They are trying to slow/stop another horse running at full speed without breaking the rope while keeping their horse in the box. They wrap the rope around the horn on the saddle to create resistance just like you would with fishing by using the drag to slow then stop horse. They’ve effectively “caught” the horse without the rider or either horse being hurt. It’s actually pretty amazing, I think.

Thanks for explaining. I was wondering what their method was. I'm sure they dont, but wouldnt the horse neck get burnt with the hot rope? Also how does the rope not just end? It looks to just stop the other moving animal when it reaches its end?

My horse was used for this and he has a big rope burn scar on his back legs and extremely scared of ropes now. I have worked with years with him on ropes to get away with his fear and he will always be afraid of them. When he even looks at one or gets touched by a rope he shakes and tries to run away. He has back leg and hip issues from this and it’s very sad that I see this is still going on. With they would ban that

El Vaquero es Mexicano solo que Hollywood en sus peliculas que llegaron a todas partes del mundo lo pone como si fuera gringo y eso no es cierto. Desde la vestimenta hasta la forma de arrear ganado, lazar, montar es de origen Mexicano. La silla Texana es derivada de la silla charra. Tambien el vaquero Mexicano llego a Hawaii y ensecho a los locales a ser vaqueros. Los Paniolos de hawaii son derivados de los vaqueros Mexicanos, a diferencia de los gringos, ellos si aceptan que los vaqueros Mexicanos les enseñaron lo que ellos saben. Nomas de verlos se da uno cuenta de la influencia Mexicana.

It developed in the 1500s as one of 9 methods used to work animals on open wild country and ranches, it was later shared with whites when they started showing up in the west it was also taught to Hawaiians first.

If it is the friction of the rope and the head of the saddle, the smoke only comes out if it catches the hind legs of the horse
