"Lost in Space" Actor Mark Goddard 1936-2023 Memorial Video

Ойын-сауық

Mark Goddard (born Charles Harvey Goddard; July 24, 1936 - October 10, 2023) was an American actor who starred in a number of television programs. He is probably best known for portraying Major Don West in the CBS series Lost in Space (1965-1968).
In 1959, after just three weeks in Hollywood, he landed a role in the CBS Four Star Television series Johnny Ringo, playing the character of Cully, the deputy to Don Durant's character of Ringo.
He also played Detective Sgt. Chris Ballard, in The Detectives, starring Robert Taylor, a hit series which ran on ABC and NBC from 1958 to 1961; Goddard was signed for a role lasting three years (64 episodes).
Goddard's next role was Major Don West on Lost in Space (1965-1968). A blossoming romance initially existed between West and Judy, the elder daughter of the Robinson family, but by the middle of the second season, West maintained an adversarial relationship with the hapless, sociopathic Dr. Zachary Smith.
In 1970, Goddard co-starred with Kent McCord and Martin Milner in an episode of Adam-12, in which he plays a friend of Pete Malloy (Milner), who is killed in the line of duty. The episode was titled "Elegy for a Pig" (so titled and announced by Jack Webb himself).
In 2009, he released an autobiographical memoir To Space and Back: A Memoir.
Mark Goddard died from pulmonary fibrosis in Hingham, Massachusetts, on October 10, 2023, at the age of 87.

As a huge fan of Lost In Space I always thought Mark got screwed over by Irwin Allen for not developing his character or giving him more screen time. Allen just took the easy route and went with the Mumy/Harris/Robot formula.

Handsomest man on TV I always thought. Always loved 'Lost in Space,' and wished there would have been a bit more of a romance between Judy and Don. By the way, I believe Mark Goddard was born in 1936, not in '38. Was sorry to hear of his passing last year in October. Rest in peace, Mark/'Major West'. Will always remember you now among the stars in the heavens. 🪐🌌✨

Great actor, aged very well & should have gotten better roles! This video also should have included photos of his family & private life, however! p.s. He should have kept his real first name, Charles or "Chuck Goddard"! That name sounds like a jet pilot or even an astronaut! R.I.P. Mark
