    So glad you're doing this. This & TMB are my favorite games. I have it all including the limited ed. & gen con packs and was wondering what the New core and starter decks added. The campaign sounds interesting. I'll probably chase down the Pnp. Before dropping $ for a few cards in the New core. Looking forward to the campaign play through.

    It's only because the way we are sitting to stream I sometimes have to use my left hand to reach the cards. For some strange reason I tap card left with my left hand and right with my right hand. I never knew it was a thing until I caught myself doing it during this game and corrected it. Hahaha 🤓

    Just make it so you can keep half of the cards when you choose a new starting hand. The game is already tough enough, so taking the edge off in the beginning will just make it more fun.

    Great playthrough! Really clears some rules up for me, and I love the camera where you zoom in on the cards. Very helpful. I skipped ahead to the playthrough and missed the explanation at the beginning for why you have a companion that passes to the first player and why you're able to discard cards to add to your questing strength at the beginning of the round. Are those house rules? Or did I miss something in the rules?

  • @spunx44

    The card in play is due to the campaign, if that card leaves play they auto lose. And the discarding to add 1 to questing is an action from Éowyn

    So just to clarify adding something to the stating area is not the same as revealing a card. So the when reveal effect doesn't trigger. Wording is very important in this game. So ungoliant spawn text would never be an issue cause she is not being revealed from the encounter deck she is added to the staging area. :)

    Thanks for play throughing this Rob and Merl. I've just ordered this. Question when they release future (I think you called them cycles), can you just buy the initial bigger box of the cycle, ignore the following mythos packs, until the next bigger box starting next cycle? Thanks

  • @M-E_123

    @M-E_123

    2 жыл бұрын

    You could under the old release pattern but after the 4th cycle it would leave you with an incomplete story as they started tying the 3 quests in the box into the following cycle better by leaving things on cliffhangers at the end of the third quest in each box (Khazad-Dum, Heirs of Numenor & Voice of Isengard - the first 3 boxes - can be played standalone from their following cycles much easier as their stories are more contained and have an ending - as can the Core Box quests). However under the new release pattern it's expected all quests from a cycle plus the corresponding quests from the deluxe boxes will going forward be packaged together into a single quest box with all of the player cards from the same packs in a second player card box - the same way they've started releasing Arkham LCG content - but they haven't said which boxes / cycles will be repackaged in this way yet. So you might prefer to just wait for the new repacks to release and avoid the risk of buying duplicate cards you don't need - long term both the deluxe boxes & adventure packs will be going out of print, or being repackaged into the new format. Be aware though that if you do decide to jump into the packs released under the old method you will need the corresponding deluxe box to be able to play the quests from the following cycle, so buying odd adventure packs is generally poor value for money unless you have the correct deluxe box first. Generally I think the new system sounds better value for money so if I was starting now I'd probably just wait for the repacks. But another alternative might be to look into buying the Saga boxes (2 that cover the Hobbit & 6 for the Lord of the Rings) - so far the expectation is that these will not be repackaged and will also remain in print in their current form - each box is similar to the deluxe boxes with a mix of player cards & 3 quests covering events from the books.

    Thanks for the video. I just purchased this game and I've been struggling with some of the card play but, one question I had was playing Gandalf and I wasn't sure how his abilities triggered. This playthrough verified what I was thinking. So, if I understand this correctly, when he enters play it triggers the response, then he can quest, after that can he be readied again to attack or defend depending on the situation, am I correct with this assumption?

  • @danlafferty1222

    @danlafferty1222

    Жыл бұрын

    You've probably gotten your answer by now. How much you can use Gandalf depends whether you pay to bring him into play during the Planning phase or bring him in with Sneak Attack. If you pay all 5 to bring him in, he stays for that whole round, so if you have a card you can use that could ready him after exhausting once, he could perform a second action on the same round. Otherwise, if using Sneak Attack, he only lasts for the phase you bring him in. Now, if you have a card that could ready him, he could attack two different characters or defend against one and attack against the same one or a different one in the same Combat phase. Hope that helps!

  • @M-E_123

    Attachments can be played on anyone - even other players heroes or those from a different sphere. Only things that matter are the restricted keyword, unique symbol and whether the card is restricted to only hero's, only allies, or any character, or if it requires a specific hero or keyword (hobbit only, or Aragorn only for example).

  • @RobsGamingTable

    It depends on the scenario, the situation, and if you are ready to handle it or not. You do not get to attack first no matter if they engage you optional or forced, unless you have a card that breaks that rule, like Feint.

    @@Mantala0611 yes - it gives you some control over who will be engaged by the enemies (there are rules for when enemies will engage you) - so if you can see someone is about to get attacked by a big enemy you can instead pull them onto you if you are better set up to handle the attacks. Or you can pull a big threat enemy out of the staging area before they would auto engage so that you can deal with them early and / or to help reduce the threat target for successful questing.

    EDIT- Please ignore as I am wrong here: Rule/ Timing clarification at 2 hr mark: All characters for both players are deemed to be committing to the quest simultaneously. Meaning Mel could have given Theodred’s resource to one of Rob’s heroes if she wanted.

  • @RobsGamingTable

    @RobsGamingTable

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think you are incorrect here sir. We were playing it by the way it is described in the latest FAQ v1.9 Page 11 Question #2 on FFG's site: Q: Does a player commit his characters to a quest at once, or one character at a time? When can a player trigger responses to committing his characters to a quest? A: A player commits all characters he wishes to commit to a quest at once. Responses to the characters committing (such as those on Aragorn and Theodred) can then be triggered in the order of that player’s choice. After a player has committed his characters (and triggered any responses to those characters committing), the next player has the opportunity to commit his characters to the quest.

  • @RobsGamingTable

    @RobsGamingTable

    I think the confusion comes from most people playing Theodred and Aragorn together under the same player's control. Having them controlled by 2 separate players is rare and not as synergistic.

    I would say that the problems that the game had really started to go away after a couple of cycles. I think the Heirs of Numenor+Against the Shadow cycle (3rd cycle) was the low point, even though it has some classics. At the time of the Angmar Awakened cycle (5th cycle) the game only kept getting better and better. Having it all I can safely say the game is excellent. A lot of money and time need to be invested though, if you want this fully realized excellence.
