The Dev Suraiya love ended as a great agony to their fans as well as themselves. Their platonic love was sublime chaste & eternal. The narrow minded fundamentalist family of Suraiya wanted Dev To convert muslim which Dturned down out-rightly. Suraiya sacrificed & pledged not to marry & lead her life in his sweet memories. I have read she had a full size wall photograph of Devanand in her bedroom. Today both these legends & lovers are no more with us. Let their souls rest in eternal peace.

nigar is looking so much better than the other episodes. Even her expressions are much better than the other episodes. Definitely Guru dutt and waheeda would be a good episode

Tears dropped watching this. Had Surayya showed a little more courage Dev would have married her. The important link missed here is that is SD Burman's part in it. He had arranged their elopement,but Surayya did't turned up and it was then and there the final nail was placed on their coffin of love. Nex thing what we heard was that Dev married Kalpana. Did Dev visit her when she was hospitalised before her death,or did Dev attended her funeral. " Devina" that neme hurts me.

Please do not try to communalise this episode of the people who have gone. Dev had a number of Muslim fans and friends. Recently I was reading an article written by Ishtiaq Ahmad, a Professor who belongs to Lahore, Pakistan, he is a great fan of Dev Anand. Google it you will find it. To be fair, the only thing which I feel about this love affair is that Suraiya was a better lover than Dev. Her sacrifice was supreme. People would love to see a movie made on their romance.

Heart rending real-life love story more interesting than the reel life

Suraiya gets more respect and honor than even Devanand here in their real-life love story. She proved herself not merely a good actress and singer but a noble lady too.

What a touching story but I think you cannot blame suriaya entirely.In those days inter religious marriages were frowned upon by society in general and parents in particular.It was very difficult to be absolutely brave and turn down the pleas of your family and friends.The pressure and fear was insurmountable for the girl . Under those conditions I cannot say that Suriaya was entirely to blame.Now at least maybe the two lovers are together at last.I certainly hope so.

Yes I am a muslim from the most conservative region: Bajaur near Afghanistan border. I have two close friends, one a Hindu and the other a Christian. I see heaven written on their foreheads. They are the best human beings I have ever met. Prakash has done more for the poor in India then anybody else, ever. He must have delivered more than 100 million Rs for the schools for the poor. Big deal. So what if the man converts to another religion. God is not changed. He is the same God. Religions are man made. I do not think Suriyya ever prayed or went to the mosque. I do not think Dev cared about relgion. The most important religion is to be a good human being, then muslim or hindu or whatever. It is time we started believing in the true relgion: to be good human beings.

Suraiya's nani was the culprit. To take away her granddaughter's right to get married was the meanest thing that she could do to a child of one's own house. Dev was lucky he did not end up with nani as an in-law. Regressive.

The unfortunate love story of the two handsomest pair still reads like a great romantic tragedy. The pair had they got married would have given the world the most beautiful offspring. The two greats of Indian Cinema Dev and Dilip failed in their love. Dev lost Suraiya and Dilip Madhubala. For one her nany and and for other it was her father. I don't blame Dev but I also don't approve his marriage with Kalpana Karthik who is a poor replacement for Suraiya. Dev might have married her to save his career. Suraiya however continued to be Dev's dream girl. The rose Dev used to send to Suraiya every year on her birthday stands a witness to their infatuated love they shared in silence . The complain made against Dev that he did not attend her funeral is rubbish .Dev as a lover was not an extrovert. But he knew what the pain was within him. Unfortunately no reporter went to Dev and asked about his reaction. Only a true lover knows what the pain is.

Suraiya's naani was communal but Dev was a very liberal man. He was a rational thinking man and was not a typical blind follower of Hinduism. He did not consult astrologers and performed Muhurats of his films as is done by most of the filmvalas. he simply believed in the philosophy of karma. He was non smoker and occasional drinker. Dev may have some plutonic relationships but womaniser he was not. Two of his contemporaries were more of womanisers and drinkers of their times.

Dev was a serial drowner. First he try to drown Suriayya and then rescue her to get her. Then he did the same to Kalpana Kartak. Dev was not a mans man. Pretty face and feminine looking. Why any real woman would fall in love with a fairy. Unfortunately, in the subcontinent people think pretty men are handsome. Most pretty faces are vuses. Dilip Kumar was the biggest vus. He let go Madhubala because her fathey was against their love. Poor vus. He gave up his real love and a beauty so easily.

you are exactly right, in my opinion he is not a Actor, he is a womanizer and comedian, what a stupid person he i, when i was 13 years old i was a Dev Anand favourite , and when i left India at the age of 21 for Higher education in England, i have realized that i am a very stupid to be fan of that stupid Comedian, the real Actor is Dilip Kumar, and that is why i love Dilip Kumar so much.Suraiya must be very fool to select DevAnand as a lover.there is no match between them, Suraiya in my opinion 2nd most beautiful woman after Madhubala.i love them both.
