That's why Weta Digital is one of, if not the best, VFX studio in the industry right now. They went on to do VFX work on James Cameron's Avatar and the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy after this, Caesar from the Planet of the Apes trilogy is even played by Andy Serkis.

no wonder they got the sfx oscars year after year . such a wonderful moment for cinema.

“You don’t have any friends~! Nobody likes you~!” I don’t know if I could have kept a straight face as the cameraman watching Andy deliver that line with the amount of sincerity he put into it lmao. I love how he says it not as an insult but an objective truth that he has to remind Sméagol of.

Wow, such an actor

The part where he shiveringly says "I hate you" is so well done. You really feel the exhaustion after so many years of being tormented and manipulated.

I remember watching Two Towers in theaters and being blown away by the voice actor and digital team working on Gollum. To learn only after that Andy did this type of performance, I was shocked. He is Perfect in this role! In the greatest trilogy in cinema history filled with countless superb performances, Andy was the absolute peak! One that is among the greatest of all time and unfortunately one that is underrated and overlooked by the masses.

I loved watching the LOTR movies . I always admired Andy Serkis performance as Gollum . The motion capture was phenomenal 😮

This is such an incredible job. I experienced so much ofcw emotion and life within these two minutes

Amazing actor. It's rare to see him... human in movies. 😂

I don't care whatever people say about Gollum! He's really cute and innocent to me! I would hug and love him! pour soul!

I didn’t realize when this came out just how good of an actor this guy is .

I think considering the lack of tracking on his suit entirely, and at times gollum doing things he is not doing at all, I think they used him more for scale in editing and presence for the actors then an actual mo cap like today. I mean that's always been the working title but today they literally track if your elbow flinches, I think this is more for the actors on set firstly, and secondly to make the creative process much more of a straight shot when it comes to the cut later on vs deciding what gollum would do in situation x

i think saying all this just means that one of the greatest performances in modern film flew over your head lol

Not going to lie the Lord of the rings movies are very iconic and are groundbreaking in their use of CGI effects, and it really makes me question are people willing to sit through 4 hours of a film because it's that good and the answer is definitely yes when it comes to Lord of the rings Peter Jackson had did his job very well and I have nothing but good things to say about it
