This scene simply depicts that feeling of leaving a place which is not home, but started to feel like it. A blue afternoon, passing streets and traffic signs is all you see through the car window. Somehow, the city has some magic, is prettier than you could have realized before. You wish to stay, but you are a passenger on a car that cannot stop by for a while. For a last while. Nostalgia.

Daysi Paola Cruz Castillo that was kind of the way I felt the first time I was leaving Japan after spending a month there. I went there at the end of August and stayed till the first day of October, which turned out to be the first day after the summer heat broke, it was a cool, rainy day, and I really didn’t want to leave. Fortunately I’ve been able to go back a few times, but nothing felt like that first time leaving, not knowing if I would ever make the trip back...

Sometimes all we need is the satisfaction of knowing we shared something really special with someone that will last in memory forever, and that person knows it too. They both knew they were what they needed only at that place, only at that time. Absolutely beautiful.

Hi lista2k! I like how you define that as it answers to a happening in my own life with a lady I met in the spring of '76 while traveling in Greece. It was always a platonic relationship. We became pen pals as she lived in Nova Scotia. I still have all the letters over the years of her going to college, working on an ocean liner and falling in love with the engineer and marrying him, and raising three children. I even made my way to their home and helped peel logs for a big addition to their beautiful log cabin. I wondered why she chose such and opposite person to spend her life with. I said nothing about it and she on her own said "opposite poles attract." I still silently thought it was a mistake. The children all graduated from high school. She got a divorce and didn't tell me why. She then fell in love again with a very nice man yet several years of happiness suddenly ended when he literally dropped dead of some strange syndrome. She then fell in love again and traveled all over the western US with her husband. I felt bad as they never stopped to visit me. Her children married and one had a child etc. She suddenly stopped writing back. Two Christmases passed and no letters answered. I was very sad, and still am. I'm cleaning papers and one time thought I should mail all the letters she wrote as her life transpired as I'm, in the afternoon of my life, leaving in a few months on a great world journey that could last years and parting with my few material things. I might just part with the letters and throw them away yet not throw away something meaningful occurred even in a fragment of time. You have a good way of putting life events in their place with what you said. If I had only looked at it that way I wouldn't be feeling years later like I do now. Our letters spanned 40 years!

Never has a film moved me emotionally like this one. You laugh, get enveloped in the moment, but you have that melancholy feeling in the back of your mind that these moments won't last forever... One of the saddest parts of this movie is that both characters found perfect solace in each other's company, yet both realized that their previous commitments prevented them from seeking out their love. It's so tragic, yet beautiful.

I've been travelling a lot over the last few years and have experienced this bittersweet goodbye a few times now. Always meeting people and then having to split up and go back to regular life, most likely to never see them again. But I'm thankful I had that time with them in the first place.

While the ending was bittersweet it was also uplifting. Bob seemed completely lost until Charlotte reminded him that he still could enjoy the simplest things. This last scene is complicated but you can tell what was said just from the expression on his face before and after the whisper, and especially on hers. That is not the smile of a girl that just had her heart broken. Her face was not one of "I am never going to see him again and this was our last kiss" but of "I am in love with this man on some level and we will see where this goes." The scene is so powerful because we learn that this is not a story of what was but of what is going to be.

This movie, and this scene in particular, inspired me to maintain long distance relationship with a Taiwanese girl I fell in love with while studying together in China/Hong Kong. It's been over a year now since we've started dating, and we're finally living together in Taiwan. This movie simply rules.
