Lotus Twin Cam Crank Balance | X Flow Block Skim

Спорт

Hi everyone.
Sam has finally picked up the camera and done some filming by himself. We think he’s a natural and should do some more. It’s not easy speaking to a camera, so no pressure and in his own time.
You will see Sam skim the block from a Xflow engine. There’s quite a bit of me balancing a crankshaft from a Lotus Twin Cam and Brad has sadly sold his Championship winning Porsche.
Hope you enjoy.
James.

The start of video was all quality ( from behind the stumps) that balancing machine fascinates me , even has data on Lostus crankshaft. As a amateur engine build for myself I have learnt so much. When I go to have my parts machined I can make out as if now what i am talking about ! Kit from down under

@graceenginedevelopments I build Holden inline 6 cly . that were first produced in the 1960s . They have been used in all forms of motor sport from then till today. They have cult following like a flat head ford , Mini engines, Hillman imp. Ect. The best N A motors are making up to 500 h.p. Kit from down under

As for fancy computerised machines, they're not much use if you don't understand the basics. Got to spin it up with bobweights simulating the rotating mass of the conrods. That's why the crankshaft has counterbalance weights. Using your machine and your method it would still balance if you chopped them all off evenly but it would fail during use. That's why some inline 4s use 4 counterbalance weights and the better ones use 8. Some use none at all.

Nobody uses acid for cleaning parts. You might mean "caustic".

I've known it as acid for 30 years now.. I'll find out today what it is made from..

@@graceenginedevelopments It doesn't give potential customers much confidence in your work. A hot wash uses caustic soda or washing powder or similar That's to remove oil. Acid doesn't remove oil but eats metal.

@@1magnit Good job they dont need your custom then 👍🏻 Acid bath is just a general term. Its could be an acid or alkaline 'caustic' solution. No need to be so negative and anal. Or is it that your a troll and you come on youtube to criticise everyone?

Hi I've been on to the supplier the main element is methylene chloride which is not an acid so you are correct.. he did say most people just call it that and it does have a small amount of acid in the mix.. he also said it's mainly solvent based .. all I know is I've used it for years and it's pretty good, I will stop calling it the acid bath from now on.. every day is a learning day.
