ernest movies & TV specials - such as Ernest The Bellhop (Ernest was to work at a big fancy hotel & shenanigans would ensue due to his bumbling ways), Ernest Takes a Cruise to Paradise (Ernest would win a cruise vacation to a Caribbean island only to get stranded there), Ernest Goes to Europe (which would have seen Ernest visiting various countries & their famous locations/landmarks), Ernest Visits the UK, Ernest Goes to Japan, Ernest Goes to China, Ernest Goes Australian, Ernest Goes to Hollywood (this would have been a parody within a parody as a big Hollywood film company was going to be making a movie about Ernest with Ernest playing himself), Ernest Takes a Vacation (sort of a National Lampoon's style road trip movie with Ernest), Olympic Sized Ernest (Ernest joins & competes in the Olympics), Ernest and the Voodoo Curse (Ernest would have been would have been working for archaeologist in a remote location only to have all his companions be turned into zombies requireing Ernest to save them all)...but none of these went beyond generalized ideas or basic story treatments. Unfortunately no full scripts were ever actually written of these titles. However (around 1998 into 1999), there almost was one more Ernest film & it came very very close to being made. Jim Varney was actively developing (with longtime collaborators Coke Sams & John R. Cherry III) another Ernest film titled 'Ernest Spaced Out' to be released sometime in later 1999 & would have seen Ernest join NASA, become an astronaut to visit The International Space Station only to get lost in space & crash into Dr. Otto's (also to be played by Jim Varney) secret hidden astroid base. Ernest would have discovered Dr. Otto plan to destory the Earth & with the help of some alien friends that he was to meet along the way, they would all work together to foil Dr. Otto plan, save the planet and the rest of the galaxy....This film treatment got as far as several full drafts of screenplays written and was almost greenlit to be put into production, however Jim Varney's lung cancer that he was fighting at the time unfortunately got the best of him and he became too sick to continue acting or to any of the physical slapstick required to make the film. Jim Varney sadly passed away on February 10th, 2000. RIP 😢

Childhood classic right here. He was an amazing actor and I love his Ernest movies. Especially Ernest scared stupid. But his movies are legend and funny every single one of them.

My parents introduce Ernest when me and my siblings were kids. I didnt find it funny at all, but i love the feel of them, every now and then i get a little chuckle. My first Ernst movie, very nostalgic, Ernest goes to Africa. Every year my brother watches this Camp one, before and after camp and it became a tridition that we do. Then we go watch the other Ernest movies. Fun stuff, good times. Jim passed away from smoking and the sad song gets to you even more. He's such a awesome character and person and deserves respect and love as the next person, maybe even more. Made impact on us as kids and in adult life too. ❤

If you don't do another Ernest movie you have to at least do Ernest saves Christmas. Santa Claus is actually in this one. That's worth the price of admission right there. Jim was a classically trained Shakespearian actor. His Ernest character in commercials just took off and the rest is history. Jim is also good as Jed Clampett in the Beverly Hillbillies movie

Gailard Sartain who plays Jake got his big break in Hee Haw in 72. He also is the bumbling cop in Hollywood knights. The foreman was Lyle Alzado, one of the most feared defensive ends ever in the NFL

Ernest (Jim) used to do tv commercials with Vern (camera guy), so the movies are the expansion of that, just without Vern (but using the camera the same way in parts). HEY VERN! HEY ERNEST! I think Jim was a theater actor originally.

The FUNNIEST part in the WHOLE movie was when he looked in the toilet that was SOILED and in DISGUST ERNEST says "EEÈEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW 🤣‼️"

My dad rented this for us in the 80s. I remember being really sad about how those kids treated Ernest. Jim Varney was a commercial guy who went national as Ernest. Ernest Saves Christmas and Ernest Scared Stupid could be fun watches.

I think you would probably enjoy Ernest goes jail more than some of the others. It's still pretty goofy, just like all of the Ernest movies. However, it does work better for the older generations.

@FlixTalk One of Jim Varney's movies that came out a few years before Ernest goes to camp was Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam. It's been a while since I've seen but I think the Dr. Otto character appears in the series Hey! Vern It's Ernest.

Jim started as Ernest in commercials the 70s for an abandoned amusement park…then Carden & Cherry saw potential with the character & got into the commercials then Touchstone saw potential & wanted 5 movies…but Scared Stupid did terrible so that ended ties….then 6 straight to video movies were released… Jim was also Slinky Dog from Toy Story 1 & 2, Cookie from Atlantis the Lost Empire, Jed Clampet from The Beverly Hillbillies movie, & Evan from The Rousters…he was also on Hee-Haw & Celebrity Circus with Disney…Disney saw how Ernest got popular at a parade & contacted for a movie deal…Jim passed away from Lung Cancer in 2000, God Bless Him & he was also a Shakespearean actor with a IQ that he remembered lines just by one read through…& he would tell so many stories too…great man Btw, this movie was supposed to have Ernest & St. Cloud as a couple in the original script…was cut cuz the whole gimmick is Ernest doesn’t get the woman but saves the day…& during the fight scene, you hear a slight crack & Ernest actually got his nose broken…the blood from his nose is real, not fake…but the rest of the makeup is fake…in some of the final battle ending scenes you can even see the director as part of the mining crew…

Ernest was/is a big influence on my own sense of humor. I know lots of people always point to this film as the best Ernest movie, I'm not gonna argue that, but I also really enjoy Ernest Scared Stupid and Ernest Saves Christmas. The latter being the one I watched most as a kid.

this is why people that were kids in the late 80's and 90's grew up to be the best people we are in between kids from the 70's and early 80's and millenials we grew up with some of the best shows every created like ernest reading rainbow dinosaurs the best movies we watched all the hits on tv and the wackiest ones on sci fi like killer klowns from outerspace misquitos tremors we had the greatest cartoons like animaniacs darkwing duck spin tales johnny quest scooby doo we still had the golden age of cartoons to watch too before they all got burned up all the best bug bunny's and marvin the martian got too watch peppi la pew before it got censored we had beavis and butthead daria ren and stimpy and some other crazy ass shows on mtv when it was still good . we were the true golden age of shows and things to watch on tv when remotes were coming into play and on screen tv guides no longer were the days of having to rotate the dial on the tv sega genesis and cable tv so you could get THE SEGA CHANNEL man the 90's were the greatest years ever to be a kid. some of us had internet but it sucked anytime a call came it kicked you off line your siblings could kick you off on purpose by calling someone it took FOREVER to load pages so it was only ever used as a place to look up information for something like school work or maybe a game guide but if you were luck enough to have a printer it would take AGES to print the shit off and you better hope the holes were aligning good on the printer paper at your friends house.
