Ta Phrom Temple in Cambodia is a unique temple within the Angkor Archaeological Park that is famous for the large trees and roots that have grown over and around its ancient structures. The temple was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries by King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. It was left in its natural state of overgrowth to give visitors a sense of what the temples looked like when they were first discovered by archaeologists. The temple gained worldwide fame after being featured in the movie "Tomb Raider" starring Angelina Jolie. It is a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
