One of the biggest wins in U of L history. I was in 1st grade at the time and after it was over I just knew U of L was going to win the national title. Memphis St. never really recovered from this game that year and lost in the 2nd round. I believe the Courier-Journal had a poll when U of L played its last game at Freedom Hall and this game was voted the #1 moment in Freedom Hall history.

I remember seeing this game. I went crazy after the win

I was too young to have remembered this game, but I knew about it. Just watched the ending for the first time and, I must say, it sure looked like Andre Turner got all ball on Milt Wagner on that final play.

How cool . . . I got tickets to the Metro Conference Tournament and watched this game live in Freedom Hall. But it's great to have a replay and re-live the great memories from that super season!

That Louisville PA guy was the best....5 starters from Memphisss Tennesseee.........this was a great game....I miss the Memphis-Louisville rivalry.

Attendance for the 1986 Metro Conference basketball Championship Game was a standing room only crowd of 19,452 fans.

i bet a memphis st fan $500 at McDonalds on Bardstown Rd next to The Toy Tiger ! Back then is was 15 and that was the spot to be in the early to mid 80s ! Showcase Cinemas ,Bashford Manor Mall, Toy Tiger .Wow yalk about great times anyway that Memphis St. fan never showed up to pay the 15 year old UofL fan ( me!) his money ! This game put us on a collision coarse with the National Championship that we would claim vs Duke another Blue and White victim for the Cards!

Keith Lee was like Kenyon Martin i couldnt wait for him to graduate i thought they were 6year seniors i thought for sure i would hear KL name! lol

As a life-long MEMPHIS fan ( I was nine-going-on-ten when this game was played… ) I miss these days of a classic rivalry game where BOTH teams respected each other and their style of play

Hahaha Jerry West must have liked what he seen even if he couldn’t hear. Drafted Thompson and a year latter signed Wagner

My Dad calls them "Memphis St." to this day.

Great game, forgot how good this Memphis St. team was, they easily could have made a National title run too. Clutch free throws by Milt, add these to the 2 he hit to seal the deal in the title game and 'Ice' suits him perfectly.

One individual that U of L just really missed that should have been the one to replace today Chrome it would have turned out a lot differently for us I guarantee it cuz he was definitely one of the best recruiters ever to hit the college game that was Wade Houston! Wade recruited young men for Louisville very athletic Louisville was never the same that way Houston if we would have had him and his boy we would have also had Rex Chapman he was real good friends with Allan Houston however it did not play out that way bummer deal

Wow! I'm glad UofL won, but that was a clean block at the end.

This was not metro conference tournament championship game this was last game of the season....

I still call them Memphis state. That 2005 cusa tournament game where they missed the free throws to beat UofL was my favorite.

My Dad does it because he hates Memphis. "They'll always be Memphis St. to me," he says.

This wasn’t the conference tourney. In the Metro conference finals, Louisville was losing and Coach Crum decided to foul. Problem was Memphis St couldn’t hit free throws, just like in the finals against Kansas in 2008. HahaaaaaI hated Keith Lee the way he played against Louisville. That year MEMPHIS ST got placed on probation

That last play was a bail out by the refs. That is why the Kentucky fans called this place Cheatem Hall.

Bad camera angle. I couldn't see if the trail man got him across the arm or if he got all ball, but they had Wagner in no man's land in that right corner.

Refs stole this game from Memphis. 1 second and they call that a foul. Horrific call!

Turner swiped all ball as he as flying by. Physically impossible to pull his arm behind his head as the video clearly shows.

I’ve been a Tigers fan since 72...he fouled him. Hit him on the wrist. We should have made the free throws before then. Game would have been over. It was a good call.
