Lots O' Civil War Bullets

Ойын-сауық

Kinda long video of me finding mostly Civil War bullets. It was fun, and I though I didn't find anything AMAZING, I thought I'd share the hunt.

11:15 is definitely a decoy weight. The shank is lead so it can be wrapped around the decoys neck, with the line, for transport. Keeps the lines and weights from becoming a tangled mess in the decoy bag. Nice hunt, yea boy! You're starting to look wooly again!

As a Brit with next to no knowledge of the US Civil War I am constantly amazed how many civil war bullets there still are on land and in water. The number you find is an obvious testament to your research and skills. Do you know if anybody has ever estimated, using statistical models or the like, how many bullets were fired during the Civil War?

Also, you have to realize that, along with all the actual battles, there were countless minor skirmishes, and times when people shot first and asked questions later. In addition, an army of that size certainly loves fresh meat, so chances are hunting parties were quite common, and probably made up a good quantity of the shots he finds, it would make some level of sense with some of those flattened point blank shots that some idiot may have tried shooting a fish or something, as theres no other reason I can imagine that one would be firing off rounds at point blank.

oh no you posted a lot earlier the you were going to lol and i dont know if anyone has told you but the weight thats long with the fishing line is a duck decoy weight nice finds! that 1 flat fired 1 was cool i wish we could hear the story of what happened! never know could have been a gunfight up stream and that 1 washed down after a guy took a hit at point blank! sad but weirdly cool!!!! guess the history of the area really would tell the story i like history stories! HH....GL

You obviously research the routes armies took during the civil war and likely fording places...right? I mean, every river isnt littered with ditched bullets is it? Even though you probably research well and are searching 'prime' locations it still appears (judging by the amout of unfired bullets you alone recover)that they were very wasteful with their cartridge back then, not so hot at keeping it 'high and dry'.. Maybe, its just the huge size of the armies roaming around the country?.. if every other man has 10% spoilt during fording I guess it adds up quickly I bet when the csa were running short they took care of their ammo though.. In the british army back then, they'd have probably got the lash for letting their cartridge get wet... lol This isjust a really long-winded way of saying.,'damn, you find alot of bullets!'

Yeah, your civil war probably helped our empire building in some way.. either that or lord somebody was a major slave trader.. neither would surprise me..war seems to have been quite a profitable business for the victorian grandees! apparently they took the big armstrong breech loaders off HMS warrior so they could sell them to the confederates.. lol.. british government's always been the don when it comes to duplicity
