Lorries of Malta and Gozo 1994 Part 2
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Part two of the video resumes where we left off with the Atkinson Borderer artic water tanker passing Valletta's bus station. In this part we can see an immaculate AEC Mk V Mammoth Major 8 owned by 'Edible Oils', It's appearance is in marked contrast to the beaten about MM6s to be enjoyed thrashing and mauling their way out of a stone quarry. There's also a longish scene which shows a well over-weight 'Tilt Cabbed' Mandator in a bottom gear assault on the climb from Mgarr harbour... I seem to recall the load being bagged sand.
The video finishes with a fresh out of the box Scammell Routeman fuel tanker. Hope you enjoy.

I wish that my dad was still alive to see this , Years ago we ran a family haulage business and he always had a soft spot for AEC apart from the mandators it was nice to see the old mammoth majors , mercuries and marshals again. They brought back a load of memories from long ago .thank you.
Aec always seemed to be built better than anything else from British Leyland. Bombproof and up for hard work
Love AEC so much ❤️
Absolutely brilliant video, talk about a trip down memory lane, loved all those old tipper lorries, even the old AEC I think it was with no door on, seemed to be working itself into the ground, poor thing. Amazing film quality, even sounds. definite thumbs up from me,,, 5*****
More amazing stuff, those tippers in the quarry are something else-superb! Thanks for taking the trouble to upload Renownvidz :-)
Excellent video mate , thanks for posting ! Shame these manufacturers are history now ! Amazing how the old lorries carry on with some of these loads !
Its such a delight watching these rickety old antique clapped out *Arab* lorries doing the rounds driven by their Capable *Arab* drivers!
I thought the white artic was pulling over 30 tonnes. Malta must have relaxed weight limits. Great video.
Very cool video. I still see the truck at 8:40 belonging to Mahmah - I think it's an AEC 760 with an Ergo cab. I'm also the proud owner of a 1966 Leyland 680 ergo which I use for heavy duty work once in a while. I plan to keep her in full working order for at least another forty years if I can help it! :)

I’m sure you’re right as my father once bought a new Mercury “ DRE 96E” .And for all the miles she traveled I can never remember her ever letting us down
I HOPE AND PRAY THESE FINE LORRIES WILL BE PRESERVED!
and trucks are lumbering beasts. a hello from Brazil
if that ergo mandator is carring sand those must be 1 ton bags and he has at least 28 on there.............bloody good effort!
bring back those memories....old british trucks where superb in malta. now are vanishing from our streets. its a shame....
Still ammused seeing this Gozo AEC negotiating the hill with no hasle at all.
They certainly don't build them like that anymore, fantastic !!!
I spent two years in the Army there 17 miles by 9 one bloke had the cheek to say that he was a long distance lorry driver.

There are truck drivers living on Malta that ARE long distance drivers. They do the ferry to Scicily then go right up to UK, and back.
Them quarry trucks ! It's like watching poor donkeys carrying loads to heavy for themselves.
i got part one and two mixed up but i knew there was 2 tipper shunters in one of them these are my favourites worn out and still working but only just
Thanks for sharing this video Renownvidz. Plenty of AEC's hard at work - they where the best and still are - nothing sounds quite like those ladies!!
all old british trucks
Maybe just 150 hp, non turbo.
The old mandator sounds great going up that hill, 760 or 680? Both sound great when working hard, but for me it's got to be the 760!
@superhuan No its definitly not the naw scrap yard an im guessing it could be at Zebbug opposite the Toyota show room were now there`s the petrol station and there are some wrecks behind it.
Where is this ..quarry?.....never noticed that on the ./...island
Where is this quarry? Great Video
One question!!! Why do all the old vehicles seem to end up in MALTA? I recall my old Dad saying the very same thing about the old cars, as to how all the old 1934 Ford 8s (model Y) ended up there too, years after they were ancient history at home, in the UK. Does anyone know the answer?

In Malta we use our vehicles till they last. And because British trucks are made to last they will always be used. Unfortunatly EU emission laws are starting to be implimented, but for now it is fine.
Where was that bus wreck at 5.08? Is it the Naw scrapyard in Naxxar?
