You are never late to watch this trilogy. Nor are you early. You are watching precisely as you need to.

Weed is tobacco, when I was young sixty years ago many referred to it as “the old weed” and as these books were published in the 1950s da da! Very sad that today it’s misinterpreted. The river was the boundary to the elves land and had an enchantment on it, Arwen called it up rather than cast the spell. Very good reactions, you took on board so much. Extended versions for the next two please!

Don’t get me wrong. As a very long fan of middle-earth world, I can clearly see and feel you guys didn’t click to this masterpiece. “ I feel it in the water. I feel it in the earth. I can smell it in the air”

Amazing how times have changed! JRR Tolkien smoked a pipe in which he used good old tobacco and he used the shorthand of "weed" to describe it, little knowing that in 60 years or so "weed" would mean something else entirely. All the younger people reacting to these movies invariably assume the latter....by the way, I much prefer the extended editions of the movies, for me they are much more satisfying, but a few will disagree. Fun facts: the two young children in the front listening to Bilbo's stories were Director Peter Jackson's children and Jackson himself has a cameo appearance in each of the movies.

At first you get taken in by the incredibly rich and beautiful world, one like no other, alongside an epic story. Then, the more you watch the more you begin to notice just how good all the elements are. The cinematography, the settings, the soundtrack, the script, the acting, the costume designs, the lore etc etc. Then you compare it in your mind to the other great films you know and after that realise that nothing else really comes close. You will not see a better trilogy. Films are just not made like this anymore. I highly recommend watching the Extended Editions if you can, they really do the films justice and reveal so much more of the world of Middle Earth!

Enjoying watching the movie with you! You're among the very few reactors I've watched who picked up on the Morgul Blade. In the book, the tip of the blade was broken off. Later in the house of Elrond, Gandalf explained to Frodo, "They tried to pierce your heart with a Morgul-knife which remains in the wound. If they had succeeded, you would have become like they are, only weaker and under their command."

"Pipeweed" is Tobacco. The Author of the books wrote that Hobbits were known for the domestication and cultivation of Tobacco. JRRT fought during WW1 when tobacco was used by almost all soldiers.

Time gets confused between the book and Movie.. Gandalf research.of the ring in the book was 17 years.. before he came back

You’re quite right, the ring is like an addiction. Andy Serkis who plays Gollum said that he decided to play the character as acting like an addict.

Lord Elrond is very powerful. He wears one of the Three Elven Rings. The Wraiths did not want to cross the river that borders Rivendell because of Elrond's power, though they don't know that he has one of the Three.

Another bit of non-spoiler information that you might like to have is that Elves are immortal in that they don’t die of disease or old age and age very very slowly, but they can be killed, although they can recover from wounds and injuries that would be fatal to other races. Additionally, Elrond is called “The Half Elven” because he’s the product of the rare unions between Elves and Men. He was allowed to choose between the fates of either race and chose to be counted among Elves and his children are allowed the same choice.

The ring wraiths hesitate at the river because it is the border of the Elf kingdom, so to openly cross it would be an act of war. Sauron does not wish to reveal that intention yet, but the wraiths see the ring is within their grasp so they risk the confrontation.

I cant wait to watch the rest of the series with you, and I hope I get to tell you this in time: There is an extended edition of these movies that includes a shocking amount of important plot nuances that had to get cut away to make the duration limitations of their production contracts.

You’ll need the extended for the next two. Especially the second one. It contains Boromir’s backstory and so forth. (Also react to the the vocalized lyrics in the end credits. They tell stories in each movie) the second one tells more about Gollum from his perspective. There was so much work that went into this. So much so that the credits themselves are 30 minutes long because the team involved was around 3000 people consistently nonstop. Even years prior to the film coming out and post production pick up stuff.

Very good start. When Saruman lifts Gandalf to the top of the tower, he says "you have elected the way of pain." That means he's he's going to torture him to convince him to join.
