The Power of Love: Exploring the Twists and Turns of Romance

Documentary exploring how the power of love transforms people's lives for both good and bad. Age old themes - first love, love at first sight, true love, love is blind - are explored through several different and remarkable stories, told by the protagonists themselves. The stories are brought to life through unusual filmic imagery and until the last possible moment, the viewer has no idea which story has a happy or a sad ending. Each different story unfolds bit by bit, showing the many different twists and turns the course of true, or indeed, false, love can take. You are left to muse about how people can be so certain of their love and wonder at the remarkable choices people make in the name of love.

Cel M I agree, although I think there's a certain disposition for that fear to make one completely blind to the obvious. I think it's quite sad, it seems more like the idea of abandonment in any romantic form is just too much for her, to the point she is willing to believe her delusion over her child.

Unfortunately some people are easy prey for grifters and narcissists. And "love" is the easiest way to get into their lives. Real love takes time. To a narcissist all their partner is a source of energy and maybe monetary supply. Once they get you hooked they show you who they really are. They only care about their feelings and your actions. Never your feelings and their actions. But I am glad to see one real love story that worked out on this. Good for them.

I think most people are delusional in their relationships. We all see what we want to see, not what is there or true about someone. So when someone gets involved with a con artist or dangerous criminal, it falls apart when their lies are revealed. People need to ask the tough questions and pay attention to their intuition or gut instincts about someone. Then walk the fk away as fast as you can if things go bad. TIme reveals a person's character. Just pay attention and you will see it. Just my opinion.

So you're blaming the victim not the offender. If you are targeted like that by someone who now knows everything about you and your family, and are in fear of your life you become so terrified and feel so hurt by what's happened your brain can go into total denial and detachment as a form of self defence. Sub consciously you blame yourself for inadvertently putting your families lives at risk and can't see a way out - even though he was behind bars all of their lives were still at risk. This denial is completely INVOLUNTARY and is recognised by psychologists the world over. We aren't taught enough about psychology and abuse. It should form a major part of science lessons if you ask me. I think her son had to protect his children so felt he had no choice but to keep a distance from her whilst she was still in denial. This is a tragic story which could have happened to anyone and my heart goes out to her and her family.

Wendy, please open your eyes before you end up deceased in your home, left for goodness knows how long before someone finds you in a really unpleasant state, thanks to the person you love! As a daughter myself, I can fully understand why your sons were unable to stay to watch you get hurt. And if you can't think of your sons, think of your grandchildren. Your sons cannot allow you access to your grandchildren while you're not willing to accept the reality of how dangerous your partner is! How do you think your grandchildren would cope if they got to know you & then your nutter of a partner decides to kill you?! But just as importantly, have enough self-respect to protect yourself! How can you not see that you deserve much better?! Please wake up! I wish I could just shake some sense into you!

The lady with the fake cop boyfriend: she was terribly naive and blind, but I get it, and I honestly felt a bit sorry for her. Good for her for getting smart in the end. The couple with the princess wife: what a lovely, lovely couple and family!❤️ they restored a bit of my faith in the world. I think their marriage is happy because they didn't rush into things. The older woman whose husband took out a hit on her: oh my, utterly delusional. She said her sons would have killed the dad, and this makes me think that they really know who their father is, and they've probably been seeing signs for years, while the lady has been willfully blind. Sad.

I think he's guilty but I sort of understand why she doesn't want to believe it. One things for sure when he gets out of prison he won't want her harmed because he knows he'll get the blame.

Attachment and love are not the same thing. But the western ideal of romantic love encourages this dangerous delusion. There's a lot less love around than we might want to believe! If you let go of childish idealisations of love, you will have more realistic expectations of yourself and others and will be able to be happier as a result.

We were chalk & cheese at that point . When we finally met up for real , we'd hammered out prior what we are happy to deal with and what are deal breakers . And we never looked back . My husband passed in 2015 ...I'm still destroyed but since the gods won't decree me to pass in order to join him , I've finally decided to carry on & try to rebuild my empire. I've no family whatsoever & it's not easy starting from scratch ... My husband still leaves coins in my way & signs that he still loves me ... Love never dies . P.S.
