Liv Tyler had to deepen her voice to play Arwen in "The Lord of the Rings," giving the character depth and wisdom. This was a brilliant choise and suited the role perfectly!

Well the Red Book that Bilbo / Frodo wrote in is based on 'Y Mabinogion' which is a collection of Welsh Folk Lore / Tales, which is based on another book, 'The Red Book of Hergest'. If you think that's proof of Tolkien's inspiration from Wales, listen to this. In the 13th century the Welsh King Gwynedd Llywelyn had a ring made for his wife-to-be. I feel like they added more of Arwins story to show more of the dynamic of elves in middle earth but also they changed Aragorns character to make him seem like he didn't want to be king and it gave his character motivation to want to fight and become a leader. @@katea6305 not exactly true, Aragorn was not destined to be the king, otherwise his ancestors would already taken the throne. As Isildur's heir, he inherited the throne of Arnor, the sister kingdom of Gondor, while Gondor was ruled by Isildur's brother Anárion and his descendants. Aragorn had the right to offer his candidature as Elendil's heir, but could be easily rejected by the Stewards of Gondor. His role in the War of The Ring was what made the difference. Yeah, he's half dane, half american plus being set in Middle-Earth you got to speak with a british accent as Tolkien was not only english but also an Oxford professor in languages, plus his love for languages (particularly finnish and welsh) formed the tales of Middle-Earth. This meant Mortensen had to use a british accent to not feel out of place in Middle-Earth.

Her and Viggo nailed the dynamic between Arwen and Aragorn. And quite honestly, Tyler's facial range was so beautiful. Her smiling, her laughs, her sternness and elegance, her sorrow and grief, and her serious expressions when being pursued by the Nazgul/Ring Wraiths. So, not only did her voice carry well (and frankly I didn't even notice that she'd lowered her voice), but her facial expression range was amazing. She was absolutely hated on set. She demanded things that weren't part of the character. Plus she couldn't even ride a horse.

@@lindsay9838Getting your point, thou not agreeing. Apart from acting generally is having a huge element of fiction, the language the author of The Lord of the Rings created is following rules like grammar. This and the sound are not fitting the word gibberish.
The voice in the movie was perfect

she is absolutely adorable. Just one of the sweetest actresses in interviews. Always a shining light
She was the perfect choice for that character. Love the part when she chants by the river. Chills!
She's one of the most stunning human beings ever to grace the planet Earth. Such a beautiful woman.

I loved her low register. It’s oddly soothing lol😅🤦🏻
She's simply so beautiful
It was only when I watched the Welsh language version of Hinterland(Y gwyll), that I realised how much Tolkien had been inspired by Welsh when he made Elvish.

Well the Red Book that Bilbo / Frodo wrote in is based on 'Y Mabinogion' which is a collection of Welsh Folk Lore / Tales, which is based on another book, 'The Red Book of Hergest'. The majority of the entire legendarium is practically based off Welsh / Christian mythology, with bits borrowed from other cultures, like the Norse etc.

If you think that's proof of Tolkien's inspiration from Wales, listen to this. In the 13th century the Welsh King Gwynedd Llywelyn had a ring made for his wife-to-be. On the ring was inscribed: "Un fodrwy i ddangos ein cariad; Un fodrwy i'n clymu." Translated this is: "One ring to show our love; One ring to bind us."

@lj_aderyn It's true, I've just checked it out for myself! First I've ever heard of that tale, thank you for sharing it with me, definitely seems to be one of those lesser known, but clearly very obvious connections to Welsh history!

It's funny that her dad, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, was confused about arwen's voice that she had to tell him it was her all along.

@@Lentato I think a roundabout way to saying that Steven Tyler is her dad lol.
I always thought that her voice was modified in post-production to make it so unreal and elfish. Until I heard her in the recording from one of the LotR fan meetings and realized it was actually her own voice. 😯 Incredible.
She was wonderful in that role
Oh God talking about her dad she is adorable
The change from the book, to give Arwen more story, was absolutely okay. Maybe because Liv Tyler is such an adorable beauty...😍

I feel like they added more of Arwins story to show more of the dynamic of elves in middle earth but also they changed Aragorns character to make him seem like he didn't want to be king and it gave his character motivation to want to fight and become a leader. In the books Aragorn was always destined to take his place as king and had been basically had been brought up by Elrond along side his sons to do so.

If you remember, in the book Faramir asks the people of Gondor if they want Aragorn to be their King and only after their agreement, he invites Aragorn to the city and offers the throne to him
She's so beautiful
Viggo’s voice is so different in this to, whereas his actual voice tends to be the same in any other film he is in. It’s so crazy to listen to Aragorn speak and hear the huge difference!

We loved your work, Ms. Liv Tyler, and we will always cherish your role as Arwen!
Her natural voice sounds like a princess 👸
Liv was my first and only celebrity crush. I still get goosebumps everytime I rewatch LOTR and I see Arwen. Idk how the fuck Steven created such a beautiful daughter.

I don't know if her mother is beautiful or not, but I've seen the most horrendously fugly couples have the most gorgeous offspring. It's what I call a "last ditch effort, genetic cry for help to replenish the seriously depleted family gene-pool"! Where it seems that every last little bit of healthy, quality genetic material was slapped together in order to attract fresh blood. It's like there's some sort of genetic consciousness that's like "if we don't get some fresh genes in here *stat,* this family-line is permanently doomed!!" 🤔🤷

it was the right choice
She’s so beautiful
And her dad is Steven Tyler of Aerosmith in case you didn't know
She has a very seductive voice without seeming seductive. And very different from her dad
She’s just casually saying “my dad” bro her dad is freaking STEVEN TYLER like omg
It’s probably part of the whole deal, but she sounds like a fictional ancient version of Irish
Everyone I learn something about lotr’s production, my heart feels a little bit lighter. It was such a different time then, despite only being 20+ years ago. I wish movies were made this way now.
Gosh Liv Tyler is adorable
She's so lovely. I like both her voices. She truly made everything feel beautifully elvish and magical.
That's probably the best compliment she has, that her voice was so different that her dad didn't recongnize it. She is so tallented! One of my favorite actresses of all time.
Her and her dad both have a large vocal range 👏🏼👏🏼
She is so wholesome & amazing🌹🌹

Show the voice in the movie 😡
It was beautiful their love story was truly epic! I hope her dad was wrong about the end. I hope that when she died she was surrounded by her memories and grandchildren.
Both Liv and Arwen are ethereal.
Perfect casting!!!! Love her❤❤❤
She did an amazing job.
Bro when she lowers her voice and talks like that, it really does something to me.
The deeper voice really did sell it. The high pitched voice sounds too much like a giggly silly young girl which is fine i dont mean in a bad way it has a very youthful quality. But the deeper voice made her feel ancient like shes been here for thousands of years seen rivers form and dry. Seen great cities form and crumble to dust and disappear into history. Like she remembers things that there are no written records of.
Hah, though I have never heard her original voice, since I watched the movies in czech and still do, I remember falling in love immediately as a teen when I saw her emerge from the light on the horse, her divine out of this world look in the face and the shine around her head... They really chose perfect match actors for the elvish roles.
Wow her natural voice is beautiful
Love love love these movies!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
Liv’s voice is beautiful in the lower register.
Haven't seen her in a while.

She was the perfect choice.❤
When i heard she was cast as Arwen, i realized Peter Jackson understood the Tolkien elves. His results didht disappiint and her expanded role in the film made perfect sense.
Bruce Willis (Armageddon) and Hugo Weaving (LOTR trilogy) did wonderful portrayals of Steve Tyler.
That's coz her dad's used to going up into the registry where only dogs can hear him 😂
Interesting that someone so tall should have such a soft voice
While her father has a damn powerful voice😂
I don't know if they make actors like this anymore.
I have had a massive crush on her ever since Empire Records
She's the image of her dad!!
She'll make the perfect Luthien and Viggo the perfect Beren. Ironic Arwen and Aragorn are supposed to be "reincarnations" of them or said to look like them a lot.
She was so good, could have been Luthien for me❤
She is so very beautiful.
