Loud/Noisy LG Top Load Washer? Clutch/Tub Bearing

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the clutch and tub bearing on LG and Kenmore top-load washing machines. The most common reason for replacing the clutch assembly is when it has worn out, preventing the tub from spinning or causing the washer to make a loud noise.

These folks are top notch!! And if you own a LG product you will know them well. I have now replaced two washer plates and now the clutch assembly in a four year old washer. DO NOT BUY LG products folks. Thanks repair clinic for being so easy to deal with and super fast delivery.

What a great video! It helped save me the cost of a new washing machine. Definitely a thumbs up. A word of caution to anyone else using an impact wrench to remove that 38mm nut... With your head inside that drum it is LOUD. Be prepared!

Two more comments, first, as was posted before it was a dime lodged between the wash plate and drum that wiped out the clutch. Second Thank you to Repair Clinic for posting this video, outside of my previously posted critique this is an excellent step by step, saved a lot of time and grief..

Great video. I've fixed lower tech machines over the years but was fearful of ever having to work on this one. It's actually a clean operation and not that expensive to replace the assembly.

Great video. Tip, before you order parts check the rotor mounting nut on the bottom of the washer, ours had worked loose, re-tightened to 88 ft lbs, and solved the problem.

Pulled the wash plate and found a lodged quarter. Maybe LG improved the clutch/motor in recent models, as mine survived and works great after removing the quarter. 5 minute fix and free! Maybe the key was my wife was nearby and had the presence of mind to stop the cycle when she heard something that sounded wrong. Although it was running for 5 or 10 minutes in this state. Thanks for the great video

Beware of the torque spec. for the nut that attaches the rotor to the shaft. The manual calls for 200 Kgf/cm or 88 Ft. Lbs. 88 Ft. Lbs. is a lot of torque for that little shaft. Knowing a little bit about metric, the equivalent imperial torque seemed way high. Goin to an on-line conversion program, he imperial equivalent is 14.5 Ft. Lbs. which is much more reasonable. Good idea to use some Lock Tight.

i have a lg wt5070cw top load washer was getting a le code then it went away when it was on spin cycle it started making a horrible racket shut it off. now when i spin by hand the wash plate or the tub it makes a clicking noise . watched a video and decided to pull the wash plate out. i removed the plastic center cap then removed the bolt and my wash plate will not come out.saw where someone recomended pouring dish liquid or softener in bolt hole to losen deposits that may have it stuck.still to no avail will not come out.even tried tapping on the bolt with a hammer. i then took a longer bolt same threading got a couple of hooks to get underneath the wash plate so i could pull up at the same time then hit the center bolt with a air hammer with over 150 psi still will not break loose from the shaft. im begining to think im going to have to destroy the wash plate to get it out.please any feedback would be most appreciative sorry for the bad grammar my clothes are getting dirty

...by the way, this was a good reminder to check pockets before washing clothes :-). The quarter that was lodged in between the wash plate and the inner drum was the likely culprit in ruining the clutch and making this repair necessary. Plus... it ruined the quarter...

My Model number is LG WT5070CW and I am unable to remove the wash or Pulsator plate. I have tried removing the 10mm bolt and running several cycles to work itself loose. Also, I poured boiling water into the area and tried soaking the shaft with penetrating oil. I tried using the claw end of a hammer to lift up the assembly by securing it under the metal lip/ring. Not sure what else I can do at this point. Any suggestion before I return the Clutch/Tub Bearing?

If you can do this repair your self you will save a good chunk of change. I paid $130 for the part I got it the next day and $15 for the 38 millimeter socket. the appliance repair place was going to charge 150.00 for the part and $80 for a service call and $80 an hour after that for a total of 2 hours so i saved about 250.00 doing it my self

I have a LG True Balance and it will spin for a while, then stop and make noises, then spin again until wash is completed. This will happen a few times. Is this what needs to be replaced to fix the problem? Thank you
