Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Don't you think that it's boring, how people talk?
Making smart with their words again, well, I'm bored
Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it
Never not chasin' a million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is, full of it
Getting pumped up on the little bright things I bought
But I know they'll never own me (Yeah)
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form, showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Verse 2]
Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane
I'll see the veins of my city like they do in space
But my head's fillin' up fast with the wicked games, up in flames
How can I fuck with the fun again when I'm known?
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything's cool when we're all in line for the throne
But I know it's not forever (Yeah)
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Bridge]
It looked all right in the pictures (Yeah)
Getting caught's half of the trip though, isn't it? (Yeah)
I'll fall apart, with all my heart (Yeah)
And you can watch from your window (Yeah)
And you can watch from your window
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Outro]
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)

hunter bailey haha! YES! Instead of that God awful Diana Ross wanna be wig, and the tacky overdone disco look. She literally is running out of ideas. And I find that to be a good thing for her. When she stops putting on these fake personas, she'll just have herself to offer. Then we'll get to know the true artist she is. Everything she's done up to now has been tainted with her shock tactics, which weren't needed! She CAN sing. She CAN write good music. Speechless might be my all time favorite. I love just seeing her and a piano. Just a simple classic dress, timeless hair, and natural beauty. Let the music be the focus. I think that's why ArtPop has turned into the circus sideshow that it is. Because the music on the album isn't up to par. She can do better and she knows it. So she makes the focus of the album more about art than the music. I mean having a chick puke on her during a live show? That's NOT art. I know art is subjective, and some may disagree. The girl (whatever her name is) does represent what she does, swallowing paint and puking back up onto a canvas, as art. I think because of the fact the girl is insanely thin, and that girls have a hard enough time the days feeling good about the way their bodies look. So to call what she does art, it is offensive to me. But my problem is with Gaga feeling she needs to bring that into her show. And grind the chick on a mechanical bull, while the chick CONTINUES to puke on her. That's one step away from two girl one cup. When you have to add that to your performance to make it worth seeing, you are no longer taking the music seriously, and you are just trying to get attention any way you can, good or bad. OKAY, SORRY I WENT OFF ON A RAMPAGE AND WROTE AN ESSAY. I get that all the time on KZread comments. I know I talk a lot. I'm sorry. I'm just very opinionated and say what I feel. And if what I write is too long for you to handle, how do you ever get through a book, or even a magazine? So please don't waste your time telling me I write a lot people out there in KZread land. I already know.

It captured the darkness of that time in the story: that it's unfinished. The song kind of doesn't finish. The line 'this is the start of how it all ends' - I always wonder if she was given that.

To all of those who keep making fun of LORDE's dance moves, STOP IT. She is not some mold that society has created, and good for her! She really gets in touch with the flow of the music and the spirit of the music, that explains her movements. So please stop making fun of her dance moves, and who are you to judge??? Are you the best dancer in the world? I doubt it, and even if you were, you have no right to make fun of her or judge her for flow of dancing. All life is sacred, show all respect. ~ Tristan Silverwolf

Thank you! I love Lorde so much and I'm glad to see someone saying something about it. It's her way of performing. And haters who need to get a life watch it JUST to make fun of her. I mean, it's her life, her decision, and frankly, I don't think she gives a fuck about haters. Neither do I.

Exactly! It shows how closed minded people can be when they say "omg why is she dancing liek dat? So wierd lel". She's just getting into it. Same thing with how people give the front man from Future Islands shit, he does this almost dorky looking dance when he's performing. He's just being a good front man and letting the ebb and flow of the music take him over. That's what a performer should do, it's adds a lot of color to a performance.

[Verse] I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm And the scars that mark my body, they're silver and gold My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones It keeps my veins hot, the fire's found a home in me I move through town, I'm quiet like a fire (Quiet like fire) And my necklace is of rope, I tie it and untie it [Pre-Chorus] And now people talk to me, but nothing ever hits So people talk to me, and all the voices just burn holes [Chorus] I'm done with it (oh) This is the start of how it all ends They used to shout my name, now they whisper it I'm speeding up and this is the Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart We're at the start, the colors disappear I never watch the stars, there's so much down here So I just try to keep up with them Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart [Verse] I dream all year, but they're not the sweet kinds (sweet kinds, sweet) And the shivers move down my shoulder blades in double time And now people talk to me I'm slipping out of reach now People talk to me, but all their faces blur But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prison And I'm locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me You might also like Hide and Seek (feat. Lauren Paley) The Bass Gang Agora Hills Doja Cat My Love Mine All Mine Mitski [Chorus] I'm done with it (oh) This is the start of how it all ends They used to shout my name, now they whisper it I'm speeding up and this is the Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart We're at the start, the colors disappear I never watch the stars there's so much down here So I just try to keep up with them Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat Sparking up my heart And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat-beat-beat-beat

Agree - I think obviously the angsty teen relates to her but the truth this, that angsty teen is still present in all of us even as adults... she's raw, unapologetic, unique, vulnerable yet confident, intense, and incredibly talented. Put all that together with an ability to touch the emo adolescent in all of us and well, you have Lorde... yah yah yah ;)

There is some thing that is nothing but full of reality & sort of other things that can be explained through Lorde's own philosophy that made me to be one of those people who loves her. For me, she seemed to be so much real & always ready to put herself into something without mixing it up with other unnecessary & sugar coating things. Lorde always gives us her "obra maestra" everytime she perfoms & even there are hindrances that are throwing her, she is just keeping on showing us who she really is & what she stands for. The song is not ugly, her dance is not a crap & her performance is full of emotions, & Lorde wants us to receive the message of the song the symbols used in the video. I salute & thank you Ms. Lorde for being who you are & sharing the talent that you have.

I've always loved that line, the delivery is perfect. It has a bit of an ambiguous meaning and feel to it, too. I always saw it as fame turning into a type of "notoriety" that's associated more with having power people don't want you to have than anything truly negative. Looking back at the lyric now, the meaning actually feels more literal, like the path she's taken herself in life. She definitely has distanced herself from the media (definitely social media) and seems more content to be a whispered name than one that's shouted.

It is different to everything that exists today in the music. Does not make everything what others do or what they would do. And what would do the rest, would show images of the hunger games. Too predictable for my. What they wanted, Lorde dressed up as Katniss? Can no one understand it? And I think that they dont know to interpret the video.

The whole video is a metaphore. Lorde wearing the black suit represents Katniss rational part, the red suit represents her emotions, the black dress represents her courage and the white suit her kindness and hopes. In the first part we can see her rational part singing quietly, then, her emotions are in a empty road full of fog representing her confussion about love, until she starts her erratic dancing we can see the black suit starts dancing as well. Katniss is starting to show her emotions. Then the red suit is dancing in the middle of a circle full of lights, telling us the overexposure of her feelings by the capitol. Lorde with the black dress, first she is smiling with the people next to her "pretending to be one of then", as she walks through the party, she throws herself to the void. She can´t be one of them anymore, now Katniss is the face of the rebellion, the mockinjay. Like the song says, "they used to shout my name, now they whisper it" They are afraid of her. Her emotions now dance behind a curtain, she is containing her feelings beacuse she needs to be strong. Her rational part is messed up, she is becoming insane. Finally her kindness and hopes waits peacefully for the games to finally end. Epic video, absolutely love it. Hope Lorde makes the soundtrack for the next movie.

Here is what I love about this video. She looks like Katherine Hepburn in the first scene. Or possibly the girl from Blade Runner. The hair, the classy shirt, the slacks, classic! The gas lamp and the wallpaper, with the scrolling black and white t.v. cast all of these amazing reflections. Then the brief scene where she is at the bus stop in the white and all the panels reflect the white. All of it is very visually interesting and makes the subliminal part of your mind branch out while hearing the lyrics. Vocally and musically it is complex. She uses a derivation of Tibetan throat singing as the undertone, then interjects the melody which is rich in double meaning. When she talks about making her prison, and then you read some of the comments below, you realize that here is a 17 year old who has been thrust out into the world to be evaluated on her looks, her style, her dancing ability, and her music. You certainly understand that she has made a trade off and that the reality of fame is not as glamorous as the dream of fame. Speaking of dancing ability, she has more of a rocker vibe. It suits the mood of the song and the raw feel of her music. It's not a choreography. No one ever accused a rocker of being able to dance, and all of them have done well anyway. I think it's badass!

Lorde's eccentricity is so amazing. I love that she's different and doesn't do the same usual beat with the same usual music video with the same dumb lyrics we hear over and over again. Lorde haters can stop because they clearly can't appreciate, REAL MUSIC.

How incredibly pretentious. If someone doesn't like this music (or prefers something else) their taste in music is fake. Because your taste is always the "good taste." That's why it's _your_ taste, right? You are authentic. They are not. No one ever believes they're the wacky neighbor in someone else's sitcom... Can't you just appreciate something without having to invalidate someone else?

Krystal Lake I get what you're saying. I'm wrong for that. BUT most of the people who are saying it sucks are the ones who listen to the bullshit.

  • @KrystalLake

    @KrystalLake

    9 жыл бұрын

TheKingsHeree Ah - but therein lies the rub! Define " _bullshit_ ." That's really what I took issue with. What is bullshit to you is golden to others - and vice-versa. "One man's garbage..." and such. Although I'm not a big fan, I can see the redeeming qualities in Lorde's music. But just as many people have a deep connection to her music, people connect to that repetitive, mindless "big booty" pop that dominates the airwaves now. (I'm taking an educated guess that was what you meant by "bullshit." Right?) It has redeeming qualities, too. Just not for you. There's no need to insinuate that it's "fake" and diminish it's fans, like they're some sort of sub-human ignoramus who "can't comprehend MY amazing taste in music..." Adding labels like 'real' and 'fake' outright dismiss it, and that's not really fair. I used to be guilty of it, too. I love classic rock, and used to say that rap wasn't real music. But it speaks to a Hell of a lot of people, because it's bigger than ever. Even I am a fan of some rap now. Sure, most of it is gratuitously shallow. (I don't think it ever claimed to be otherwise.) But some folks need 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' in their life more than they need 'Citizen Kane.' [Honestly, I haven't gotten a lot of sleep. We just had a fairly big earthquake here. So I hope that makes sense.] I'm not trying to bash you at all, King - so I hope you didn't take it like that. Perhaps I'm trying to explain an epiphany that I had one day, when I realized that there are people in the world who don't like the Beatles or The Who. [Wha? How?!? That is good, real music! ;-) ] But I would absolutely rather hang out with someone who listens to Lorde than, say, Iggy Azalea. They seem more interesting to talk with. But it's all opinion. None of those artists' music are any more real than the others. Just different strokes.. Different life experiences speak to different people. Music should make you think, feel, or both. Some prefer feel instead think. [read between the lines on what that means.. ;-) ] We like what we like, _because_ we like it! ;-) That is what makes it good. Also, it may not be only the "bullshit" fans who hate Lorde. It may be the aged 30+ old fogeys who don't quite relate to it, or find a youthful naiveté in her music. I may have outed my old self here. :-) (Except I don't really hate any artist. No room or time for hate.) Sorry for the monologue. Might be time for a nap now. Yes.. fuzzy blankets and comfy pillows... Take care, King!

Why do people hate on Lorde? She's not afraid to be herself. So her dancing is not like others but it proves she's being herself. It's her style. We grow up on the "idea" of what dancing should be but in my opinion everyone can dance wether it fits the idea or not. So her dancing isn't in the "idea" but it's HER. That's why I love Lorde. She stays true to herself. We need more singers like her.
