I've seen this movie years ago but I don't remember if they ever gave a real answer for the existence of the Loom. We learn here that Sloan chose to disregard it's information because he wanted to save his own life, not because he had special intel that the loom wasn't real. And Fox gave her life for Wesley but also out of faith in the Loom. So what is the true story?

The real story in my recap (Before making the recap, I watched it 5 times and read the comics to make a detail analysis) The loom was real. But one day it gave out the names of all the members of the Fraternity. Fox had the most cruel fate. You can recall her story with her father, I mentioned it in the video. Therefore, she firmly believed in the predictions of the loom and decided to fulfill its instructions in the end. Not for Wesley, for justice.
