The record company threw money at them, but , sadly no love . They squandered a truly talented band for purely commercial reasons . I worked with Bobby the bass player . He produced a single for my band The Painted Word ( U2 ,s Mother label ) , and indeed know James and Douglas , witnessed a lot of the early Glasgow gigs and they were just phenomenal , James is spot on about the ,so called record industry , happily now defunct due to GREED x x x

Totally agree with all the creditworthy opinions. James Grant has a gift for expressing mood through music and his intelligent lyricism is gifted in expressing the dynamics of relationship. Strange kind of love is an all time favourite of mine. Seen him several times and his solo work is unmatched in expressing the highs and lows of love with exceptional pathos.

Conor Mc Gowan I agree. I remember buying their debut album after seeing the video for Candybar Express. The funky bass lines and crunching guitars with the smooth vocals just works! Similar to another favorite band INXS, but more sophisticated. Curiosity Killed The Cat fits in the same pocket for me as well. The smooth sound of sophisticated pop with great production was unfortunately music to good for US radio and shamelessly fell by the way side. The British ear for music then was for wider and the world great bands like this one! Wish they were still here.

I saw them live in London when Strange Kind of Love came out and thought they were amazing. The album should’ve been massive. Comsat Angels was another band I loved who never really ‘made it.’ But the 80s and 90s were so much about image, luck and the discretion of record companies only interested in shifting units. Now it’s more democratic but probably harder to make money.

A great band... Strange kind of love CD is a must have. Don't have it? what are you waiting? There are not that many albums with almost all songs deserving to go in the top 10 1st places of the hit parade. (Which they did not achieved. Never understood why...). Great to have this live performance.
