    If you change your plug wires you have to go with the HD wires. They are the only ones (I know of) that are compatible with the ion sensor in the electronic ignition

    I had the Mighty Mites on my 2012 Street Glide until one of the fans burned out 2 years ago. I loved them while they worked. I now have a 2019 Tri Glide that is twin cooled and came with a fan mounted behind the jugs. I will consider them in the future.

    Congratulations on the upgrade, sir, I do want to stay through that the love Jugs will still be hugely beneficial on that motorcycle. The fan that is mounted behind the engine between your legs. It’s pretty much useless, it doesn’t actually cool the engine it was just designed to pull the pocket of hot air away from your leg, so it does add a little bit to rider comfort, but it doesn’t fix the overheating problem. The twin cooled system can’t always keep up because it has such a small amount of coolant so the Lovejugs make it so much more efficient. They work great in conjunction together.

    Amsoil A., With a dual-cooled M8 the area you're covering is already pretty well handled by the water pump system. My Road Glide easily stays under 200 degrees even when the fans in the lowers are called-on. Engine temp, however runs between 245 and 285. Wouldn't it really do more good on these engines to locate the fans a bit lower to assist natural airflow over the cylinder fins?

  • @amsoiladam

    @amsoiladam

    2 жыл бұрын

    Allen, I can agree with you in Theory, The dual cool system does have its benefits however the limited capacity of coolant that is used to cool only the heads isn’t enough in all situations. Yes it does help in minor stop and go traffic, but let’s look at this realistically. Harley Davidson took an engine that was designed to be an air cooled engine, then added some cooling passages into the head to run water through. Hence the “dual cool”. It is not a true liquid cooled engine. It is an air cooled engine at heart. Adding the Lovejugs even on the dual cooled engine makes a huge difference. Many of our customers say that adding the Love Jugs to their dual cooled engine keeps the engine cool enough that the radiator fans very rarely ever even turn on. Lowering the fans believe it or not wouldn’t help as much as you would think. Lovejugs are directing the volume of air right at the combustion chamber. This is where the heat is actually created at the source. If we keep that area as cool as possible it minimizes the heat transfer to the rest of the engine. Many people suggest to us to put fans here and there and change positioning in one way or another, but the truth is we have thousands of hours into research and development into the proper placement of our product. We have tested things that we even knew wouldn’t work to start with just to verify that they wouldn’t work. Our end product is the absolute best they can possibly be with science and data to back it up and prove it.

    Hey Adam, it was nice meeting you in New Hampshire. I am one of thousands I am sure. Anyway, I have an 11 Ultra. What options do I have to power the Love Jugs OTHER than the ACC line? I ask for two reasons; 1. Don't I want the LJ running at all times? The ACC is a switch on the dash, which would then need to be on at all times, no? I would prefer to hard-wire the LJugs, especially if their going to be running all the the time. 2, I might want something else wired to the ACC switch, although I don't know what yet. Oh, and what's that primary oil for tourers that John from CycleFanatix picked up? I wanted to give that a go.

  • @amsoiladam

    @amsoiladam

    2 жыл бұрын

    The primary fluid is simply labeled “Primary fluid”, and he used for 75 /140 severe gear in the transmission. In most cases on your motorcycle we just plug into the accessory plug under your seat. The way the Lovejugs are currently wired the switch on your dash will activate them. If you do not want that switch on the dash to activate them there is another wire in that plug that is key on only power but not through the dash switch. All you have to do is move the red wire in the Lovejugs plug catty corner to facilitate that.

    Adam, been watching a lot of yuour videos, great content. I have a question, on a 22 Trike with the HD Coolflow fan (that sits behind the engine and pulls air away and down away from the engine), is there any benefit to also adding the Love Jugs? I'm just trying to maximize cooling.

  • @amsoiladam

    @amsoiladam

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes there’s a huge benefit. The Harley Davidson cool flow fan does not cool the engine it is simply there for rider comfort. Its purpose is to take the pocket of hot air that’s produced by the engine and move it away from you. I’m not saying this has zero effect on engine cooling but that’s not its purpose and it is not effective. Love Jugs focuses a massive amount of airflow strategically to where the source of the heat on the engine is. Carrying the heat away from the hottest parts of the engine keeps the engine running hundreds of degrees cooler at idle.

    2 questions 1. Do the fans run all the time or are you reading temperature from CAN bus or on older models with no CAN bus do you have a temperature probe to detect when to run fans? 2. How many CFMs do the models put out and what data can you share showing the effects?

  • @amsoiladam

    @amsoiladam

    Жыл бұрын

    We recommend that you run the fans whenever the engine is running. The more airflow you can provide the better the engine will run. My bike is not can bus so I have a manual, air cooled cylinder, head temperature sensor with a thermal coupler mounted below the spark plug base. This is the most accurate way to measure cylinder, head temperature and it does not lie to you like the OEM temperature sensor does. Figured you would ask for the CFM. No one has asked for that in so long I honestly don’t remember the answer. But it is more than sufficient to do the job. I can assure you that. And yes, eight years of running this motorcycle at idle I think it’s pretty good results.

  • @amsoiladam

    Actually, it is way more efficient to force the air at the heads. When trying to draw heat away from an item, you would have to shroud the entire engine in a box for the work and nobody would want to do that. That’s why radiators on cars have shrouds around the fans to force the air to come through the radiator rather than around it.

  • @amsoiladam

    Yes we’ve got more than 4000 hours of testing. But to keep it simple it’s common sense if you throw air at an air cooled motor it will run cooler than if you do not throw air at it plain and simple. If you watch any of my other KZread videos when we were at rally you will see that I allow my personal motorcycle to idol for anywhere between eight and 18 hours per day and it never overheats. There are too many downsides to thermostat switches in this application. One it does complicate the wiring and requires the use of a relay to do properly. They are very unreliable because the quality of what’s available just isn’t very good. And then the main reason I don’t like them is because it allows the engine to start to get hot and then it tries to cool it back down. It’s better to just not let it get that high.

    @@amsoiladam well, I’m not sure how they compare. Polished of course but after that, there are a few things for me to consider- which model performs best and which are the least uncomfortable as far as being in the way…and how to prioritize between those two factors. My biggest concern is the heat that comes up the right side when in traffic… now I know these install horn side, something else to note is that I have the Willie g skull horn cover (you can see my bike on my channel), but I image it cools both sides to an extent just being on the engine as a whole. But maybe the original is better at it than the cool master or mighty mites? But maybe the smaller mighty mites are less of an annoyance as far as being “in the way” while riding… sorry, guess I have questions lol. My bike is a 2014 Road King. It’s actually in your Laconia video for a second..black, chrome, and copper.

  • @amsoiladam

    @amsoiladam

    Жыл бұрын

    @@graybeardbiker the coolmaster is considered our most powerful and most durable version. And if your horn isn’t in your way, most likely, the Love Jugs won’t be either. We mount to the left side because that is where the spark plug enters the combustion chamber. That is the source of the heat. If you keep that area as well as the exhaust port, cool, it prevents excessive heat from traveling throughout the rest of the engine.
