Lotta dynamics in this scene. A proud father......a man dragged grudgingly into a job he's now starting to enjoy......then later them finding out their son is deaf

I can full on relate to Mr. Holland here. My son’s six and in the talent show at school. Getting twenty children to coordinate is a gift. Mad respect to all the teachers and educators.

While this scene where Lou Russ's parents, especially his father, exclaimed how proud they were of him, was quite cheerful and heartwarming, it all became heartbreaking later, when Lou went on to be killed in Vietnam, and his parents (and Coach Meissler) were in mourning at his funeral.

I remember the scene. It was followed up with the discovery that Cole was born 90% deaf when he was found asleep during the parade.

I think it was the firetrucks use of the horn blasting over the marching band playing this song because it was rock and roll which was against most of the town and the schools curriculum.

@@Rtkat3 yes it was. Iris saw everyone react to the sirens, but not Cole. That's how she figured it out.

This is kind of fun. I lived in St Johns where this scene was filmed back in the early 90s. When I was returning a video tape to a local video store, there were the crew trailers off the main road. So I asked what was going on. It was the crew for Mr Hollands Opus. A couple of days later is when they filmed this scene.

@@rosierennie5867 Maybe they are from another country, or they're young and their parents don't care for music. I know all these songs because my parents enjoyed them when they were kids, and they encouraged their kids to participate in music. And I had a musical education. Not everyone is so lucky. At least Frank was curious enough to ask.

This reminds me back when I was in highschool.I was in the school band too and originally wanted to play the drums but the positions were all filled I was so mad 😡 got stuck playing the stupid trumpet 🎺! My arms would get so tired of holding up the trumpet bell and my band director would yell at me to raise it up higher. One day I got so tired of his mouth I just yelled back at him told him off slammed my trumpet on the ground and walked off and said I quit! I reported his ass to the office for yelling ugly to me and they fired his ass Lol serves him right!
