Hope you enjoy our first playthrough of the Lord of the Rings: The Card Game! We had a blast playing the game, and are super excited to dig deeper into the game!

Nice video, guys! It's always a joy to see people experiencing this great game. Here are a handful of clarifications that I noticed needed pointing out: 1. First and foremost, Glorfindel is is a male. In fact, he is arguably the most powerful elf in Middle Earth at the time of LotR (not that being male has anything to do with it). 2. Legolas' ability - progress must be added to an active location first, if there is an active location. It does not go straight to the quest. 3. Round 2, Thalin and the Dol Guldur Orcs - during the Travel Phase, you had to reveal a card due to the Location card's travel effect. At this point Thalin is no longer questing, so his ability does not trigger. Similarly, nobody is questing, so Dol Guldur Orcs' ability whiffs. 4. Shadow card action window - you were debating on healing before revealing the shadow card, and if there was an action window. There is indeed an action window between "reveal AND resolve shadow card effect", and "calculate AND deal damage." So, you could reveal the shadow, decide if you need to heal, and then deal damage. If the shadow card said to "deal X damage to defending player" or something like that, then there would not be any action window because you must reveal AND resolve the effect (you could still play a response though). 5. Protector of Lorien - there is an action window AFTER revealing Encounter cards, and BEFORE calculating quest success/failure. You can use this window to activate P of L at this time if you wanted. Same applies to defending and deciding if you need the extra defense after revealing the Shadow card. 6. Hand size - there is no limit. You can have your entire deck in your hand (some decks are designed to do this). 7. Reveal vs Add - When you got to Quest card 3, you were instructed to "ADD" the cards to the staging area. In this case, they were added directly from the deck, and not revealed, so any "When Revealed" effects do not trigger. 8. Cards in play - Cards in the staging area, active location, active quest card, and any cards engaged with you are all considered in play. So you could have used Gandalf at your first opportunity. 9. Enemy cards are NOT characters. Characters are specifically Allies or Heroes. So you would not get a resource from Horn of Gondor for destroyed enemies. 10. Optional engagement - each player can only optionally engage ONE enemy. After that, enemies start engaging players starting with the highest engagement cost enemy and the first player. 11. You are correct, you do not control condition attachments.

Wow, total whiff on Glorfindel! There's still quite a bit here for us to get right! We kind of figured we'd get a bunch of these interactions incorrect, but that's ok! We're all about learning and learning right so thanks for all those! Really appreciate you helping us out by pointing out all of these! I had sort of assumed that was the case regarding Legolas' ability, but was not 100% certain either way. Thanks again and looking forward to getting deeper into this awesome game!

@@hobbiesnhappiness Don’t get me wrong, you guys did great! And you avoided some very common early mistakes. Some people when they first start playing (myself included) mistakenly think that if the player simply chooses not to quest, then all the quest phase stuff doesn’t happen. Not so!

Great Video! I think the progress tokens should be placed on the active location first when Legolas’s response was activated. The role book says the active location has the highest priority.

A little late to this (and to learning LoTR LCG), but wanted y'all to know that I loved the production quality here! Especially showing the cards in the bottom left there -- SUPER helpful! I'm looking forward to y'alls next videos.

Appreciate it! Yeah always been a big fan of showing the cards as I think it’s super necessary. We love Team Covenant and what they’re doing, so really appreciate it! We will definitely be playing more of LOTR for sure

Nice video! The game is great! A side note Glorfindel is a male elf, and legendary warrior. He will most likely appear in the upcoming rings of power tv show.

One of the hero dwarf, I think Gimli, when he suffers damage you can take one coin for every damage. You forgot to take that

If there is an active location, any game effect or ability that places progress tokens on the current quest places progress on the active location instead, up to the value of the locations quest points.

I LOVE THIS GAME. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I love this game. This is the first card game I bought (revised core) and it got me into the hobby. Glad you guys got it to your table and I hope to see it there again! (FYI, Glorfindel is a guy lol)

If I am correct when you explored a location, any excess travel tokens can be placed on the current quest. (!) 😮 very important if that’s the case!!!

What happens when we have all the heroes committed to travel and two enemies attacking? How does combat work? I can't defend, do the heroes still incur damage?

Yup! If you don't have any allies or heroes able to defend, the heroes will take all of the damage dealt by attacking enemies.

Hello - Question if you don’t mind - If you travel to a location and you don’t resolve it that round, are you able to travel to that location next round? My gut instinct tells me yes.

Could you give an example? If you don't have an active location, then try to travel to a location and fail due to lack of willpower, or a certain resource, you are able to try and travel to that or another location in the next round.

Hello, i am new to this game. I just saw your video and it helped a lot for many questions i had. I noticed a mistake but i am not sure. In round 1 at 25:48 i think he cannot use Thalin for defence because he committed him in the begining for the quest so he is exhausted. Right?

@CelebronGr ​ @Tomáš Vrabec is correct that you can only defend with one character; however, in this instance Thalin was able to defend because when they travelled to the Old Forest Road, Thalin was able to be readied.

for the choosing the spiders part 1:10:46 , what would happen if you just chose 2 forest spiders and then Ungoliant's spawn comes out as a shadow. does that count as beating it?

Is it player 1 that is always engaged when there is a mandatory engage?

It checks Player 1’s threat level first and if it’s the same or higher it engages. If it’s lower it checks the next players threat level (each player tracks their own threat separately).

Every card openly on the table is considered "in play"
