This album came out about a month and a half before I had tickets to see Lou in Denver at the Paramount theater. My wife and I played it constantly. When we went to the concert, Lou played the album in its entirety. The friend that came with us asked how we knew all the lyric's as we sang along! Such a great concert. Lou was in a really good mood and spoke often between songs, making jokes and basically endearing himself with the audience. One of the greatest concerts I've ever been to.

I love the way he rushes "club 'em to death" in this version (club'm n'death). The first time I heard it, I almost pissed myself laughing. It's so nonchalant and matter-of-factly dripping with exasperated, pointed sarcasm; like when somebody responds to a stupid idea with a vastly stupider idea to belittle the speaker. (Ex. "Let's build a wall to keep out mexicans!" "I've got a better idea. Why don't we just go club 'em to death? get it over with...")

Dirty Boulevard Lyrics Pedro lives out of the Wilshire Hotel He looks out a window without glass The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet And his father beats him 'cause he's too tired to beg He's got nine brothers and sisters They're brought up on their knees It's hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the thighs Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man But that's a slim chance, he's going to the boulevard He's gonna end up on the dirty boulevard He's going out to the dirty boulevard He's going down to the dirty boulevard This room cost $2, 000 dollars a month You can believe it, man, it's true Somewhere a landlord's laughing 'til he wets his pants No one dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything They dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard "Give me your hungry, your tired, your poor, I'll piss on 'em" That's what the statue of bigotry says Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death And get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard Get 'em out on the dirty boulevard Going out to the dirty boulevard They're going down on the dirty boulevard Going out... Outside it's a bright night, there's an opera at Lincoln Center Movie stars arrive by limousine The klieg lights shoot up over the skyline of Manhattan But the lights are out on the mean streets A small kid stands by the Lincoln Tunnel He is selling plastic roses for a buck The traffic's backed up to 39th street The TV whores are calling the cops out for a suck And back at the Wilshire, Pedro sits there dreaming He's found a book on magic in a garbage can He looks at the pictures and stares up at the cracked ceiling "At the count of three, " he says, "I hope I can disappear" And fly, fly away from this dirty boulevard I want to fly from dirty boulevard I wanna fly from dirty boulevard I want to fly, fly, fly, fly from dirty boulevard I wanna fly away I wanna fly Fly, fly away I wanna fly Fly, fly away fly, fly away (Fly, fly, fly away) fly away (I wanna fly away) (Fly, fly, fly away) I wanna fly, I'm gonna fly away Source: Musixmatch

Ironic part being ol Lou made a lot of money not being a part of the poor huddled masses. So there's really no relevance between this song and Lou's life. Here's a guy who probably only knew three chords and can't sing for shit but made a name for himself in Rock and Roll. Pretty amazing. That said I like this song and video.

Pedro lives out of the Wilshire Hotel he looks out a window without glass The walls are made of cardboard, newspapers on his feet his father beats him 'cause he's too tired to beg He's got 9 brothers and sisters they're brought up on their knees it's hard to run when a coat hanger beats you on the thighs Pedro dreams of being older and killing the old man but that's a slim chance he's going to the boulevard He's going to end up, on the dirty boulevard he's going out, to the dirty boulevard He's going down, to the dirty boulevard This room cost 2,000 dollars a month you can believe it man it's true somewhere a landlord's laughing till he wets his pants No one here dreams of being a doctor or a lawyer or anything they dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard Give me your hungry, your tired your poor I'll piss on 'em that's what the Statue of Bigotry says Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard Get to end up, on the dirty boulevard going out, to the dirty boulevard He's going down, on the dirty boulevard going out Outside it's a bright night there's an opera at Lincoln Center movie stars arrive by limousine The klieg lights shoot up over the skyline of Manhattan but the lights are out on the Mean Streets A small kid stands by the Lincoln Tunnel he's selling plastic roses for a buck The traffic's backed up to 39th street the TV whores are calling the cops out for a suck And back at the Wilshire, Pedro sits there dreaming he's found a book on magic in a garbage can He looks at the pictures and stares at the cracked ceiling "At the count of 3" he says, "I hope I can disappear" And fly fly away, from this dirty boulevard I want to fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly-fly-fly-fly, from dirty boulevard I want to fly away I want to fly Fly, fly away I want to fly Fly-fly away (Fly a-) fly-fly-fly (-way, ooohhh...) Fly-fly away (I want to fly-fly away) fly away (I want to fly, wow-woh, no, fly away) If you read this, please hit like, it will bring me back to this Dirty Boulevard

I love this song, and it is truly sad... How about giving answers instead of moaning about it? Kids are going to be mistreated all over this world and so it seems to me that a change in culture might be appropriate. ... and yes, that's also easy to say! Blacks and other minorities have tried instilling pride into their culture over the decades with little positive results! When gangbangers are your heroes, that's where you derive your pride! No one said it was easy, but work hard and results will come, albeit slower than one may wish. Show that work ethic and things WILL change! Of course, there are douchebags out there that step on minorities out of meanness or straight up hatred! That doesn't mean, 'give up'! There are also those who treat men as men and are fair and do it right thing! I'm always amazed that blacks seemed to hate Condi Rice when she is one of black America's success stories!!! Or Colin Powell! Obama just spouted, "Look at us po' folk'!" while sitting in the White House and doing nothing to inspire his race to greatness! Again, it's easy to bemoan the poor in this country, it's hard to inspire!

@@jmae1953 The problem is NOT telling the truth. This is not the Official Music Video we saw on 89. The real fans expected the real official promo video, this is not. Stop tagging things wrongly. The real Sire Records Official Video was a work of Art, a black and white astonishing promo video, this is NOT

Was Lou Reed the father of Ari Boulogne? For me it looks so. Nico - the mother. Is Alain Delon right denying? Ari looked liked a mixture of Lou and Nico. Same eyes, same hair. Mothers mouth.
