@@lukaarroyo9600 Well Orthanc (the black tower of Isengard) was said to be indestructible. It wasn't built by Saruman, it was built by the Numenoreans at the height of their powers. Even the Ents, as ancient and tough as they are (stronger and more durable than trolls it was said) couldn't hurt the tower no matter how they tried. So what probably would have happened is the blast would have flushed everything out of the tower, including Grima and Sarumans incinerated carcasses. Think a really big, really loud Roman candle.

0:55 he only has to raise his hand half way and all the Uruk-hai fall silent in seconds. In the books and movies you really got the sense that while Sauron's orcs followed him out of fear (mostly fear of the Nazgul at that) and hatred for mankind, the Uruk-hai were genuinely loyal to Saruman. He is their maker. Their provider. Their wise leader. And they will gladly burn the world for him.

Fun fact: The reason gunpowder comes as those little granules is because black powder has a habit of burning inconsistently. And ancient bombard crews often found that their shots would fall limply to the ground, with half the powder burning and the other half scattered around. The reaction could not propagate through the packed material fast enough. So wetting the powder and then pushing it through a sieve to make the granules ensured there were gaps for air. Then the flame could get to all of it. Giving you a nice consistent shot. Additionally it solved a dangerous safety issue - black powder sticks to everything, apparently. Your tools, your hands, your arms, your weapon. And those using it lived in constant fear of a stray match cord. But in granule form it simply doesn't have the surface area to stick to you. And spilling some in battle would see it fall harmlessly to your feet.

Daan van de Brug the average male voice is a baritone. You’ll hear it’s sound when the uruks are chanting and when Wormtounge is speaking (peter Jackson recording a cricket stadium chanting to get the sound). It’s pretty deep in harmony but Lee has a bass-baritone, even deeper, which underscores the scene so well.

That single tear of Grima's after the candle is blown out was such a fantastic touch by Jackson. The terrible sense of the sublime (in it's Romantic sense) when faced with a sea of roaring nightmares, and the shock to the system that would be. Not to mention the realization that the extermination of Rohan leaves no power vacuum for him to occupy, and whatever ill feelings he had towards Theoden and his people never considered complete annihilation... All portrayed with a look, a candle, and a tear. Brilliant.

Therefore the Easterlings, which are men both hardened by their own homeland (life's not easy in Rhun, you know?) and by a brutal drill discipline, will eventually prevail. But the fight will still be epic.

Brad Dourif is brilliant. I love how he improvised that single tear. It’s open to interpretation, but to me it seems to be a combination of awe, admiration, fear and horror. He’s overwhelmed and in shock. Grima is just thinking “Oh, GOD…!!!” when he sees the size of that army. He’s certain that he’s on the winning side and wants the power, but he underestimated the magnitude of what he helped bring about, and now he knows he’s powerless to stop it. He also knows that Eowyn will be killed too, and he will never possess her. His feelings for her look like a mixture of lust and obsession. I’m still not sure if he truly loves her. I wish Grima had more scenes and that we’d gotten a closer look at his character. Brad did an amazing job portraying him.

I love how Grima was unaware of the existence of this army, as if the uruks just marched out silently while those two were in the tower.

1:28 I never notice the tear from Gríma Wormtongue. In the end I guess he did care about his people.

Wait!!! You said my reward was going to be HER!!! Don't kill her!! Don't kill MY Eowyn. Of course he only said this in his mind, because he had to swallow his sadness and the desperation of his soul knowing he's going to be the cause of the death of the only being he had come to love. We see a single tear.

Grima’s tear, as simple as it is, is great filmmaking at it’s best. It is so brief and almost in the bakground, and may be noticed only on a rewatch. But for me, it is one if the most heartbreaking scenes in the whole trilogy. It introduces that Grima is not one-dimensional, it makes him more real. In his discussion with Saruman before they walk to the balcony, you almost get the impression that he deep inside wants Helm’s Deep to hold. Outside he realizes the power of his masters and the true magnitude of what is about to come. That Helm’s Deep will be destroyed and indeed the age of Men will be over. And he sheds a silent tear.

You know what i think... the part where he enters the balcony with trumpets singing is such a respect from the Uruk-hai.. like damn... I hope he had trumpets singing when he reached heaven's gates... RIP Ser C.Lee

"But sire this is no such force..." And yet, meanwhile, in Mordor an army of 100 thousand orcs readying. And 60 years ago, 30 thousand orcs attack Erebor. Also, meanwhile, back in present time at Erebor, there is 10s of thousands of orcs were marching to attack Erebor AGAIN! Suuuuuuure Grima(!)

Dom Swinchin Well, he is an idiot who probably just realised it then, what he was really doing. He might have believed Saruman would take over with most of the country remaining intact, and him being able to get Eowin.
