Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Don't you think that it's boring, how people talk?
Making smart with their words again, well, I'm bored
Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it
Never not chasin' a million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is, full of it
Getting pumped up on the little bright things I bought
But I know they'll never own me (Yeah)
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form, showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Verse 2]
Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane
I'll see the veins of my city like they do in space
But my head's fillin' up fast with the wicked games, up in flames
How can I fuck with the fun again when I'm known?
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything's cool when we're all in line for the throne
But I know it's not forever (Yeah)
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Bridge]
It looked all right in the pictures (Yeah)
Getting caught's half of the trip though, isn't it? (Yeah)
I'll fall apart, with all my heart (Yeah)
And you can watch from your window (Yeah)
And you can watch from your window
[Chorus]
Baby, be the class clown, I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
[Outro]
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
And talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)
Let's go down to the tennis court and talk it up like "yeah" (Yeah)

Also, PERFECT ending scene in that movie, I'll never forget Peeta in isolation while trying to free himself after he got knocked out. One of the many perfect things these movies did was choose the perfect songs to end each movie. And this was my favorite. When the screen goes black and there’s eerie silence for 5 seconds before Lordes dry voice sets in, and gradually progresses into this song: perfection. Especially considering the dark ending that movie had.

@@Emily-im1hu Agree. The first one is straight up perfect. Catching Fire was insanely good. Mockingjay Part 1 was pretty impressive, had a shocking ending. Part 2 was kinda meh. People saying Lana would be a better choice for this song don't seem to realise Lorde wrote this song and made it from scratch, no way Lana would write something like this. I can imagine Lana doing a "good" cover of this song but the fact still remains, that this is Lorde's song and it's amazing (it's naive and stupid to say that someone should have done it instead to the CREATOR! Emma Heertjes I respect your politeness but their style is completely different. Lana's music is incredibly watered down so that her voice and lyrics are the most prominent features in the album. Lorde's music is incredibly theatrical and synthetic. Plus the themes in their songs are vastly different. LDR sings about the past and true heartbreaks while Lorde sings of the present and the near future. They're both incredibly talented but vastly different.

Jonathan Berry I agree. Taylor, and in the case of safe and sound the civil wars, did an amazing job. If it wasn't for those two songs I'd never have become a fan of Taylor. Can't really imagine what it would be like if I wasn't now haha

Honestly, I really really loveee the song! It's very dark and perfect for Mockingjay Part 1, just my opinion. Very cool music sound as always, well done Lorde.

i couldnt agree more its just perfect
Still in love with this song and one of my favorites of Lorde's - the lyrics are pure poetry and it's masterful how she crafted a song with power enough to stand well on its own and build a message that transcends the context of the movie; of course in the context of the Hunger Games it is also amazing how well she portrays a symbolism that represents the Games and Katniss. The image of Katniss as the marble princess really resonates (with me at least) with the idea of Katniss as a propaganda icon (especially in the beginning of the story) - first for the Capitol and then the Resistance - with every scar and drop of blood glorified into political currency with no real consideration for her as a person.

it’s still shocks me that lorde was 17 years old and ahead of time with her influential creativity.

I love the line 'and the scars that mark my body they're silver and gold'. great song and I love the hunger games.
I love this song. Reminds me every time of the hunger games😍😍😍
Randy is amazing. I wonder if Lorde will be more popular now that South Park did that highly journalistic expose. I have to say: I never would have listened to her if I didn't know she was secretly Randy Marsh.
Keep the good work up Randy! Ya ya ya

Literally the only thing good about this movie is this song. The Hunger Games is ridiculously over-rated but Lorde is just pure genius. Not one bad song. Killing it every time. Good work girl.

I'm a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm And the scars that mark my body, they're silver and gold My blood is a flood of rubies, precious stones It keeps my veins hot, the fires find a home in me I move through town, I'm quiet like a fire And my necklace is of opal, I tie it and untie And our people talk to me, but nothing ever hits So people talk to me, and all the voices just burn holes I'm going in (ooh) This is the start of how it all ends They used to shout my name, now they whisper it I'm speeding up and this is the Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart We're at the start, the colors disappear I never watch the stars there's so much down here So I just try to keep up with them Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart I dream all year, but they're not the same kinds And the shivers move down my shoulder blades in double time And now people talk to me I'm slipping out of reach now People talk to me, and all their faces blur But I got my fingers laced together and I made a little prison And I'm locking up everyone who ever laid a finger on me I'm going in (ooh) This is the start of how it all ends They used to shout my name, now they whisper it I'm speeding up and this is the Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart We're at the start, the colors disappear I never watch the stars there's so much down here So I just try to keep up with them Red, orange, yellow flicker beat sparking up my heart And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat Sparking up my heart And this is the red, orange, yellow flicker beat-beat-beat-beat
