    @marianne mccrank it depends. althouh that depends of how bad the bullying is. because sadly there is a sad chance it is indeed that's the possibility of said bullying. but it is not universal. sometimes people bully others because they are dicks. or sometimes because "that's how they treat each other and assume other kids can handle it but don't realize they are stepping out of the line an consider the bullied kid a weak whiner". there are different possibilites in the spectrum

    I don't think I've ever actually heard of bullies are ever people that like you. It's always come off badly to me when they do it in shows. But I can say that "antagonism" can suggest endearment. Relationships that involve a lot of back and forths, being aloof, teasing, perhaps even conflict in the form of, say, lecturing. These things can suggest someone cares or is interested, be a form of trying to impress or get attention, or be a sign that someone is comfortable acting casually with you, things like that. I mean, that's kinda what I've picked up over the years at least. And I think that's what these shows are kinda going for, generally, but they're doing it wrong usually.

    @@onimaxblade8988 yeah, it depends. is like tsunderes, or "jerks with hearts of gold", or "lovable bullies" (especific example, Bufford from Phineas and Ferb, at least post season 2 where his relationship with baljeet sometimes borders on an elder borhter sometimes hitting a little brother not out of malice, but due to "rough play"; OR Flash Thomson in the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon especially once character development starts kicking in and by the time season 2 ended he was arguably a kinda distant "friend/acquantaince" of peter). writing those types of characters can give BIG payoffs, BUT there is a fine line to write them. you have to write them sympathethic enough so (in case of a bully character) you kinda get why they bully someone, but character development kicking in so he/she want to change his/her ways. Another example of a "bully character" whose characterization fails, even though you get it (like kinda the girl mr. enter said in his video whose name i forgot), would be Bakugo from My Hero Academia. wehenever you try to write a bully, you have to a least show early on hints of the bully being likable. even in malcolm in the middle, even at its worst they tried to make reese likable (at least either as the butt of the joke and him getting comeuppance or as a chew toy of the series). it is always difficult to write a good "likable bully" or "jerk with heart of gold" or "tsundere" without eiher making the character "too jerk" or "not jerk enough"

  • @Lynn17
    @Lynn174 жыл бұрын

    I've said it once and will say it again, "they're mean to you because they like you" only works if you do it like Hey Arnold did with Helga. You don't even have to give the bully a dramatic backstory, just actually SHOW that deep down they do like and care for their target and just lack the social skills or confidence to act like it. And having them try to move past that is also good. Roger in Doug is also a decent example, only without the romantic angle: he's a jerk to Doug, but later episodes show he actually likes and trusts him. Or Angelica, who picks on the babies out of jealousy because they get all the attention and she thinks she's too big for their games. (That said, Girl Trouble was a legitimately bad episode of HA because the show is BETTER than the tired old trope of Selective Enforcement, and it's never been afraid to let Helga face consequences for her behavior.)

    Yeah, I hated the whole, "if a girl bullies you they like you", message. Mainly because, I was bullied to Hell and back in elementary school. Most of my bullies were guys, but a few were girls. I was bullied because I was a fat kid who talked a lot, told bad puns, and was even a little weird. Now that I'm older, I've grown up from that. I've thinned up, and I let others talk. I still love telling jokes and being strange though, since that's just me. But every girl I was ever bullied by did NOT like me. Hell, one of them had a boyfriend, who was legitimately nice to me, and got her to stop picking on me. One girl kicked me in the nuts because I thought she liked me! So, if any show creator ever sees this comment, remember this!

  • @dragonlover439

    Yeah. This is why I never liked the tsundere archetype. There’s a fine line between being a little rough around the edges because you want to hide that you have a crush and outright bullying them. I think in laid back situations it could work, like say a group of friends where two characters will pick on each other or something. But nothing that goes to the extent of actually hurting each other’s feelings. And when you take into account a lot of “cute” tsunderes outright beat up their love interests, yeah, that’s really bad.

  • @bryanegelhoffsanimationtec257

    @bryanegelhoffsanimationtec257

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@dragonlover439 yeah. Anime is able to get away with this trope most of the time, because they go so over the top with it for comedic purposes. Like in Shimoneta, the characteter Anna frequently threatens the main character and his friends becuase she LITERALLY doesn't know any better. Literally, she was never taught anything about relationships, sex, how to deal with her emotions, and the way she threatens people with stuff like knives, vacuum cleaners, vegetables and tongs are pretty much only for comedic purposes, not really for the story. But most western cartoons will make the trope too realistic to actual bullying, rather than full on crazy or laid back jabs at each other.

    My least favorite episode of them all has to be "No Such Luck." Every character acts like an idiot - including Lisa, y'know, the super-smart and logical one who doesn't believe in superstitions (she even states in the episode, but is immediately convinced that bad luck exists by one of Lincoln's more obvious and cruddy lies) - and the episode ends in an injustice. The character that was unjustly tortured all episode doesn't receive reconciliation and is instead mistreated further when his family openly and without remorse admits that they sold all of his furniture and are now forcing him to live the rest of his life in a squirrel costume out of superstition. This episode makes me FUME. The episode flat out implies that the family was willing to ABANDON Lincoln because they thought he was a bad luck charm. I wouldn't hate this episode if Lincoln's parents and Lisa acted as the voices of reason and tried to dispel the paranoia that the other siblings were experiencing to no avail, but instead they act just as gullible as the other characters and literally abandon Lincoln to live on the streets. It's like they were trying to earn my ire.

    "Loud House" is a solid cartoon for the most part, and it's even a good contender for one of my top 10 favorite Nicktoons. When the interactions between Lincoln and his sisters work, they can be really endearing. I also admire this show for being bold enough to include gay characters, like Clyde's fathers and Sam, while still making them genuine characters. Another thing I love is this show's art style, which has a great comic book aesthetic and amazing expressions. The character designs alone are absolutely adorable, especially on the kids. Of course this show has its fair share of flaws. Besides the first episodes dealing with Ronnie Anne, there's certainly been a number of bad episodes with warped messages. The humor can also get a little mean-spirited at times, mainly some of the earlier episodes like the one that introduced Ronnie Anne (off-screen) and a certain infamous episode that shall not be named. As for the April Fools episodes, I actually quite enjoy them. I like to think of them as this show's answer to the 'Treehouse of Horror' episodes of "The Simpsons," which would at least make Luan's insane behavior somewhat tolerable. Plus, I just love how insane some of these pranks can get, which enhances the show's cartoony nature.

    regarding the "they bullying you because they like you" cliche: I think part of this mentality comes from the way boys and girls are raised so differently, boys especially. They're taught in a million small ways that showing affection and sentimentality is "sissy stuff" and "girly", but being tough and violent is "cool" and "manly". So you end up with boys who genuinely like other girls and maybe want to be friends, but they don't want to be seen as "sissies", so they bully them because they have no other, healthier outlet for their emotions.

  • @Maniacman2030

    @Maniacman2030

    That sounds so very... stereotypical. Pretty sure most normal people don't teach their sons that violence is cool or manly. Raised differently, yes, but taught to be violent? No. Boys and Girls are raised differently because they behave and interact differently. That's why interactions between them at adolescence tend to clash. To clarify, behavior might shift due to social interaction with other children. They don't understand why girls behave and play as they do and vice versa. They know how to engage friendship with others of the same sex, but not each other. Actually, that's no different than adult behavior, really. Just a different context.

As such men had to be the hunters, otherwise their tribes would starve if the hunting team got pregnant. The man will always be naturally more competitive and more tough, while the women will always be more emotional and more caring because they had to be caretakers for our vulnerable infants while the men went out hunting. 3:54. I think having all the sisters have four letter names beginning with L was an intentional decision by the creators to make them easy to remember. With 13 main characters (parents included), giving vastly different names like Abigail, Skylar, Eli, Grace, Charlotte etc. to the characters would most likely disorientate the viewer on who was who in spite of their unique traits. It also helps that each character has their own unique color , which they wear on their clothes, to help them stand out.

    The top 5 Loud sisters in my opinion ranked the best #1 Leni: Who can even bring themselves hate this character? Sure, she can be slow and completely witted, but she makes up for that with her purity and compassion towards others #2 Luna: Dunno why she's considered Lincoln's guardian in the fandom, but it's very believable considering she's never hesitant to help him out. Those epic songs she sings get stuck dancing in your head, and her love for Sam gives her beating heart a rhythm she can't handle, it's adorable that she tries her best to perform awesomely for her #3 Lana: She goes great lengths to save and protect animals, and fixes everything that's broke in her sight, especially when it comes to the bond of her siblings. #4 Lucy: Most of us can feel her pain, not gaining enough attention from others, as well as family, but that never stops her from living her life in the arts and showing us how much love she could ever give, all while being unique #5 Luan: Even in the darkest of situation she can see the light and still manage to make a joke about everything. Like Lucy, she lives her life in the arts, and expresses her emotions very well through theater and puppetry, way more than she can herself. While Luan can sometimes be obnoxious, she can do so much as make anyone's day

    While I can't say that Loud House is perfect, it's MILES ahead of modern Spongebob, Alvin, modern Fairly Oddparents, and every other modern Nicktoon for sure. Actual characters, plotlines, development, and not just loud noises to entertain infants. Lisa is my favorite because she's not just a copy-paste genius kid like Dexter or Jimmy Neutron. She conducts actual scientific research to benefit everyone around her and not just herself such as when she attempted to make a way for her grandfather to live longer or choosing to stay home instead of attend a college because everyone at home needs her help with their difficult work. She also doesn't put others down for being less intelligent like Dexter and Jimmy do. Everyone starts off as a blank slate, but they all evolve into characters and it's amazing to watch. Lucy, Leni, and Lana are all great examples as well. Everyone needs to watch this show!

    The loud house, to me, holds a special place in my heart as my favorite Nicktoon. The reason being, is cause it took me back to when I used to watch Nick cartoons all the time. I first got in the show around 2017, when the second season was airing. I did see promos of it back in 2016. But I was hesitant at first. Due to the fact the premise didn't sound engaging and I thought Nick would just toss it to the side for more SpongeBob. Which made it more surprising when it got more ratings than SpongeBob and become the network's second biggest series. Even getting graphic novels, chapter books, and a upcoming movie for Netflix. And when I started to watch episodes myself, I got hooked, thanks to the very memorable characters and the fact that I started to take a liking to Lincoln. Thanks to his very likable personality and that I think him speaking to the audience was a nice touch. It's not perfect, I'll admit. I fell season 1 hasn't aged that well. Like Enter said, Ronnie Ann wasn't likable to me at all. And it took until season 2 for me to start liking her a little. There's also the sisters acting like unlikable jerks. Like how in Sleuths Or Consequences, when Lucy is about to tell her sisters she reads princess pony, Luan gleefully says that someone will become the laughing stock of the house and Lori, when she and the others think Lincoln reads princess pony, says they'll mock him for the rest of his life. Season 1 gave off this mean spirited tone that made it hard to like the sisters at times. Blaming Lincoln for stuff that was clearly their fault, yet they just used Lincoln as a scapegoat most of the time. The first half of season 2 was no better. With Brawls in the family and the infamous, no such luck. With Lincoln being locked out of his house, cause his family think he's bad luck. What made me continue to watch though, was the heart. I could tell the show had heart and talent. Which is why I like the second half of season 2 more. Cause the writers slowly became more comfortable writing for the characters and toned down the mean spirited tone, to the point it's no longer there. Season 3 and 4 show the characters in a better light. Clyde doesn't steal the spotlight so much. And the sisters are much more likable, to the point I always enjoy seeing them. With Luna and Leni being my favorite sisters of the show. The Loud house is a show I'm happy to be a fan of. And I look forward to seeing what season 4 and beyond has to offer.

    @@NicholasRSims Yeah, the moment a little kid is more mature than the oldest sister, shows the writers of Total Dramarama know how to make their main characters likable. Really, season 1 has not aged well. I understand it was the first time we were getting to know the Louds and the writers weren't so sure how to write them. But really, it amazed me how mean spirited that season could get. Same goes for the first half of season 2. With Brawls in the Family and No Such Luck really going too far and makes me think they didn't think through what they were writing. I'm just glad they finally toned that down and made the sisters more likable.

    Up front, as a comic strip artist/cartoonist, I absolutely adore this art style. It's nice to see an appreciation for something that so many keep heralding as a dead medium (yes, I work in a dead medium haha). And the premise is kind of funny to me because my grand-aunt and grand-uncle actually did have 10 kids (including a set of twins), and I've heard so many stories about having all those kids under one roof. That said, aspects of this show like how the characters all just seem to be archetypes and the fact that every time someone shares a joke from it it's a joke I've seen as far back as black-and-white sitcoms and movies (I'm pretty sure a few of these are as old as Vaudeville, where those sitcoms and movies stole them from) keeps me from being interested enough to check it out. I might eventually get to it, but I'm really in no rush. Also, yes. The "if a person harasses/picks on you, it means they like" trope needs to die. It's fine to address that some kids do that before they mature enough to express their emotions appropriately, but also address that a) it's still inappropriate and they need to learn that it is and b) you are not a bad person for wanting your personal space and for disliking people that violate it.

    The lesson that people picking on you means they like you really bothers me. A boy in my writing class yelled at me all the time and threw notebooks at me. I told a teacher about this and she said that maybe he liked me.

    I don't know how everyone likes this show??? Like watching even one episode makes me really really angry?? The only actual constructed reason I seem to have is that I seem to see the neglect and abuse that the fans say Lincoln gets in the worst episodes in ALL of the episodes?? Like I always just want to adopt Lincoln and give him a better life. Basically, I almost instinctively hate the show, and I admit it's weird, but I always get too angry on the subject to really make any true criticisms, or at least, not without screaming them at the TV.

    I think what made the Loud House a success was perhaps the plot in general. When you take Robot and Monster, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Breadwinners, Sanjay and Craig etc, the plot of those shows is basically “two idiot friends running around doing nonsense” that basically one concept of SpongeBob turned into multiple shows. But the loud house, let me tell you something, when I heard of the plot of “a boy with ten sisters, each with unique personalities”, I knew, and I mean I FUCKING KNEW that if the writers were to play their cards right and enjoy the free range of creativity they would have with a genius plot like that, this show would become a success.

    I've heard lots of good things from The Loud House, and yet when I tried to get into the very first episode... it just didn't jive with me because I've seen this done before on a smaller scale and with less... chaos for lack of a better term. It does has it's problems with from what I've seen from your review clips, and my modern tastes don't really help matters much. I'll probably give this Nicktoon a second chance like with Legend of Awesomeness, but from a different perspective the next time around.

    Ronnie-anne has changed she's no longer a bully and is starting to act nicer to Lincoln and doesn't even call him lame-O anymore I think the biggest thing the show needs to do is have Ronnie-Anne actually apologize to Lincoln for what she did to him in the past and admit she was wrong to treat him that way I myself am a RonnieColn shipper so I do want to see there relationship succeed.

    An interesting idea for a spin-off would be Loud Houses, moving the characters forward five years or something and exploring where they are five years on. Lincoln’s in high school and has a new set of priorities, Lori, Leni and Luna are at college or other post-school options (Luna travelling around in a band is a logical next step for her) with Lynn looking at an athletic scholarship or something. Lily would be old enough to actually have a personality, significantly improving on the character as an infant (as long as it’s nothing like Lily from Modern Family). With three of the kids gone, seeing how they and the rest of the family deal with the changed dynamic, as well as the changed room assignments since there’s one room and one bed freed up. Lily would be a blank slate for characterising, and the other characters would be in different enough situations to tell apart from the original show.

    I...never liked the Loud House honestly, At best the Episodes were PAINFULLY Safe for a kids Market, and at worst....Well you described it best. I really...don't get why this is popular, At all. Doesn't help that Nick overplays it. Its like MLP in a way, Super Popular cause the past couple years were full of Garbage Ugly Cartoons, But at least MLP was good and taught actually decent Morales.

    Basically, for years Nickelodeon either made terrible shows, or screwed and killed every single good Nicktoon that wasn't SpongeBob, because they wanted an immediate success, something on the same level as SpongeBob, killing shows very quickly for not doing the impossible task of giving them the same ratings as SpongeBob. Then, came The Loud House, when they finally released a show that was an instant success on the same level as SpongeBob, but then comes the third option, squeezing this success dry.
