@@lt6245 yeah, but that doesn't mean they started it..and if I'm not mistaken mother love bone and alice were signed the same year to a major 1989. Soundarden beat them couple of months. They were somewhat huge in the underground scene

Mmmmm, they didn't start "grunge". They have even said that they hate being called that. They came out in the mid 80's when the fad of "grunge" wasn't even a thing. they got lumped in b/c they were from Seattle but they weren't grunge.

This is seriously your first time time hearing this band? Wow what a song to start on. Such range. This singer is nothing but LEGEND. He even did a Timbaland album. He was in Audioslave too, which is basically Rage Against the Machine plus him. My recommendations: 1: First and foremost "Rusty Cage" 2: "Black Hole Sun" probably their biggest hit, with a music video so popular even Family Guy poked fun at it. 3: "Spoonman" because it is just fun. But there are many others, and these are the basics. You reacted to a good one though.

Soundgarden was a true rock band, and a legendary one at that. This shit is timeless. Best of all the Seattle bands during that time IMO...and that's saying a lot.

The last song they ever played live…. It was usually their closing song. I swear to God, I saw them in Tuscaloosa 2 weeks before CC died. I was staying in Birmingham and two hours after the show I was STILL feeling the reverb and feedback from this song. It was GLORIOUS!

Grunge began by mixing hard rock, punk music, guitar distortion & feedback which made a dirtier sound which took metal to another level.. Grunge made you feel some kinda way that Glam couldn't and I loved some of the Glam Metal.. The heavy makeup, spandex, and hairsprayed bands were going out of style and we were ripe for a heavier change. .God Bless Grunge!

Yes this band is Grunge , one of the best ever.

I sang this song in a cover band. That is, every other gig we did so I could recover from the throat attack that this gives. Worth it, but painful.

@@brandonstandberry8236 Cornell had the ability to get dark and smoky and then scale the highest peaks with his voice. He could handle almost any genre. He also played drums and guitar, and wrote the melodies and lyrics for Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and his solo work, and made major contributions to Audioslave.

I would say that Soundgarden are metal for their earlier stuff and Psychedelic and hard rock from Superunknown and forward (with some exceptions, like 4th of July). Grunge wasn’t really a music style, more of a label for bands from that era and from Seattle, even though some non-Seattle bands are often considered Grunge, like Stone Temple Pilots. Like if you take Nirvana and compare it to Soundgarden you have two pretty different music styles, since Nirvana is more punk-like.

I mean it's not grunge just because it was a band from Seattle in the 90s, ABBA wouldn't have been a grunge band if they were a 90s band from seattle lol neither would Iron Maiden. There are definitely musical characteristics for grunge, they're usually slower with a more dark atmosphere Smells Like Teen Spirit is arguably one of the least grunge-y songs Nirvana ever made

Slaves is like the stairway to heaven of our generation - cornell was the greatest singer songwriter of our generation - this song is too heavy for you - you would get slammed in the pit back in the day.. mofos went in high gear for this song...
