Los Angeles Helicopter Flyover | Protests

Like many American cities, Los Angeles has been home to protests following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. After some early rioting and looting most recent protests have been peaceful. Meanwhile, the Coronavirus continues to alter life for Angelenos…though signs of normalcy are starting to emerge. To see what LA looks like from the air I flew my helicopter on Friday, June 5th, 2020 from 6PM - 7PM along the beaches, over the freeways, and over several Black Lives Matters protests.

Human's aren't as bad as other life forms. We don't eat our babies and we help others, even to our detriment. Life is even scarier under a microscope, look at parasites for example. Predators eat their prey alive, their prey dying in agony. A lot of animals die of starvation or just from the cold or no water. If there are aliens capable of looking at us, they already understand everything because they don't necessarily have to adhere to the physics of our dimension.

Micah, I want to thank you for all the flies over L.A. and surrounding areas. My sisters and I finally got to L.A. last September, had a great time. Your videos remind me of the things that I have seen. Whilst there we stayed 2 nights on the Queen Mary, went to Hollywood, went to taping of Dr Phil, among other things. Please keep doing what you are doing. I'm a huge fan and will be watching.

Moving to Lynchburg soon for work, so it was nice to get the lay of the land and meet some locals. Unfortunately they have no helicopter training in the area, so I'll have to find an airport relatively close by to get started... Thanks for the great videos, Micah. Love your positive vibes!

Micah, really enjoyed this LA flyover. Perhaps next time you approach King Harbor you could come in a little farther south near Palos Verdes and fly up the coast of Torrance State Beach, which we called "Rat Beach" when I surfed in the 1950's. My parents lived on Hope St. on Bunker Hill (when it really was a hill) when I was born, about two blocks up from the LA Public Library. My teenage years were in the Silverlake area and my girlfriend lived off of Los Feliz, so this was a great run for me. I live less than one degree south of the equator now in Ecuador. Doing well, and the wonders of the internet allow this visit back to my roots. Thanks from EcuadorEric

Flying over the Venice canals reminded of drivers training class in high school back around 1974. Public high schools used to teach students to drive, and our instructor would tell us what routes to take. Our teacher liked to have us drive next to the canals. Excited student driver driving, teacher in the passenger seat, and 2 or 3 nervous students in the back hoping they weren't going to die that day at the hands of the current driver. ;-)

I’m not sure just how much I’m allowed to say on certain topics so I’ll leave it at that, sorry. I work in the Wildland Fire sector and things are “heating up”, literally! LOL! To turn a phrase: Summer is coming. I love what I do because even though I’m a very tiny cog in the over all apparatus I know my efforts make a difference when we get called on to do our business. I’m very fortunate that I work with elite and well seasoned people who know their business and at times almost make it look easy even under great pressure. Thanks for the flyover, this kind of virtual tourism is interesting and relaxing. I think a lot of people are feeling pretty stressed at the moment, with the covid-19, protests, growing geopolitical tensions etc. Agree that it is probably unwise to fly over large protests. Too many police and news helicopters ! People can catch the coverage on tv !

Love these flyovers, thank you, so many memories from childhood are brought back, this one from The Dell Amo Fashion Center. At age 14, I took my brothers my brothers brand new Toyota Celica 5sp, (I had never driven a car, let alone a 5spd lol) for a joyride down to a friend in Torrance, about 40mi from my house in Ontario. We went to the Del Amo Fashion Center, and cruised around. Later, the friend had to go, so nothing to do, I went back to the Center, and went into the mall. The mall was crowded, and I had to park across the street, way across the street. They had humungus parking lots, and I thought the car is safe from being found over there, and proceeded to the mall. Time to leave, no idea where or what I was going to do, but took the long walk back to the car, and was about to cross the street when I saw my dad, and brother standing behind the car! I thought, how in the heck did they find me? I quickly backtracked, and waited, and watched for a few minutes until I had the courage to face my demise. lol I don't recall getting in too much trouble, I think back, and my parents were probably glad to have me, and the car back in one piece. I was a good kid otherwise, just like adventure. lol P.S. You are providing a step back in time for me, and I thanks you so much. everywhere you fly over has memories as LA, and surrounding areas were my stomping grounds as a kid.

I just watched a really cool movie called "Laurel Canyon" about all the 1960s bands that lived there. Maybe you could do a flyover of Laurel Canyon Road and Muholland Drive? Apparently The Monkees Peter Tork's house was quite the party hangout.

Another great video. Thank you. Interesting flying over Venice canals. I noticed much more kayaks and small row boats on the shore than usual. Likely due to so many being at home from Covid-19. If I lived there I would take my kayak right out my door, especially during this time. You mentioned about feeling "not so well", throughout #Covid-19 and with all the protests, we all have moments of feeling not like ourselves, down or slightly depressed, angry, etc. It is important to feel, talk with others, express how you feel, get out for a run or walk, or in your helicopter to take a flight. But talking with people really helps. Sometimes myself I feel this way, and its ok to not feel alright. What helps is getting out, listening to music and mostly talking to someone. And most important do not listen to news if possible, especially if feeling down. After being at home and not driving my car for 2.5 months I drove to Mt. Wilson for a hike. That was an awesome stress reduction and emotional boost. Thanks for the videos during this time when most of us are stuck at home. All the best.

Hey Micah Love the channel I recently got my commercial helicopter add-on a few years back Its funny, because I rented an r22 out of Hawthorne with an instructor (star helicopters) they were Awesome. And did what you're doing now. The instructor did the radios while I flew. So much to see over Los Angeles. Never flew in an Enstrom Always wanted to. You probably get asked quite a bit But I would love to come out and fly it with you. I would pay for fuel etc.

Hey Micah.......loving your channel & the video's,I'm a Brit watching from Dublin.........Big thanks for reminding me, takes me back to 2005 when I did a flight out of Van Nuys in a B206 whilst visiting LA (am now a UK CPL(H)) routing Malibu, Santa monica/Venice beach Low level trans to the helipad at LAX (think Its closed now & had an annoyed friend in that he never got to land there in his time flying in LA) then through downtown area & Hollywood before back to VN......have it on a VHS somewhere....... had a very big grin after that as flying in the States is very much more relaxed & a sensible approach especially over cities/built up areas.....eternal single vs twin argument.......!!!would love to come back to do some more flying in the US....... Keep doing what your doing & fly safe......

Enjoyed the video as usual. For all its well known issues, I'd live in the LA area in a second if I could arrange it. There's nowhere else in the world quite like it.
