    >> when has Trump been anti-putin? Many times! President Donald Trump agreed with @piersmorgan that Russian president Vladimir Putin is an "evil genocidal monster" "I do [agree]. Who wouldnt? [...] When you see rockets going into apartment buildings..." Trump also said: The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling. It's an outrage, and an atrocity that should never have been allowed to occur,” he said. “We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine, God bless them all.” Trump 🇺🇲 July 15, 2023: ... when Putin went into, ... and look, it's so sad to see, when he went into Ukraine, and he, you know, did what he did, he would never have done that in a million years, it wasn't going to happen, I used to talk to him, it [Ukraine] was the apple of his [Putin's] eye, I knew that, I knew him very well, I actually had a very good relationship with him. Everyone said that was horrible. Don't forget, I'm the one that closed down his pipeline, I'm the one that gave them the Javelins, you know, the tank buster They say, Obama gave him sheets Trump gave them Javelins I was the worst thing that ever happened to Russia, but I got along with him. But think of it, I closed down the biggest job they ever had, which was a pipeline, which was going to make them so much. Biden, in his first week, approved the pipeline, and let Russia build it... I had it turned down, they had started it, it was almost finished, but I stopped it! Who could do that, nobody else but me. Nobody! All these candidates, they're lightweights.

As an American who works in American national politics, all this shows me is that Louis Theroux doesn't even have a basic understanding of US policy. If you spend all of your time talking to members of the far-right in the US, you'll get deeply confused impressions of Trump's viability as a candidate and political perceptions of Trump. Going on television and talking about the maverick anti-interventionist nature of Trump (a volatile figure who assassinated a major Iranian leader and has openly called for bombing; whose use of drones was extensive) is just irresponsible.

  • @petraliverani1247

exactly, the fact Trump did not start any new war is really not any evidence of him being anti-intervensionist. He did not pull out of Afganistan, he expanded the drone war, he assassinated Khasem Suleimani, he took over the oil fields east of the Euphrat river in Syria, he provided Saudi Arabia with weapons against Houtis in Yemen. He basically governed like a standard neo-con Republican president within the confides of current political paradigm. Despite his image of being the populist maverick leader he basically bowed down to the American foreign policy and military industrial blob. I actually respect Biden for having the courage to go against so much establishment pressure to withdraw from Afganistan.

As a member of the media class in good standing, it's also a pretty good bet that he's a complete sociopath who (wittingly or not) puts the prerogatives of the ruling class above those of any other group. If this were not the case, he would have already been weeded out of the mainstream, like most good journalists. He's basically confessed in an NPR interview that the "Louis" he presented on his old Weird Weekends show was a character he invented, and not the real him, which already shows a certain level of sociopathy.

I think you really do need to study the numbers at this point in order to form some sort of prediction. In particular the recent nominee race in New Hampshire and Iowa - the numbers are not there to support Trump winning the presidential race. Conversely, they actually show support is decreasing for Trump and critically public sentiment has not grown for him since 2020 - contrary to what this channel appears to report here and there. Lastly, I do find it rather interesting that the UK seem to place so much faith in polls...

TR usually manages to interview interesting and relevant commentators, but I'm not sure LT qualifies for that description. The number of Republicans who still support Trump is astonishing. We have Fox News and others to thank for that, as well as the oddly sycophantic politicians in both houses. But as Trump continues to ramble on during his rallies, I think it will gradually become obvious that even if Biden is seen by some as too old, at least his age has brought some wisdom to the game. The same can't be said for Trump. The mental decline in Trump is a clear and present danger to both America and the wider world.
