Thank goodness JRR and Christopher Tolkien left all this for us. It beats Game of Thrones by far and away.

So when we say “lembas bread” we’re actually saying “journey-bread bread”?

Should also note from "Children of Húrin" in chapter 6 concerning Lembas is says , "For according to the customs of the Eldalië the keeping and the giving of this food belonged to the Queen alone." And also, "In nothing did Melian show greater favour to Túrin than in this gift; for the Eldar had never before alowed man to use this waybread, and seldom did so again." This just helps show the faith and favour Galadriel had with the Fellowship, Along with the individual gifts she gave to each of them.

3:40 Well, in the Catholic tradition, the prayers of consecration are far more substantial. Catholics (myself included) hold to the the doctrine of transubstantiation. We believe that this goes beyond a mere spiritual link and that the Eucharist is the literal body and blood of Christ. He is present fully (body, blood, soul, and divinity) in the Eucharist although the Eucharist does take on the outer appearance of bread and wine. Also, Tolkien was much more frequent in his mass attendance, and I believe that he received the Eucharist daily.

What you said about lembas bread reminds me of the Manna in the Bible that God sent from heaven to sustain the Israelites when they were wandering in the desert after they where freed from slavery. It was said to be a type of light bread that tasted like waffers made with honey. Apparently they ate it for 40 years until they got to Canaan.
