Love That Lasts: How To Be Complete

Love - it’s a topic that carries a lot of weight in our culture, especially around holidays like Valentine’s Day. Everyone wants to be loved, and rightfully so; it’s how we were created by a loving God. Love is part of who we are, and there’s nothing wrong with desiring to love and be loved, but before we can fully give ourselves to someone else in a loving way, we have to consider the first step - being complete in Christ. This Sunday, Pastors Rich and DawnCheré Wilkerson started a two-week collection of talks on love called “Love that Lasts: How To Be Complete.” They remind us that if we don’t allow God to fix the holes in our life, we’ll never be able to give anything to anyone else. No matter how hard we try, no one else will ever be able to fix those holes for us; it has to come from completion in Christ. Before we project unrealistic standards onto someone else, we have to take time to allow God to remove certain things from our lives, repair the brokenness we may have, and refill us daily with Himself. These are the steps that prepare us for relationship, and help us to become secure, healthy individuals that create secure, healthy relationships.

This message hits home for me. I was so broken that I didn’t even realize it. I hurt my husband of 7 years in a way I never thought I would. I almost ruined my marriage. I threw everything away because I didn’t know my identity in Christ. I filled it with things, built a house of cards, but it came crashing down. I’m happy to say that a year later, my husband and I are stronger than ever. He has forgiven me and loves me unconditionally. God placed him in my life for this very reason. He knew what we were going to go through and I am blessed to have a man of God that helped me through it. He stood by my side when I didn’t deserve it. He himself was hurting so badly but continued to show love. God has been faithful to us. Where we are now is because of God’s grace. Thank you for your encouragement and guidance. Love all the way from Washington state.

Don’t take singleness for granted. Don’t forget that some of the coolest guys in the Bible were single. Daniel and Jeremiah and they had more opportunities to do more for the Lord since they were single. I hate being single too, but maybe that is your purpose. You have NOTHING to fear when you realize that the Lord Jesus Christ is the author of your life and He has your path and your purpose and plan. So be ready for Gods relationship, and see what He can do.

:( I’m sorry you feel that way. The enemy loves to lie to you, you’re a man of God. So the enemy will attack you harder. Remember who God says you are. That’s what makes us attractive, who God makes us to be. I always feel ugly, but I have to stay close to God to see myself as he sees me.
