My favorite thing about Twisted Metal is that the games became sillier and sillier and then took a horrifying nosedive into dark and disturbing reality with Twisted Metal Black. Y'know Mr. Grimm? He went from a skeleman who collected souls as the Grim Reaper to being a Vietnam Vet who wears his friend's skull as a helmet after being forced to eat him to survive.

The games started to get sillier when David Jaffe (creator of TM and God of War) left. He dislikes most of PS1 entries that came after TM2, TM Black and TM 2012 are great though.

tbh Black scared the hell out of me when I first played it. I was used to Sweet Tooth just being an escaped mental patient and not a seemingly immortal serial killer. I'd like to point out I played Black when I was only 5 years old. Not a good idea...

Hey, Twisted Metal Head-On was the sequel to TM2 that we truly deserved. TM3, TM4, and that kiddie version was complete garbage. The tried to make jokes and puns out of it. Maybe not a lot of people could tell which endings had some serious depth to their connected storylines. TM Black was totally badass, but unfortunately, didn't really have much to do with the original Lore at all. But was iconic enough to carry on it's elements onto TM 2012. It is what it is.

Black is insane, but enjoyable. Dark, all a mind game, and the best lores are those of Minion, Needles, Mr. Grimm (used him for a Literature project) and that's pretty much it.

Mad Max is the closest thing to a new TM game.

This didn't really feel like the Lore of Twisted Metal, it's basically just rewording the premise of the game. Yeah, there's not an immense amount of backstory behind any games of this series, especially since there's an extremely loose canon between games, but I really feel like you could have at least gone into a little more detail about the characters, maybe explain the backstories of Calypso and Sweet Tooth at least. Twisted Metal (as a series, not just a single game) is less like a series of events with each new installment telling the next part of the story, but it's more like a legend being told over and over again, with major differences between each iteration. I'd wish the script reflected this, describing the contest and contestants as being part of an endless loop, a harsh cycle of violence and cruelty just as it is in the games (TM: Black even had allusions to to a multi-verse where these events happened in different ways across different timelines). I know this is just the set-up for a single game, the first one on the series before things got complicated, but the way it's described here just makes things sound much more mundane than it should be.

There's also theories about how the colorful TM games are in Roadkill's minds and Black is in Sweet Tooth's mind (or, rather the Roadkill / Sweet Tooth parts of the single mind) and PS3 is the real world. Or something like that. With how odd the series is, the canon of them gets convoluted the more you think about it and try to connect them. With the concept of everyone dying with only one person at the end of the tournament ends up throwing any normal continuity out the window. Fairly odd when they come back and reference a previous victory of either their own or another person (Twister, Outlaw, Axel, etc) And let's not forget the subplot of Roadkill and Sweet Tooth (and in Black's case, Minion) all being the same person and how crazy that gets.

I like that you showed Outlaw's ending since he was most likely the winner of 1 considering Outlaw 2 story.

For those who are curious, the winner of the first Twisted Metal tournament was Outlaw-he wished for Calypso to end the Twisted Metal event in LA for good. Calypso obliged by just nuking LA, which gave him an excuse to move the tournament worldwide for TM2.

Considering that it's been 7 years since we last got a Twisted Metal game, i'm surprised there hasn't been an off-brand indie rema--err... spiritual successor of the game.

Mysterious Minion, my favorite character of choice in Twisted Metal 2. Great time back then.........

I remember playing this in school on the PSP. We'd gather around play this shit all day. Fun times.

It's only Marcus in one game which is an alternate timeline. In the other ones Marcus Kane is his mentally ill brother.

"The omnipotent being Calypso" except for that time a mentally challenged hillbilly accidentally won the tournament and strangled Calypso until he agreed to give him what he wanted after Calypso refused to give him a wish since he was never invited to the tournament in the first place.

Actually he does, in every game except twisted metal 4 calypso granted the wishes.

This was my favorite game when the Playstation 2 was the Playstation 4 back then.

You did part more then back story. Your forget in all of them that it's like wishmaster and does the wish in the most worst way or the fact he stole the powers to do the wishes from a demon or was it the devil.

the lore was pretty much straight foward, but was odd seeing a mix of twisted metal 2 and twisted metal black combined. The reason for this is that twisted metal black never really happened and was all in in sweet tooth's head. Overall animation was still good

I always hated how TM2 wouldn't let you play the entire campaign on any difficulty - or in multiplayer. It ruined a few friendships :/ The map secrets and other hidden goodies were awesome though.
