Lynn married Mooney at 15, was a mom by 16. 4 kids by 22. She was 1 of 8 kids living in a 1 room cabin .She entered contests for fun & prize money. Her actual life much like Dolly Parton was more amazing than the stories. The poverty in US was severe in a way that’s hard to understand now. Dirt poor, no heat ,water from a well , sew your own clothes, walk if you’re going, if you had. Radio you were lucky, make your own entertainment. That is the world that produced the Country of old . A lot of other genres too

I was married at 17, had my first child at 18 and by 22 I should have had 5 children but 2 never lived. All I wanted was a house full of babies but I couldn’t do it and live. I got my babies by adopting and fostering, all 50 of them. They all went to private schools and I made some amazing adults. It wasn’t sad that I knew what I wanted and every single child I tried to have was planned. I did not let any child of mine marry that early because they were never as old as I was at 17. I had already raised 5 younger siblings and I started at 4 years old. My marriage? It will be our 54th anniversary on July 3rd. It isn’t unfortunate for some to have a family early.

Conway Twitty's Grandson Tre Twitty and Loretta Lynn's Granddaughter Tayla Lynn are a TRIBUTE DUET for the songs of their Grandparents...they are NOT IMPERSONATORS of their Grandparents...obviously, there are strong similarities, but, they have their own style and original music, as well as the hits Conway and Loretta had. There will never be another "The Best Friend A Song Ever Had" and "The Coal Miner's Daughter". Tre is the son of Michael Twitty, and Tayla is the daughter of Ernest Ray (Ernie) Lynn. Also, although retired from singing, Joni Lee, Conway's daughter (Tre's aunt), and co-performer of Don't Cry Joni, sometimes sells Twitty and Lynn merchandise at their shows.

Yall watch the movie based on the true events of her life. She was part of the producing staff and consulted with the actors to make sure it was told as it actually happened. She was a baddie when she was young and she was a baddie when she passed! The movie is Coal Miners Daughter. The actress Sissy Spacek played Ms Loretta and won an Oscar for the part. Tommy Lee Jones played her husband Doolittle Lynn. Lynn is the actual last name not Loretta's middle name as some have thought. She is fascinating and you are right.. DOES NOT PLAY.. Anyway, someone shouted out "Fist City". Loretta's response was "I dern near killt that girl", turned around to the band, told them "Fist City" and proceeded to sing the hell out of that song.

Loretta didn't always play the guitar because she wasn't overly good at it; however, she played it in that show because she was pregnant and back then pregnant women were not allowed to show their bellies on television. They always stood behind a high-backed chair or were sitting down or stood with their back to the camera or had something blocking them from the waist down. Loretta had the guitar to hide the fact that she was pregnant. Things sure have changed a lot since then.

One interesting note about the movie, the singing in the movie is done by Sissy Spacek. She spent days with Loretta at her home studio to "get it right." I heard an awesome story about how Sissy was downstairs in the studio practicing and Loretta's manager came in the house calling out for Loretta and saying how good she was sounding that day when it was Sissy that was singing. One of my most memorable nights was the night I met Loretta Lynn. I was in college in the late '70's in St. Louis and she was appearing at the now-defunct Keil Auditorium, a huge arena and concert hall. My friend, who the previous summer was Ms. Lynn's dresser (an intern position), during her concert tour, had an extra ticket and invited me to go with her. When we arrived, Loretta's famous purple bus was in the parking lot and we got to go on it. Conway Twitty was the opening act and did his entire set in front of the curtain, making the actual stage area part of the backstage. Next thing I know we were sitting behind the curtain playing poker with Loretta's band. After Loretta sang to I don't remember how many thousand people, keeping them all in the palm of her hand, she stood downstage center and signed everyone's autographs as they lined up and approached her. My friend and I stood at her side onstage while she talked to us. We were theater and music majors and she was giving priceless advice about the business of show buiness to us. We said goodbye and started to leave because we didn't want to infringe too much, but she grabbed my friend by the arm and said, "Where you two think you're goin'? You're not leaving me up here all by myself are ya?" I remember my friend mentioned she couldn't wait to graduate from college, and Loretta said, "You just hold tight and you'll be outa there before you know it, wishin' you was back in it." I've met a lot of celebrities in my career but that was and always will be one of my most treasured memories.

Unfortunately Loretta Lynn passed away at the age of 90 October 4th 2022 in her sleep at home. She had some of the most incredible songs that any singer has ever sung and I would encourage you just to go through many of her songs. The song Coal Miner's Daughter is about her father and some of her upbringing as a little girl if my memory serves me correctly. One of her sisters that is still living is called Crystal Gayle who was also an incredible country music singer for many years. Check out some of her songs because she has a beautiful voice too. They were using a slide guitar in this song in case you were wondering if that is what it's called. That is one of my favorite all-time Musical instruments.

I am a 64 year old subscriber to your channel (you ain't so old, my friend) and I am enjoying your dive into old school country music. I grew up with this stuff and then went on to play in New Wave and rock bands in the 80s and 90s. At the moment, I am mostly interested in BTS!!! But my late father played pedal steel at the Grand Ol Opry and backed Loretta Lynn a few times. I hated this music when I was growing up but now I see its beauty and magic. Not a fan of new country, but I absolutely revere Loretta, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and George Jones. BTW, you wanna hear old school country perfection, listen to George Jones' "The Race Is On" or "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Keep up the good work! (BTW, Loretta's husband was a total womanizer, but she loved him and they stayed together for fifty years til he died. Jack White of White Stripes produced and played on her last recording, "I Miss Being A Wife Tonight"...you should listen to that one, too!)

Loretta Lynn has passed on after years of failing health. She did music with Conway Twitty (not Johnny Cash). She sang about life and social issues at the time such as women rights and such. She was outspoken and a woman in a time when women were supposed to be quiet and stay at home. She went against the grain and did very well in a male dominated industry.

Loretta was the queen of country. There is a movie called Coal Miner's Daughter. It is a biographical film about loretta's life. Big time movie Sissy Spacek played Loretta, Tommy Lee Jones played her husband and the great Levon Helms (drummer, lead singer and played several other instruments as well as being a songwriter) from the band known as The Band played her father. She has another song with a similiar message to this one called Fist City. Oh by the way guys that instrument is a steel or peddle steel guitar.

My dad once worked for Lorretta on her ranch outside of Murphysboro Tenn. She was one cool woman. A great singer as well, most of her music was based on true events that happened during her life. Such as Fist City was about her catching her husband ( Moony ) with another women making out in a car.Moony was known as a womenizer , he got his knickname from running moonshine in Tenn.

She got a lot of her first exposure by being featured with E. T. known as Ernest Tubb with his Texas Troubadours, she did many duets and performed with Conway Twitty. I had the honor of opening for Loretta several times several times as a young girl in Chicago back in the early 90’s. This was around the time her movie about her life was first out and called Coalminers Daughter and it’s an awesome movie to boot! It’s a real story about a real woman, her life and her rise to fame. She was a best friend of the legendary Patsy Cline and if you haven’t listened to her, you really really should - amazing voice, amazing person just like Loretta. Loretta would talk to you while standing in the wings, what you saw was what you got, not a bone of pretense in her body, a lovely soul. Sadly she has passed on I believe in 2023. I cried because it was close to my heart as she is a Kentuckian and my dad was too. My dad was Cal Starr, he booked Loretta many times through the years and brought her wonderful spirit and music to many happy Chicagoans! I remember once backstage she would see my dad throw her arms up and say there’s my favorite booking agent! And they would hug, I think it was a Kentucky thing! There is much more to Loretta and all the people she touched with her music, thank you for covering her, I hope you will visit her greatest hits and some of her duets with Conway - great music - I enjoyed your presentation, thank you! Kind regards, Lori London

Lorretta wrote all of her own songs based on personal experiences, so we know what this one was about. 😅 She passed away in Oct 2022...she was 90 yrs old. Yes, she sang with Jonny Cash, and others. In case you're interested, there's an excellent movie (1980) of the story of her (hard) life called, "Coal Miner's Daughter". Sissy Specek played Loretta and did all of the singing. (who knew she could sing?) and won the Academy Award for best actress. The movie was also nominated for best picture, best cinematography, best screeplay and best production design. Lorretta was always a colourful woman in the country music world. I didn't like country music, but I enjoyed this movie very much. Thank you for your reaction.

Allot of her songs were based on her life experiences. If you want to know more about her, I recommend the bio-pic "Coal Miner's Daughter" with Sissy Spacek. Sissy won the Oscar that year for Best Actress for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn. Tommy Lee Jones play Loretta's husband.

Country people back in these days were REAL ! They did not know what PRETENTION was. They lived in the moment and called it like it was. They said whatever popped into their head! Dolly Parton has a lot of that in her still ! If you want to see one of the best movies EVER produced, watch "Coal Mine's Daughter" . It is her life story and is SO well written and acted and really shows you life back in those days in the hills and how her life was completely changed through her songwriting and singing. Amazing! Your wife will love it too. Loretta had 8 children I believe. Fun reaction to the original "gangster lady", Loretta Lynn !!!!! 😆👍🤼‍♀️💪💖

Loretta lived some in my hometown of Wabash, In. A lot of her family is still here. Her sister, Crystal Gayle(Brenda Webb) had many hit songs, graduated from high school in Wabash. Another sister, Peggy sue also had a popular song with her husband, back in the day. Their famliy originated from Butcher hollar, Van Lear Kentucky. Many in the line of the Webb family were good musicians and singers.

Her Husband was a player.. married her Loretta when she was 13 yrs old.. he was in his 20's.. this is back in the day in the Holler... Loretta made a killing off songs from her life. but she was a feisty biotch.. She was with him till the day HE died.. she didn't have to be.. she was making the money.. but she was raised to love her man and she knew Mooney loved her

Coal Miner's Daughter is biographical to Loretta. She wrote many. Another good one is Fist City. She wrote and sang about The Pill when it first came out. She was the Queen of country music. She passed last year. Her sister is Crystal Gayle. I believe that's what I grew up calling a steel guitar, but is properly called slide guitar.

There is a great bio pic titled Coal Miner's Daughter with Sissy Spacek (Carrie) as Loretta. It really shows what her early life was like as a poor kid in apalaicha. Her husband Doolie was a cheater and a drunk, but she stuck with him and did her best to keep him in line. You should check out another of her songs "Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad". Another in this vein would be Tammy Wynette with " I Don't wanna Play House" or "Stand By Your Man". My dad loved all these 60's country artists and I grew up listening to all of it.
