Lost in an Active Volcano - Tanna

The highlight of our visit to Tanna was standing right on the edge of an active volcano and witnessing first hand its awesome power.
Every few minutes pressure waves would pass through our bodies and the ground would shake followed by chunks of molten rock being hurled into the air. This was exciting and terrifying at the same time!
Mount Yasur's crater is 400m in diameter and has been in a state of constant activity since at least the 1700's when Captain James Cook noticed the glow at night from his ship which he recorded as 'natures lighthouse'. Yasur is currently at level 2 (classified as 'Major Unrest') and has been in this state since 2016. We're glad we made it to the top and got to witness some explosive moments. We hope you enjoy them too.

Wow, what an incredible experience! Standing on the edge of Mount Yasur and feeling the raw power of an active volcano must have been both exhilarating and humbling. The constant activity and the dramatic eruptions you described sound absolutely breathtaking. It's amazing to think that this natural wonder has been active since the 1700s, and to witness it in person must have been unforgettable. Thank you for sharing this awe-inspiring adventure!
