What I find interesting about this talk by Lou Holtz is that anyone embarking on a challenging endeavor should be asking the same questions: 1) What sacrifices am I willing to make to achieve my goals? 2) What talents and skills do I have to acquire? 3) Whom do I have to work with to accomplish it? 4) What problems am I going to have to overcome? 5) What kind of choices am I going to make between now and achieving my goal? Really, I wish he would give this pep talk to my clients, authors who have already accomplished something challenging (writing a book) but are facing a bigger challenge (making that book the best it can be). Step 3 above is where I as an editor come in!
